haha, that would be one option but i tried AFF in the UK last year and it was taking forever because of the weather. So now i have decided that the fastest way to get my licence will be somewhere with *almost* constant good weather Mikey ------------------------------------------ Fear Is Weakness Leaving Your Body

Ive tried adding a picture to my profile but i cant get it small enough to fit. Anybody know anything i can use to reduce the size of it. Tried the usual things like cropping it right down to just being my ugly mug but is still 21kb! Help Mikey ------------------------------------------ Fear Is Weakness Leaving Your Body

Ok, I have not jumped for nearly a year now but since i have decided to do AFF again, all i can think about is jumping out of planes! Problem is, i want to jump now but my course (in Spain) isnt until the 8th of July which is like 9 weeks away. I even have a little countdown timer on my desktop and it is currently saying '61 days, 9 hours, 55 minutes and 50 seconds' until the course. LOL I do have 20 minutes at Bedford wind tunnel booked for the week before but even that is 8 weeks away. The problem is, i'm normally a very sporty and active individual but since booking the course i am finding that all i'm doing is sitting here in front of my laptop reading various threads here on DZ.com and watching skydive movies from skydivemovies.com. What am i to do? i feel it has gripped me like a disease again! lmao I thought about going to my soon to be new DZ at langar but then realised that might actually just frustrate me even more. So... Anybody got any suggestions! I think if i sit here every evening and weekend before jumping ill go crazy! Mikey Mikey ------------------------------------------ Fear Is Weakness Leaving Your Body

I was just wondering which video editor i can use to get used to editing as i have never done it before? Obviously i dont wanna be paying the price of Adobe Premiere just to learn. maybe when i get slightly competant ill consider it but just for now, is there any good software that i can use that is fairly cheap just to get used to the whole thing? Well i am certainly not hating it, and i definately do love it!

That wasnt the dropzone i did AFF. Chatteris is actually where i did a couple of static line jumps Mikey ------------------------------------------ Fear Is Weakness Leaving Your Body

I am certainly nervous on the ride up and getting in the door but i am pretty sure that once im out i'm as relaxed as a relaxed thing that is really relaxing, no nerves at all! its just that learning the manoevres doesnt seem to come that naturally to me When i was in the spin on level 6 i knew i was doing something wrong but couldnt quite figure it out. Even whilst this was happening i stayed pretty calm because of my training. I think one of the comments that the instructor made at the time was that i tend to think and analyse to much Mikey Mikey ------------------------------------------ Fear Is Weakness Leaving Your Body

err... ive seen people doing that when they are going crazy, it usually happens whilst these people are rocking forward and back! lol Exactly which DZ do you jump? Mikey ------------------------------------------ Fear Is Weakness Leaving Your Body

Ok, last year i started aff in the uk at an undisclosed DZ. The 1st 3 levels seemed to go fine but then everything went downhill from there. The fact that i didnt get on iwth my instructor didnt really help. I have been thinking about retrying but going to spain instead becuase of the weather. Today though i had a look at my log book form previous aff and after reading how poorly i performed am thinking that maybe i would be just wasting my money even trying. I was actually thinking of doing 30 mins tunnel time ands then aff but like i said, i'm worried that i'll be wasting my money. Ill write the notes for each jump that i completed -------------- Level 1 Good set up in door & hotel check, legs kicking on exit, HASP, straighten legs, 3xD/P's good, 2nd HASP, straighten legs, good alti & pull & canopy control Level 2 next -------------- Level 3 Good set up in door & hotel check, dearched on exit, HASP arch and straighten legs, 1xD/P good, good forward movement but turning to right, 2ndry off, good in freetime, 1x st legs in freetime, good alti, slightly late on alti & pull but good pull & canopy control Level 3 next -------------- Level 3 Good set up in door & exit, HASP st legs, 1xD/P good, st legs before release, good hover control whilst released, good alti, pull and canopy control Level 4 next -------------- Level 4 Good set up and hotel check and exit, HAP st legs, released. Tried for left turn but went nto right spin due to pushing down. instructor stopped, 2nd try into right spin, legs up bum and arms forward causing stalling of the body, no response to st legs, responded to alti, good pull and canopy control Repeat Please -------------- Level 4 (repeat) Good set up and hotel check. HAP st legs & arms back, released. 90 degree left turn, slight inv right turn, stopped, st legs, slight right turn then inst stopped, alti signal, good alti, pull and canopy control Level 5 next -------------- Level 5 God set up hotel check & exit, HAP, st legs, 90 degree left turn very good, iniial right turn ok then into right spin, inst stopped, released. stopped right spin again, into spin, inst stopped, released into right spin, inst stopped. no response to st legs signal, good alti, pull and canopy control Repeat please -------------- Level 5 (repeat) Good set up hotel check, poor exit and kicking, responded to arch and st legs, released, 90 degree left turn into spin, inst stopped, released, 360 degree right turn good but legs up bum, responded to st legs, alti signal given, good pull and canopy control Repeat Please -------------- Level 5 (2nd repeat) Good set up hotel check and excellent exit, good 360 right turn, overshot but ok. tried for left turnagain but back sliding, good alti, pull and canopy control Level 6 next -------------- Level 6 Weak set up, poor pulse and weak exit, unstable and spinning, inst stopped, st legs and relax, fell out of back loop, unstable and spinnng, nst stopped, relax, good track, good alti, pul and canopy control Repeat please And thats where it finished. My instructor told me off for going unstable , told me i shouldnt be doing that on level 6 and totally knocked my confidence! What do others think? have you seen worse than this and these people to go on and make good skydivers or am i just not good enough? Obviously instructors comments are what i'm really looking for but any comments will be greatly received Mikey H Mikey ------------------------------------------ Fear Is Weakness Leaving Your Body

