  1. Fair point - it probably shouldn't - and given that I'm not into tattoos or piercings anyway then I'm not the best judge.
  2. Was there ever really any doubt? http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/worldnews/article-1194910/Teenager-Kimberley-Vlaminck-56-stars-tattoed-face-finally-comes-clean.html 'Comes clean'. Like it. I'm thinking it's going to take more than a face flannel and a bar of soap. Just looking at the photo of the tattoo artist as well, and God damn... if I wanted something subtle or tasteful done, I wouldn't be asking that guy to do it!
  3. It's not the purchase price. It's the running cost!
  4. Wait, a British accent is exotic seasoning to the English language now?
  5. Yeah, combine that with a huskiness a la Cerys Matthews and I see where you're coming from. Mmm, Cerys Matthews...
  6. Which is, more or less, the original (and often misinterpreted) meaning of 'a friend in need is a friend indeed'.
  7. In this particular case, even if you'd managed to exit the plane alive you'd still have been left bobbing around in the middle of the Alantic - in a storm - at best. By all means take your rig as carry-on, but never because you think it might help you survive a disaster. It's fantasy.
  8. Dots!? You want dots, just stab yourself with a ballpoint pen. It's cheaper. And chances are, you won't be tempted to do it 56 times.
  9. I like the way that tops the list of 'Most Popular Stories'!
  10. Or at least until the reunion! Strangely, I don't own anything by NIN. I probably should, cos I like what I've heard in movies and stuff. What would you recommend?
  11. Mm, not bad - but they could have done with a second view of the plane nose, instead of just copying and pasting the same one twice!
  12. Something you might want to consider.
  13. The interesting thing about really old threads like this is seeing how few of the posters are still around. I got almost to the end of the thread thinking, who the heck are these people? - before I noticed the dates of the posts.
  14. That's them! "Happy Hour" is a classic. Great dancing, too - must see if I can find it on YouTube. I've got that Squeeze album somewhere as well.
  15. Hate to break it to you, but he's not as cute as he was. Lisa, I guess Miley Cyrus trumps my Paul Greengrass. Are we allowed to know the context, or would that be a breach of confidence?
  16. Not bad! You've just reminded me of another one - David Soul turned up at my local DZ a few years ago. I think I'm allowed to count him since he wasn't there to skydive. He was just waiting for his helicopter.
  17. Within a week of moving to London over 20 years ago, I happened to sit opposite The Housemartins on the tube. Probably little remembered (if known at all outside the UK), their lineup included Paul Heaton (later of The Beautiful South) and Norman Cook (who would become Fatboy Slim). I thought hey, this is great! Famous people wherever you look! Since then either I've been walking round with my eyes shut, or that first impression of a celebrity on every corner was sadly wrong. All I can offer is: the inventor Clive Sinclair, who I passed once on Regent Street; Dustin Hoffman, who I saw being filmed a couple of years ago by the Thames for his movie 'Last Chance Harvey'; and the film director (of the second and third Bourne movies) Paul Greengrass, who I walked past the other day in the West End. So I was wondering - who's had a random encounter with a celebrity lately, and where? I don't think people coming to do tandem jumps count. These have to be chance sightings.
  18. Regardless of whether or not it would work, I can't see many companies forking out $3K for every office chair! Or does only the CEO get one?
  19. I guess. We just can't hear the variations in foreign accents so eaily. I've just realised nobody's mentioned French. I think that could be my favourite - French men sound pretty cool, especially if they have that kind of laconic style. And French women...
  20. Nah, it'll work fine. Heck, they've already built one 7 metres high. Only another 14,993 metres to go!
  21. In England alone accents are incredibly varied, considering it's such a small place. I can think of at least 10 completely distinct accents/ dialects from different regions, and obviously there are a lot more subtle variations that I can't distinguish so easily.
  22. I wouldnt jump any canopy in this configuration. And if it was returned with no strings attached then I'd definitely be wanting some compensation!
  23. NARWHALS, YYYEEAAHHHHH!!! Edited to add: If I lend out gear then I consider that I'm accepting part of the risk. If the borrower damaged it I'd expect them out of politeness to offer to make good, but I wouldn't necessarily take them up on it. It depends on the circumstances too - if the canopy blew up on opening then I'd probably be more embarrassed than upset, especially if it been my pack job. But if the borrower decided to fly it into a tree then I'd feel differently about it. When it comes to borrowing, it's pretty much a last resort for me and I don't like to do it. Skydiving gear is precious, and it's a serious responsibility looking after someone else's.
