I can actually see their point... you are an investment to them... they spend their money and resources training you with the intent that you compete within their program. They want to maximize their investment. Should you be unable to participate in their program for whatever reason, including skydiving injury, their money/time/resources spent on you to that point has been thrown away... poor return on their investment. Are you serious with this? Isn't it human nature to want to make the world a better place, to be fully aware that 'death happens' and it is normal, but try to prevent completely senseless and unnecessary situations like the accident described from happening? After seeing a double fatality (skydiving), the first thing I wanted to do after helping my friends get through it was to try to keep that kind of preventable event from happening again. It's part of why I became an AFF instructor... to make this sport a safer place, and try to keep jumpers from killing each other. Do or do not, there is no try -Yoda

I agree that kids don't change just because they have a new label. I agree that at least some of the 'increase' in autism is due to better understanding/diagnosis. I don't see the connection to pharmaceuticals with regard to autism though. And with better understanding comes better diagnostic procedures, better research, better fund raising, better care for those with autism and related disorders (aspergers' syndrome, for example), and long term, better quality of life for those affected with the condition. Jaye can probably post more elequantly on this topic than I can though. Do or do not, there is no try -Yoda

I agree with everything here except the 'perfectly safe' part. You are putting a hunk of plastic on your eye every day, there is a risk to it... same with wearing contacts during the day. Unfortunately most patients don't really think about the risk until they come in with a problem. Primary risk are corneal abrasion (most common when learning how to deal with the contacts as a new wearer) and infection. Think about it... bacteria like warm, most, and dark environments. That's exactly what you give bacteria when you sleep in a contact. The risk is very low, and you can keep it low by taking good care of the contacts every day (rub the well, never re-use solution, wash hands before handling contacts, etc.) It's a low risk procedure, but not no-risk

With your script and part time wear of glasses anyway, I don't see why you'd bother with ortho-K... seems like more hassle and expense than it's worth in your case. How old are you? If you're somewhere in the ballpark of 40, you'll be putting readers on if your bit of nearsightedness is corrected, so you wouldn't really gain anything by it. But, to answer your quesitons.... It takes 4 seconds to put contacts in.. it's easy... once you learn how, that's the hard part Once you get the hang of it it's easy anyway. Like anything else, it takes a little practice. RGPs are not the most comfy lenses in the world, but with your eyes closed and asleep it's not too bad. Yes, you wear them every night. If you don't wear them one night, your vision will be your usual -0.75 and -0.50 rx the next day, no biggie, wear your glasses if you need 'em. Let me know if you have more questions or need more information. I'm an eye doc, and don't do ortho-k myself, it's a specialty I'm just not interested in, but I do co-manage a few ortho-k patients. Fix it the same way I did... live in it and do one thing at a time yourself. I didn't have a home equity line for anything. I saved my money, when I had enough I did what I needed. Nothing was expensive at all... the only pricey thing was new siding, that was $1500, and I got $300 back by recycling the aluminum siding that was on it. Paint is cheap, refinishing hardwood floors is cheap, flooring and tile aren't expensive, if you it yourself. Some foreclosures are the same as regular houses, some are far lower, fixer uppers either way are cheaper than perfect houses. I agree completely with getting an inspection, well spent $400. Good luck! Do or do not, there is no try -Yoda

Did you read the 'House Buying Sucks' thread that Skydivingchad started? It's true. But since you're in the market, my house in PA will be on the market March 31... wanna relocate?

First, go to an EYE doctor for an EYE problem. If the doc doesn't have a slit lamp, he's just guessing what's wrong. If he has your flu, and his sinuses are plugged up, the sinuses are connected to the eyes via the tear ducts... that's where tears go, into your sinuses then down the back of your throat. Sickness can cause a backup in the system, so what used to go down, now comes up. To make his life easier and gross you out less, get some baby shampoo and a hot washcloth, have him close his eyes, and gently clean along the eyelashes with the baby shampoo/washcloth. That will help get rid of the nasty gooiness and since his eyes are closed and the baby shampoo is mild anyway, it won't hurt him. If your recent flu was bacterial, chances are the eye infection is too, and the drops will help (and nasty green crap is usually bacterial). If your recent flu was viral, chances are this is too. Either way, it's really gross, but not vision threatenting

Can you soul search and date at the same time?
peregrinerose replied to Bolas's topic in The Bonfire
Bolas, normally I think you're hysterically funny and have great posts, but dude, I'm wanting to get the popcorn over this and the one in women's forum. Take a deep breath, relax, let go. You'll probably never have answers. That's how life works sometimes... sucks, doesn't it? Hang in there. Do or do not, there is no try -Yoda -
Do you think there should be a St. Patricks Boogie this year?

For some bizarre reason, they frown upon it when you move into a house you haven't closed on yet Do or do not, there is no try -Yoda -
Do you think there should be a St. Patricks Boogie this year?
peregrinerose replied to CSpenceFLY's topic in The Bonfire
Chad and I would love to go, but looks like we'll be moving that weekend. How about this... instead of organizing a boogie, you organize a 'help Jen and Chad move' weekend. We'll provide the beer. -
Why bother being invisible? For as much as you post whore on here, it's kind of obvious when you are online Do or do not, there is no try -Yoda

Fortunately, our home was bought as a foreclosure. I had $50K in equity the day I bought it 7 years ago. I also talked with a local property management company, and if I have to, I'll just rent it out for a year or two and sell it when the market is better. Do or do not, there is no try -Yoda

I bought my home as a foreclosure 7 years ago, so even if I sell at a fairly low amount, it's ok, I'll still make money on the deal. This whole home buying thing is a pita. Just found out from our mortgage broker that we may not be able to find a lender willing to give money for a renovated barn. Ughghghghghghghgh. This place is beautiful, the workmanship impeccable. Oh, I'm Skydivingchad's wife. Do or do not, there is no try -Yoda

Getting bored at work is an even bigger step in the right direction. My husband says I'm a post whore, but I don't understand where he's getting that. I'm silent on here, almost mouse-like, I mean really, you'd almost never even notice my presence here.... I swear. Do or do not, there is no try -Yoda

I'm one of those people that sees no need for taking a vaccine for a relatively benign and quickly adaptable virus. I'm not in the demographic that the flu kills... I'm not a kid, I'm not old, I'm not unhealthy in any way. The flu may knock me for a loop for a few days, but won't kill me, so I'll take my chances. If it was something more virulent, more deadly, or my health status changes, I may reconsider. Do or do not, there is no try -Yoda

Stop Shoving Christianity Down My Throat

On here, to possibly give you something to think about. Do you really think I went out and did all that to make one stupid post on dropzone.com??? Hardly. Do or do not, there is no try -Yoda -
Stop Shoving Christianity Down My Throat
peregrinerose replied to Andy_Copland's topic in Speakers Corner
So my participation with Lions Club doesn't count? How about my volunteer position on the board of directors of the local blind association? The years of volunteer work I've done at the hospital? The 7 animals all adopted from rescue organizations in my house? The fact that I'm starting proceedings to adopt 2 kids out of the foster care system? The 50 or so free eye exams I do every year for people I know can't pay for it? Or the free glasses that I pay for out of my pocket for those same people? Or the $100 gift card I gave to a cashier at a local Turkey Hill because life hit her really hard financially lately? None of that counts because it's not flaunted in your face every day. Your statement really pissed me off. I do my best every day to make the world around me a little bit nicer place to be. Just because I do it silently doesn't mean I don't do it. And most of my athiest/agnostic friends are just as active as I am in truly trying to help the wolrd be a better place. Do or do not, there is no try -Yoda