I just wanted to bring this thread back into the limelight again as it has given me many answers to questions that i have pondered over for a long time, and i wanted others to see how fear seems to affect most skydivers. i had an underlying fear after gettin gto level 6 on my AFF and then quitting due to fear (and lack of trust in my AFF instructor but thats another matter). Anyway, i hope people find this usefull again (if yo havent already read it) Happy Jumping Mikey ------------------------------------------ Fear Is Weakness Leaving Your Body

If you go to the skyventure website www.skyventure.co.uk you can get advanced tickets. Fifty pounds for one hour. This guarantees at least 2 flights in this time plus a bonus flight. Free gear hire and training. Also, video or photo. I didnt expect it to be that cheap but then it is a special offer. I'm getting my cheque in now!! I have to say, the theory behind this one seems good. I'm not sure what the lifeguards will make of someone in the deep end of the pool though - face down, arms and legs wide, sinking to the bottom! I think they'd be jumping in to save me, thinking that i was drowning!! I can just see their faces too when i tell them that i'm actually fine and just practicing my skydiving freefall technique. The words men, white coats and mental asylum spring to mind! Mikey Mikey ------------------------------------------ Fear Is Weakness Leaving Your Body

Cheers for all of the advice. I was thinking for a while that it was just me. I'll start practicing again now! hehe Less than 3 weeks now and i can't stop thinking about it. I remember how good it felt before when i was doing static line, and that was without any freefall. I think it's gonna blow my mind. (or at least i hope). haha Thanks again Mikey Mikey ------------------------------------------ Fear Is Weakness Leaving Your Body

Hi all, i did my RAPS course in late 2003 and managed to do 5 jumps. Unfortunately, on the fifth jump i landed very badly a tore a ligament in my ankle. I haven't been back since as it put me off (for a while anyway) I'm now booked in for AFF level 1 in 3 weeks and i literally cannot wait. Im so excited that i'm reading all the info i can possibly find on the net (especially this website). I was reading some AFF course material that describes in detail the jump procedures for each level and decided to practice them (on my bedroom floor ). The theory being that it will help when it comes to the actual jump. Now, this may sound like a really stupid question BUT, when in freefall, does it hurt your back and shoulders? My reason for asking is that when i practice them on my floor, my back and shoulders hurt like hell (kind of a muscular pain). The biggest problems seem to be the dummy RP's and holding my neck really far back. Is this purely because i'm practicing on my floor, obviously as there is a solid mass beneath me, or does it also hurt your back when doing the real thing? I know this probably sounds really stupid, especially lying on my floor pretending to be in freefall! LOL BUT, its a problem none the less that is really bugging me. Any help on this topic will be much appreciated. Cheers Mikey Mikey ------------------------------------------ Fear Is Weakness Leaving Your Body

Did my first (and 2nd) jump about 2 months ago. Weather has been bad here though in the last few weeks (and DZ is closed not until 12th Jan) that i haven't been able to do anymore. (in england by the way hence the crap weateher!). Every time i see a little caravan fly over and hear the engines, wherever i am, i feel like i'm back at the dz. Only 2 jumps, not even on freefall yet and its turned me into a skydive craving lunatic. Just over a week to gothough and the dz is open. mmmmmmmmmmm Hope you guys in the states have good weather. Oh, ive found something to do in my time waiting for jumps, ive bought a traction kite. Feels just like your under canopy!! hehehe Take care peeps Mikey Mikey ------------------------------------------ Fear Is Weakness Leaving Your Body

Good to know everybody is so welcoming here. Hope everyone is having fun at their dz's this weekend (unless your in the uk) LOL Mikey Mikey ------------------------------------------ Fear Is Weakness Leaving Your Body

Hi all, im pretty new to the world of skydiving! did 2 jumps about 4 weeks ago and havent been able to do anymore cos of the weather. such an amazing feeling though. never done anything like that in my life. getting very restless now though as every weekend seems to be awfull . My local dz (netheravon) also closes for 6 weeks in a couple of weeks so i think my hopes of jumping again this year are pretty slim! cant wait for for some good weather next year, im gonna live and breathe the sport!!
