One year old jumper?!?! Wow, you seem remarkably literate and well-spoken for one so young. Were you able to sign the waiver yourself or was it done by proxy? And where on earth did you find a DZ that had a minimum age that low? Anyway, welcome to the boards and to blue skies. Even though my first jump was MANY years ago (SL also with old suplus military gear - T10, chest mounted reserve, capewells etc) I also vividly remember the "terror" I experienced. But hey, I was young, and I got over it. Keep at it DOC, have fun, and stay safe. _____________________________ "And when the prophet shall arise who appeareth as a bird then the time of the Lord draweth nigh and the flock shall rule the earth."

*** I hate these new commercialized stadium names. With the old names, we could almost always tell where the stadium was, just from the name... ---------------------------------------------------- Yeah, I'm with you definitely on that JohnRich. FedEx Field, Verizon Stadium.... Everything's got to be a stinkin' advertisement these days!!! _____________________________ "And when the prophet shall arise who appeareth as a bird then the time of the Lord draweth nigh and the flock shall rule the earth."

I believe 3000 km works out to about 1800 miles (1860 to be more exact). But hey, who's counting . I'm just yankin' your chain a bit and I'm sure you still got everyone beat though Eugina. You sound hardcore to the core. How often do you make such a trek? _____________________________ "And when the prophet shall arise who appeareth as a bird then the time of the Lord draweth nigh and the flock shall rule the earth."

Damn, it's going to be cold!!!

Also consider that if it's 20 degrees on the ground, you lose approximately 3 degrees per 1000 feet of altitude, and add to that a 100-120 mph wind chill factor and you have a fairly "brisk" environment. Ever skydive in a snowstorm? Pretty wild experience..... _____________________________ "And when the prophet shall arise who appeareth as a bird then the time of the Lord draweth nigh and the flock shall rule the earth." -

You should probably look at getting some sort of face protection like a neoprene mask that covers your nose, mouth, and chin areas. They can be obtained relatively inexpensively (mine was 8 bucks) and is reversible (black/camo). Also a full head hood with a face feature is also great to have as protection against the cold; my wife has one. Eastern Mountain Sports carries some good ones. Their web is ems.com I believe and they go for about 25-30 bucks. Or check skiing supply stores. Good luck and stay warm..... _____________________________ "And when the prophet shall arise who appeareth as a bird then the time of the Lord draweth nigh and the flock shall rule the earth." -
Yes, I met Smitty back when I went to the "83, '84, and '85 Nationals in Muskogee, OK. He was a regular there every year and always had his old car with all kinds of skydiving stickers and grafitti all over it as I recall. He would just hang out there passing the time with anyone and everyone. He was certainly admired and respected. Sorry to hear of his passing..... _____________________________ "And when the prophet shall arise who appeareth as a bird then the time of the Lord draweth nigh and the flock shall rule the earth."

Ahhh yes, brings back memories. My best friend jumped a Pegasus and swore by it. Then we both jumped a demo Bandit at the '83 or '84 Nationals in Muskogee and he then had to have one! Scared the crap out of me when I jumped it but I think he eventually sold one of his children to get one ..... _____________________________ "And when the prophet shall arise who appeareth as a bird then the time of the Lord draweth nigh and the flock shall rule the earth."

Keep in mind that while one certainly does not want to become incapacitated by stress, a certain amount of manageable anxiety and/or apprehension is generally a good thing. It helps keep us thinking and it helps keep us safe. Without it we can easily become complacent and be tempted to take risks we normally wouldn't..... _____________________________ "And when the prophet shall arise who appeareth as a bird then the time of the Lord draweth nigh and the flock shall rule the earth."

Hi Charu and welcome to the world of skydiving. I am retired USAF and was stationed in Japan in 1987-91 at Yokota. You say that you're Navy - are you at Yokosuka? I also did a 30 day TDY to Guam while I was there and it was great! White sand beaches and crystal clear turquoise water just like you see in the postcards. Best TDY of my career. Congrats on your first skydives and keep at it because it only gets better. Take care and blue skies..... _____________________________ "And when the prophet shall arise who appeareth as a bird then the time of the Lord draweth nigh and the flock shall rule the earth."
