  1. NFL superstar and hundred-millionaire Brett Favre conspired with Republican politicians to steal $6M from a welfare fund designed to help the poorest families and children in the poorest state in the US and used it to build a volleyball court at his daughter's university. I wonder if the people who harped on for years about Obama-phones will be as incensed over Favre-courts. https://www.theguardian.com/sport/2022/sep/14/brett-favre-welfare-scandal-mississippi-governor At least he had some concern over what they were doing... because of how it might make him look. According to court documents, Favre texted Nancy New on 3 August 2017: “If you were to pay me is there anyway the media can find out where it came from and how much?” Reminds of the ultimate welfare queen Elizabeth Windsor, a billionaire who received nearly a hundred million pounds a year from the government, whose private estate incurred no inheritance tax at all as it passed to the new billionaire king, and who secretly and successfully used her privileged government access to lobby to be personally exempted from various anti-money laundering company reporting requirements on the grounds that it would be embarrassing if people found out who she was in business with. But poor people on food stamps, right? They're the greedy fuckers you've got to watch out for.
  2. That’s not a turn around, Trump has always been happy to pay…. With other people’s money.
  3. He knows that Obama was a 5th year State Senator in 2001, right? He was working on welfare reform in Illinois. Imagine how good he must be to have persuaded a 3 decade veteran of the US Senate to join him in the greatest international criminal conspiracy ever? At some point you just have to support a guy like that who knows how to win.
  4. You weren’t alive in the 60s. I doubt you were alive in the 90s. What environmental regulations are you in favour of?
  5. I think maybe the one good thing Trump ever did was introduce us to the endless source of entertainment that is Mike Lindell. ”They took my phone, I run my whole business through that phone, everything is on there!” Hmm, maybe in future keep your crime phone separate from your business phone? The best people Trump has to offer and they’ve never heard of burners?

    Ukraine

The map above is just incredible, especially since most of the gains happened on Saturday alone. I want to be cautiously optimistic and think the Russians will regroup and mount a much sterner defence at some point... but supposedly Izyum was supposed to be a city they'd spent months fortifying. A place they wanted to be a stronghold against any Ukrainian counterattack but they simply ran away because they'd sent their reinforcements south to the Dnieper. The Death Of Stalin was mentioned earlier, I'm starting to think the scenes in the Kremlin now could be more reminiscent of Downfall.

    Ukraine

That's an odd choice of word.
  8. Possibly the least gracious way of admitting you have no clue what you’re talking about that I’ve seen, but effective at getting the message across.
  9. "So, that’s 0.3% of households in the UK who will get subsidized heat pumps." So obviously you see why the UK currently needing sources of natural gas is not a statement on the intrinsic benefits of gas vs renewables?
  10. Right, they're major projects which can't be as rapidly upscaled as drilling more can. What exactly is the conclusion you draw from that? Plus, they quite literally can't meet the demand for gas because of how gas is currently used. Most homes in the UK use gas fired boilers for central heating and hot water. There are plans to phase those out - first stopping them from being installed in new homes and then incentivising replacement of them but that's a years to decades long project. In the meantime you can't just throw more electricity at houses that are designed to be heated with gas and expect everyone to be happy through the winter. This is pretty basic stuff.
  11. You think the UK isn't building more windmills and solar panels? Intriguing. What led you to that conclusion?
  12. Fracking was banned by the same right wing Conservatives you just said were adults.
  13. Bans on fracking have nothing to do with global warming.
  14. As we can clearly see in the "Excuses for the FBI search" thread.
  15. I doubt anyone out of high school would think that’s cool. More evidence of how old you really are. Ditching someone as soon as the corners of their eyes start to wrinkle sounds pretty fucking far from love to me.
  16. Yeah, like how the only thing standing in the way of our prosperity is having the work ethic of mainland China.
  17. Both the final candidates were in the position of having to recognise that everything is currently shit and public services of all kinds have been spiralling into chaos and urgently need fixing…. while not acknowledging at all that 12 years of rule by their party means that they are the ones who have broken it all in the first place. At least Sunak understood that money has to come from somewhere. Truss’s plan is to pay for all the urgent government investment in energy bills, health, covid debt etc with…. tax cuts. Or at least that’s what she told the true believer party members who actually got to vote this time round. Now the contest is over we’ll find out what she actually wants to do.
  18. Do you know how calendars work?
  19. You’ll have to explain to him why that’s a problem.
  20. That's OK, because When defending their abortion law Abbott said the Texas police would be able to eliminate rape across the state. So they know how to do it, they just couldn't be bothered up until now.
  21. How unfair. He’s a conservative - which means it just so happens that all the people he supports are republicans, all the policies he supports are pushed by republicans and all the propaganda he believes is spewed by republicans. But that’s it!
  22. Ok, so we agree that you agree with a huge part of Biden's approach to the oil and gas industry. Now, can oil companies still drill?
  23. They're saying the US has democracy, which is entirely and completely 100% accurate.
  24. Her employers decided to cancel her left wing opinions? Makes sense, the right are always such snowflakes.
