  1. Dont you worry Wayne, there will be loadsa peeps there! Cya Sat..!
  2. 'Freeflying' is a form of freefalling, but unlike flying just belly to earth in the standard freefall position taught when you first learn to skydive, you can fall in every position imaginable. Years ago the natural progression of someones skydiving career led them to 'formation skydiving'. Freefly developed as an 'escape' from the rules and competitive nature of formations, and focussed on solely having fun in freefall! Although now freefly has become a competitive form of jumping aswell, with rules and a structure to it. Read through this forum to find out a bit more on what you can get up to while freeflying.....
  3. But isnt the camera work on compulseries judged on basically how well/clearly each point is presented? Not if the camera is 'artistically' showing the move, which is what is required of camera in the free rounds? Hey i dont know i wasnt there so cant really comment on the quality of the judging. I didnt say the top 3-4 teams arent enough competition, i asked. In my opinion and from my experience level they are more than enough competition and realistically not one we expect to beat. But we'll give it a go because 'all that shit' ie socialise with jumpers from elswhere, drink in the bar, jump loads in a competetive enviroment and learn shit loads from guys far better than us, sounds like a good weekend to me.?? I can see freeflying is a very personal thing for you and you dont feel the need to 'prove' your ability. Which is great. rock on. but why train so hard if its not about ones 'ability'? Dont know we all have our own reasons to get better. Y free jive dont get funding im not entirely sure, theres some criteria i know, maybe theres other reasons which you will have to ask them about. and if you can afford 3 months abroad every year dont really think you need that funding too bad eh?
  4. Apart from slots on the aircraft/registration what other costs are involved in entering the nationals? (seriously, i dont know and cud do with knowing this stuff) Not too sure about the judging issue? Would imagine some differences in opinion would arise from the free rounds, but that is to be expected surely? Cant see how the compulseries would be judged badly? The bit about the competition, ok sure competing at the space games is surely a good test of your own freefly ability, and the stuff in florida (AD challenge? not sure) is great, are you saying the top 3~4 brit teams arent enough competition? Regarding the organisation of ourselves and things considered "pushing the envelope" we are no doubt behind. But there is a pretty good freefly scene developing in the UK and it can only get better. When did you last attend the regionals/nationals???
  5. Can you elaborate on your negative feelings towards the event? Not done a nationals yet and have only heard good things so far (i.e it was great fun and everyone learnt loads, made new friends, etc...) Would be interested in hearing a different opinion.
  6. Whilst were on the subject what type of setup does everyone here do for landing their katana? height, degree turn, wingload..? (when the conditions are right of course....)
  7. Give it a go and find out what you are missing... It feels way different to tracking, kind of weightless. The best way to try the position ive found is get 90' to jump run, start tracking bringing the arms out to the side, about halfway between shoulders and waist. (Similar to the delta track) De-arch slightly and drop the kness a touch. Now look at your feet. Whalla!

    Team Training

This ones for the guys who have had some form of structured training regime in preparation for some form of competition...(in respect to freefly comp.) If you were to do it all over again, starting from the day you first met your team mates, what, where and how would you do it? Any opinons on the following (Where money is the main restraint) Individual/Team coaching? If so how much is good/enough/too much... for you pennies and to keep it fresh and not turn into a grind... How many days a month would you set aside for pure team training? Every wkend? twice a month? What Drills, moves, skills etc.. are essential to dial in first, before attempting the more technical stuff? If you could describe your training from an early stage it would be great, any tips advice much appreciated...... tHanks. BlooSkyz

  11. There is only one and he wins by far... Clinton Radloff.
  12. Yeah a 170 will be spot on. I see your in uk so try classifieds in back of skydive mag, or www.bpa.org.uk...have ad's www.dirtdive.co.uk rec.uk.skydiving, and the notice board at the dz's you jump at, even here on dz.com there is tonnes of used gear for sale.... Or you could even demo a 170 first, a few places in the uk have demo centres now.. Laters...
  13. Yeah definately more competions..!! cash prizes an everything that will bring them out the woodwork... plenty of dz's would be more than happy to host them... We need to get all the freefly cats in the uk on the same dz more than once a year so we can move things forward....were crap!! damn the yanks are throwing out 50 ways we are sooo far behind... and think we rely on the bpa far too much to organise things for us.... we need to put our heads together and organise some stuff....all in favour say i.
  14. clinton was a very missunderstood young man. he would have made a great jumper but his dreams were shattered by the unpleasant swearing folk here... fucking bastards.
  15. I think the grading system is more to do with education and self-achievement than "regulating" jumpers to what they can and cant do... It gives newer jumpers something to aim for and feel like they have earnt something, while learning some funky skills... I think the grading system could be better though... but on the other hand at present its a good middle ground for the 'anarchy rules' folk and those who cant think for themselves and need some guidance to what they shouldnt be doing, for the sake of everyone else. But none of it is mandatory..... there not making anyone do the grades. oh the repression of the bpa!!!
  16. I feel the FF grades are reasonable but should maybe be more safety orientated to start with. You can get FF1 by showing you can slide around in a sit moderately in control (i did! ) ..but need no knowledge of exit separation, exit orders, breakoff heights/direction, gear safety etc.. Maybe if there was a 'freefly coach' rating introduced and the requirements for the two FF grades increased.. the whole thing could be made more credible... As it stands i think CCIs dish out the grades..they usually werent on the dive, and the person recommending the grade is probably as mate. Tricky one.... dont want more rules, but the current ones need modifying slightly..... Dont want to waffle too much but my syllabus would be like this...... FF1 Shows good understanding of : Gear, Exit Orders, Exit separation, Working away from line of flight, breakoff separation. Show good sit exit, both facing towards and away from tail of aircraft. Fly relative to coach, both vertically and horizontally. (follow the leader style) Cartwheel 360 both ways in Sit/Stand. Front loop/back loop back into Sit. Side slides. Foot dock (touch toes) Hand dock (coaches foot/hand) Then.... FF2 All of the above and completed at least one headup 2 way with someone other than the coach. Good solo exit facing plane, exit facing ground. Good 2way gripped exit as above. Cartwheel from sit to headdown and back 360s HD Fly within docking distance of coach, and be able to fly relative both vertically and horizontally. Both one handed and two handed docks. Basic side movement/carve. Cha'think?
  17. If you had two weeks to jump in florida, which two weeks would you pick for the greatest odds of good weather......??? Heard the weather can be a bit 'tropical' from time to time. Thanks.

  19. What design characteristics give a canopy good lift at low speed, e.g. cobalt more bottom end than stilletto... Is it purely airfoil shape? In other words why do some have a better "bottom end" than others.
