You know you are in Philadelphia when...
peregrinerose replied to christoofar's topic in The Bonfire
Everything you said is true. But you are an idiot if you drive through N. Philly without doors locked, windows up, and preferrably carrying. I lived beside the Fern Rock train station for 3 years (PA College of Optometry, north of Temple). A lot of really nasty shit goes on in that area. Philly is the armpit of PA. I think we should give it to NJ and let it all fall in the ocean. Jen Do or do not, there is no try -Yoda -

LOL!! The pigfucker that laid me off with 3 days of notice is an avid hunter. I always knew about his Napolean complex, but this is even better! Do or do not, there is no try -Yoda -
DAMN, why didn't I think of that first. Ok, I have this pet rabbit named Stu. If I don't get $500 donated to Operation Freefall via checks from DZ.commers before April 30th, I'll feed Stu to my rottweiler. Any takers? Do or do not, there is no try -Yoda

I also live just outside of Hershey, Elizabethtown. Thought about military, but have no desire to be shipped out. I did find some work at a WalMart a couple days a week, interviewing in 1/2 hr with a doc soon to be out on maternity leave for another 1-2 days a week. Still have some other p/t leads as well. Hoping for 5 days covered by several p/t positions during the week. It'll be better pay than I was making at the pigfucker's practice, plus still have weekends off. Gee, I wonder what I could be doing on weekends off........... Jen Do or do not, there is no try -Yoda

Atempting freeflying before having an A license
peregrinerose replied to Foursprouts's topic in Safety and Training
I'm a newbie and need to do a check dive before I have my A (Freaking weather...) so this is just my personal opinion and means absolute shit. Consider this my disclaimer. I feel that to start on 3D flying, it is important to master or at least be reasonably proficient at 2D flying. There are so many body parts that need to be coordinated for flying in general. Take one step at a time. My husband has 50+ jumps and does dabble in freeflying. Considering he can't do RW worth shit, I think he should work on that first. But again, what I think doesn't matter! -
Anyone in Philly Area want to turn a profit?

Anyone in Philly Area want to turn a profit?

I just lost my job. I have 4 handguns and a rifle. I wonder if the pellet gun counts? Minimum that's $450, which will pay my student loans for 1 week. Hmmmm. Philly's only 2 hours away. Do or do not, there is no try -Yoda -
I wish it were that easy. I've been looking for work in the area for several months. This practice has been slow, I felt like I wasn't earning my keep, and I drove 2 hours to get here. Other than a Walmart or other vision center that is more about glasses scripts than actual eye exams, no one is hiring right now. My patients love me and the doc I worked for will give me a good reference. Jen Do or do not, there is no try -Yoda

I pay $500/week to the student loan people. I will be making $0/week. I think the dropzone is out of the question. Though I did just email them to see if they'd like a packer. I'm slow at it right now due to my newbie status, but I'll bust my ass practicing if it'll make me even enough to eat dinner that night. Do or do not, there is no try -Yoda

I signed a one year contract one year ago. The contract is up April 12. He's actually letting me go a few days before that. I do have an option open to me, but it takes a few weeks to get the insurance thing going. Probably 4-6 weeks without work. I do have a few days of fill-in work lined up. It definitely wasn't a firing. My boss was crying and going through kleenex frantically when he did it. I have a good reputation here, and I know he'll give me a glowing reference if I need it. This sucks. My boss gave me all of 3 days notice to find a new job. I'm a freaking eye doctor. You just can't go out and *poof* find something new! This office has been totaly dead lately, so no real surprise there. Please keep all of your fingers and toes crossed that I find some work soon. Jen Do or do not, there is no try -Yoda

If you lost your spouse, could you be with another person?
peregrinerose replied to JRock's topic in The Bonfire
My husband and I did discuss this. He would be with someone else, and if he was the dead one would want me to find happiness with someone else. I would have a hard time being with someone else since in my head, I'd be constantly comparing him with Chad, so probably wouldn't do it. And I don't want him letting me go so easily as to find some other girl, but would understand if he did. This is hypothetical though, until actually in the situation, we can all only guess. 'Time For Book Burning,' according to Anti-Gun Mom

I saw Maynard about 8 years ago. He kicked ass even then, though leans a lot more on his lead trumpet player for some of the solo sections. Nothing like Birdland played by Maynard

Sounds like Bell's Palsy. Cranial Nerve VII feeds 1/2 the face (one nerve on each side). If it zonks out, your face droops, your eyelid doesn't blink so well. Get to your doc asap. Make sure you tape your eye at night and put artificial tear ointment (not the drops, the stuff in the mini toothpaste type tubes). Bell's is benign, but you also need to rule out other neuro problems first (mini stroke, etc.) before writing it off as Bell's. Jen Do or do not, there is no try -Yoda

Oh, that is so not right. I love it

I HAVE been obese, and I dropped 85 lbs. I must have the metabolism of a pet rock, but by eating less and healthier foods (I live on b/t 1200-1500 cal a day) and working out 4+ days a week and staying as active as possible, it took 2 years to come off. I've been at the same weight for a year and want to lose 15 more lbs. It's tough as hell, but I also know that it is my own fault that it isn't coming off. I have been cheating a bit on watching what I eat more in the last year, and it does affect my body. It IS as simple as eating less than you burn. Your body can not physically gain mass just by breathing, it gains it's mass from intake. That intake can either be stored or burned. To keep from storing it, burn it. The trick is coming up with a ratio that results in weight loss. It is hard to have the will power, it takes constant mental reminders and hard work. I was fat, I still could lose a few pounds, but it is my responsibility and my choice to take care of my body. To lay blame elsewhere is making excuses. Jen Do or do not, there is no try -Yoda

I think there are genes that regulate metabolism, and genes that tend to make people hungrier/eat more. But if you eat less than you burn, you can not become obese. If metabolism is slow, you will need to eat less than a highly metabolic person. If you are genetically wired to eat more for whatever reason, you will need to be more aggressive with working out/controlling food intake. A lot is environmental. Fat parents have fat kids, and often eat a lot of total junk. It isn't necessarily genetic. If parents don't teach good nutrition and keep kids active, they will be slugs. Part is psychological, 'comfort foods' can/do affect mood, and depression can easily lead to over eating. There's a combination of factors with this (obviously) but all can be overcome. Obese does not mean carrying an extra few pounds in the gut either. People store fat in different areas, and if fat is stored in the gut rather than extremities, that's where you'll see it. Only way to get rid of it is virtually no body fat, which is extremely unhealthy. Jen Do or do not, there is no try -Yoda

I agree. I love where I work, gives me plenty of time to be with my husband and future children (and skydiving!), but pays about 2/3 what I could be making, if not less. And few benefits. But I'm happy. Women, I think, tend to gravitate toward more fulfilling jobs, men tend to be more money motivated. Exceptions to every rule, of course!! Do or do not, there is no try -Yoda
