  1. Heck, Simon, I'll tell you what - you can have one of mine. He eats twice his own bodyweight in food daily, and five minutes after finishing a meal he'll be whining for more. He won't let you sleep beyond six in the morning and if you go around barefoot he bites your toes. He's too fat to get around much so mostly he just lies in your path and trips you up at every opportunity. Sound like the kind of thing you're looking for?
  2. Happy Valentines Day, darling. I got you a one-legged cat with a personality disorder.
  3. Well, we got ours from a friend of a friend whose cats had had a litter (and we took two because we didn't have the heart to leave one behind by itself - plus they're good company for one another). I think that's always the best way if you can do it, so I'd recommend posting an advert at work or something - seems a shame you should have to pay for a regular mog when generally speaking you're doing someone a favour by giving it a good home. But I guess with 5 days to go you need to keep all your options open. Good luck!
  4. Interesting fact - kittens, like lambs, have a season. Generally they tend to be born from around April onwards, so they're in pretty short supply at this time of year. I only know this because my work colleague is also trying to get hold of one. Anyway, the bottom line is you may have to get a young cat born last spring / summer. Whatever, don't forget that a kitten is for life etc. etc. They're great pets because they're pretty independent, but they still want breakfast long before you want to get out of bed...
  5. February 9, 2004. Hey, thats todaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa
  6. I don't think this sort of thing is really hurting the sport because that is what people expect to happen to skydivers, whether they see it on TV or not. Heck, even I'm amazed sometimes that we can take part in this freaky activity safely. I find it's damn near impossible to convince anybody outside the sport that we're not crazy - and from their point of view I don't think that's too surprising. I think if there's one perception we do have a chance of altering, it's that skydiving is just a test of courage or an adrenaline fix rather than a proper sport that tests skill and experience. And TV coverage of competitions and lots of different disciplines can certainly help fix that.
  7. Ah, the agonies of choosing a team name and getting everyone to agree on it. Winning the medals is a cinch by comparison.

    hate winter?

GREAT sculpture. I hate winter except for one thing - I get to leave the UK and spend 10 days or so at the Eloy holiday boogie. And that almost makes the pain worthwhile...
  9. I did my AFF course in Sep 1992 and Jon Secada's 'Just Another Day' was always on the radio at that time. A bit sappy really, not particularly my kind of music and nothing to do with jumping - but it never fails to take me straight back there! This amazing new experience, these fantastic new friends, and the whole dropzone vibe. It all comes back in a rush when I hear that song.
  10. I've heard it said by a few people that freefall kisses don't count. Which is very hurtful after the event

    Apostrophe's

'Bad' spelling and punctuation bug me too. And then it bugs me that I'm being anal about it! Languages do constantly evolve and from that point of view maybe we shouldn't try to stifle the process: in theory evolution is change for the good, making language more efficient and easy to use. I think part of the reason that the apostrophe has become so popular is that it often simplifies plurals. Cherries, apples and potatoes become cherry's, apple's and potato's. Forget the complicated rules about plural spellings - if in doubt, just add an apostrophe followed by an 's'.

    OMFG

"I wanted to find something different to name him besides Jon Blake," Cusack... told The Holland Sentinel. Well, what's wrong with David? Or Jeff? Or George? I only hope they remembered to deploy version 2.0 with the patch that fixes that baby naming problem... Seriously, though - I've seen far worse examples of child-naming outrage.
  13. Cheat! He's not jumping his house - just his garage! I'd be more impressed to see the car land safely on a ramp on the far side, too... call me picky.
  14. ***And yes Eloy is not in scotland - though if they have any plans of moving it - I for one would not mind it being in Scotland If they're going to move Eloy to Scotland (and I think there may be some opposition to that plan) they're gonna have to relax their cloud rules a little bit
  15. I was wondering how long it would take you to pick up on that...
  16. Liz! Our Friday is half over and yours is just beginning! Bummer! Assuming you're working today...
  17. Tuna and cucumber sandwich from Greggs. Mmm...
  18. Vicki, I'm up for that if I'm in town. But knowing my luck I'll be at the wrong office that day...
  19. Think it's all been said now, and I just want to back up the general sentiment - being nice about the accident doesn't mean you shouldn't protect your interests. I was involved in a car bump a while ago with an elderly lady. Because I was more worried about her welfare at the scene than anything else, and because I thought it was so obviously her fault, I didn't bother to get witnesses etc - which meant that she was later able to claim that I'd been in the wrong. It sounds like you have a really admirable attitude, but remember that just as your dad is telling you to fake whiplash, the other party's friends will often encourage them to lie. And they may not have the same moral standards as you! Good luck getting everything sorted out.

    stalking songs

"I Want You" by Elvis Costello. Not sure whether that's strictly speaking a stalking song but all the scary, twisted sentiments are in there...
  21. Blahr, your avatar's just inspired me to start working on mine! If any of you other creative dudes want to send me stuff, I'd love to hear it. I guess if you have the technology you could post mp3s to my dropzone.com account - as long as you can make them small enough Copyright absolutely respected, of course. In return I'll subject you to the two or three tracks I have - as long as I can get permission from my vocalist!
  22. Gremlin, Looks like finger trouble to me. The link should be: http://www.cafeshops.com/sidspecialties.5396204
  23. Gary, If you're getting a 4-track next week, tell your friends and family to make the most of the next few days. They probably won't see you for a while after that - home recording's a seriously addictive way to eat up the hours! And don't worry about the lyrics - some of the cheesy stuff I've heard on skydiving soundtracks over the years makes a great case for instrumental music!
  24. The recent 'Skydiving Painters' thread made me wonder how many dz.commers are musicians, and more specifically how many of you are creating skydiving-inspired tracks. We all like music soundtracks on our jump videos but they're usually lifted from people's CD collections. Lots of times this works great - but some of it's become a bit over-familiar (Tom Petty / Van Halen, anyone?) So is anybody else out there recording and / or using their own stuff?
