I'm not convinced. To me, toasting and moisture are mutually exclusive. Don't you have to dry something out to toast it? Hence your original question, of course. Where's billvon? He's good at this science stuff, but your thread title probably hasn't exactly drawn him in.

I don't think any amount of littering is acceptable - there's just never any need for it. On the other hand people have been fined for dropping sweets and bits of crisp (potato chip!) in the street, and I think there are better ways to use law enforcement resources than for that kind of nonsense. Two things that really bug me though. People actually stopping their cars in the street, opening a door and tipping out rubbish - and lit cigarette butts. If you're going to drop your ciggie butt in the street, at least put it out!

Nope... if I pack those there isn't enough room left for teddy.

Haven't you ever heard of a barn-cat? Of course, but I don't see any mention of barns. I'm taking a cue from this thread and assuming same house, same mouse problem.
-
Do you actually mean outdoor? I'm all for keeping your house mouse-free, but deliberately taking the fight outside seems a little harsh.

Tent Therm-a-Rest mat Sleeping bag Pillow And if it's cold, a duvet. What is wrong with you people? Granted, I don't do real camping. Just a couple of nights at a time, at the dropzone.

Wow! Must be one of those Emperor penguins. I'm not sure who's flying who! Anyway, vote cast for her.

Um, you might want to add a 'NSFW' to that picture. Luckily I'm the only guy left in the office so nobody was looking over my shoulder.

Like to help, but we don't have English muffins in England. We just have muffins.

Fixed it for you. Leave it to a Brit to not get it. Um, that would be a play on words, you know...computer,website,clicky. Oh. Sorry.

Fixed it for you.

Turtle's Abbreviation thread that Skymama might make sticky.

IBTD. -
I guess time travel would be just an extension of the sort of stuff he was up to in The Prestige. In fact, maybe one birthday belongs to him, and one to his clone.

Sounds like you have all the angles covered. Good luck with whatever you decide to do with it. I'm jealous as hell!

Any idea what sort of condition it's in? Depending on how it's been stored, I'd expect 37 year old tape to be at least somewhat degraded (sticky). I think there are ways of restoring it, and maybe a buyer would only be interested in it as an 'object' anyway - but I'd expect someone to want to play it, if only to verify the contents. Of course to do that you'd probably have to locate a vintage machine to play it on!

..and in a foreign language! nope, not everybody speaks english! Tell me about it. Lots of Americans on here.

Oh, there you are!

I don't really see the connection here. People are dying all over the world in horrible circumstances every day, but it doesn't stop us from engaging in the trivia of our own lives, nor should it - that's just the way things are. Regardless of what you think of him, people paying tribute to Michael Jackson are no more dishonouring the victims of the Iraq war than they would be if they were spending the day at the mall or the dropzone.

Agreed, and obviously just the ability to skip around a movie on DVD (or download) means you're less likely to actually concentrate and watch it the way you have to in a cinema. The current issue of Empire magazine includes a huge filler article listing and categorising the greatest 'moments' from dozens of films, along with the relevant timecode to allow you to find them. Notwithstanding the lazy journalism, that just seems to miss the point entirely.

Too high on final - what are you going to do?
MikeJD replied to strop45's topic in Safety and Training
I'm not so sure about this. I can see some sense in giving this advice to very new students, but I see a lot of relatively inexperienced jumpers carrying this attitude forward. They become afraid of putting any obstacle between their point over the ground and their intended landing spot, regardless of their altitude or the winds. I think this contributes a lot to the 'too hot' problem. Jumpers who lack the confidence to fly a pattern end up either spiralling over the landing area or putting in big S-turns to avoid overshooting, and that unpredictable behaviour presents a big problem for the people behind them. -
Have you ever spat under canopy?
MikeJD replied to KermieCorleone's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I think watching anything fall away from me under canopy would probably give me vertigo. Funny how that can happen. -
Mm, agreed of course. My only beef was that they said they were busting all three myths from the same scene - and in the scene they showed (with one of them below the other, facing upwards, and their heads only inches apart) conversation should have been relatively easy. Yep - shame that doesn't make such good TV as a dummy punching a hole in the ground. Speaking of intentional mals, I remember reading somewhere about attempts to deliberately pack a lineover for a Hollywood movie (Drop Zone, maybe?) Apparently, they couldn't make it happen and eventually resorted to stitching the line to the top of the canopy. I guess there should be comfort in that!

Surprised to see no contributions from shah269 yet.

OK, from literally the first two reviews I came across online: 'To say that Charlie Kaufman’s “Synecdoche, New York” is one of the best films of the year or even one closest to my heart is such a pathetic response to its soaring ambition that I might as well pack it in right now.' (bigway, I think this is the movie you saw). and... 'a turgid challenge to sit through' (quade, I think this is the movie you saw). Fascinating . I think I'll definitely have to give it a look now!
