I have some safety rituals with skydiving: always do a vocal check of all my gear before walking to the plane. Always check all handles before exit and chest and leg straps etc. These are pretty standard, but to make you feel a little less odd i'll include some weird rituals I have that are unrelated to skydiving: When i eat a banana I eat it almost all the way down then when there is like 3 bites left i take it out of the skin, turn it upside down and eat the rest from the bottom. When i ride in a train i always ride on the bottom of the carriage. Whenever i'm home and the lottery numbers are coming up i'll always say the numbers 3, 8, 7, 15, 26, 31. but i never play lotto and those numbers never come up anyway. - one day i'd kick myself if they did. I can't sleep in a room by myself with an open door unless it opens out to a balcony. I used to have more but I'm a little less weird these days. Atempting freeflying before having an A license
Lainey replied to Foursprouts's topic in Safety and Training
Here we're not allowed to learn to freefly without at least having a B licence (50 jumps) and our Star Crest Award. When you only have 30 or so jumps and all your friends are freeflyers with 1000 jumps it's hard to hold back and be patient because you can't go for jumps with them, I understand this because i'm still going through it. I only started freeflying about 10 jumps ago and i've picked it up okay so far, although it's tough to wait I think it's definately a good idea to have at least 50 flat jumps before trying anything else. I'm glad I waited even the 80 jumps that I did before learning head up and it'll probably be another 50 jumps before I even think about getting on my head... they're pretty big on safety when freeflying at my dz. You've got so much time ahead of you to do it all, why rush? -
I want cookies! We don't have Girl Scouts here I don't think. Only Girl Guides and they don't sell cookies And you shed not a single tear for the things that you didn't need 'Cause you knew you were finally free - Death Cab For Cutie

I don't jump in Victoria but I have jumped Skydive City and yes it is on the coast. Can't speak too much about the freefly scene in Melbourne but there are a fair few guys up in sydney at sydney skydivers that would be happy to freefly with you... but we do not jump over the coast (and obviously we're not in Victoria). Dingo does jump at Nagambie in VIC, I don't know him personally but I do know Adam Long, his Earth Leakage team mate and I know they are stationed down there at the moment. I'm pretty sure Nagambie do a christmas boogie, not sure of the details though, check out the APF website, it might have some info. Sydney Skydivers have a christmas boogie on too, it's usually $25 slots with rego. I have had my Hookr for a while now and have recently realised i've taken it's comfort for granted. I borrowed a friend's helmet on the weekend and the comfort was just not up to Hookr standard. Hookrs are light weight but strong, they have great padding and perfectly fit my pony tail in the back, something i've found other helmets just don't do. The internal dytter pocket is great, I don't ever have to worry about losing it in freefall! all round great helmet.

I love accents! Depends on the type of accent I think but generally speaking yeah they seem cuter with one. I guess it’s just ‘cos it’s so different to what I hear everyday. Maybe it’s also because I know the person is foreign so they would have some cool stories about their home country, whatever the reason I’m intregued by an accent, it catches my attention. p.s. i'd love to see that! I'm very fond of books by Gregory Maguire, I read Wicked about 3 years ago and have enjoyed each of his books for adults since then. Can anyone who's read the book and seen the play tell me if the play is very true to the book?

I think I'd like to have a kid one day, maybe two at the most... but that wont be for a long time yet, i'm only 21 right now and although my mother was married with two children by that age I know i'm no where near ready. I think maybe when i'm about 33 or something. I'm way too selfish to have a child right now. I can't choose a best, i have a few... I got given a trip to melbourne and a tandem for my 20th birthday from a mate... i guess it's one of the best presents because i don't think i ever would have gone skydiving if i wasn't pushed into it and it's started this wonderful journey and been of the best changes to my life so far.
