IanHarrop replied to ACMESkydiver's topic in The Bonfire
Sure... now you are going to put off procrastinating!!! "Where troubles melt like lemon drops, away above the chimney tops, that's where you'll find me" Dorothy -
This post is not directed to anyone in particular but rather to everyone that wants to find out more. There are lots of articles on this issue and very few that support declawing cats. http://www.google.ca/search?sourceid=navclient&ie=UTF-8&rls=GGLC,GGLC:1969-53,GGLC:en&q=Declawing+cats "Where troubles melt like lemon drops, away above the chimney tops, that's where you'll find me" Dorothy

Check this out. http://www.dropzone.com/safety/tools/calculator_wing_load.shtml Using an exit weight of 240 on a 168 Pilot yields a wingloading of 1.4285. Correction: mis-read your numbers. Using an exit weight of 240 on a 188 Pilot yields a wingloading of 1.2765. Do a search of the forums and you will find plenty of threads that suggest at your jump numbers that this is excessive pretty high. It is important to make sure that you can do everything you need to do with a bigger canopy before downsizing. Surviving a few jumps in ideal conditions does not mean that a 168 188 is the right canopy for you. See this page for a number of articles you should read, including "Downsizing Checklist" http://www.dropzone.com/safety/Canopy_Control/index.shtml "Where troubles melt like lemon drops, away above the chimney tops, that's where you'll find me" Dorothy

Check out this site promoting non-smoking. http://www.stupid.ca Click on the words "This is STUPID" (on the left) to be taken to a page where you can see the TV spots they've been showing lately. I think these are great! "Where troubles melt like lemon drops, away above the chimney tops, that's where you'll find me" Dorothy

Drink some green beer and sing this song... Thank you for proving one more time that you are much more than just a hot, skydiving goddess. You're smart too!

Sorry my mistake. When I first posted the answer I assumed that this was someone who was unaware of the changes at the dropzone and posted based on what I had seen on the new web site. It was only after I posted that I thought to check Rob's profile and saw where he hailed from. I can understand that the military would want S/L for their people to closer simulate their experience in real military jumps. Andrew: When are you coming out to Alberta? I'll buy you a beer to celebrate the new DZ

Serious question about gear issues I'm having
IanHarrop replied to JonBonGraham's topic in The Bonfire
Couple of thoughts.... - You might get better answers in the Gear forum. - I wouldn't put any thing on MY reserve canopy - Are you sure its the reserve and not the container? - If it is the reserve, you might want to have a rigger check if for things like mildew - A rigger might suggest a good airing so be prepared to leave it with your rigger for a week. That may have been the case but no longer.... The old Beisker has been sold and is now scheduled to open under the http://www.albertaskydivers.com banner, hopefully on April 1st. The new owners are associated with Pacific Skydivers. The new operation will be doing tandems and IAD, and is a CSPA dropzone. Editted to add: Rob... you knew this didn't you? Your profile shows you at Pacific Skydivers "Where troubles melt like lemon drops, away above the chimney tops, that's where you'll find me" Dorothy

I know a lady that resembles that remark! Red head, with a red suit, red gear, and a RED sig line! And speed dives like a red devil! (and she gives great hugs!) "Where troubles melt like lemon drops, away above the chimney tops, that's where you'll find me" Dorothy

You will be close enough to Montana, so make sure to take in the Lost Prairie boogie. "Where troubles melt like lemon drops, away above the chimney tops, that's where you'll find me" Dorothy

I like the seal because I know my rig has not been opened and reclosed without my knowledge or by someone not qualified to pack it. I presume this is why they were implemented here in N.A. They've been around longer than I have been jumping. "Where troubles melt like lemon drops, away above the chimney tops, that's where you'll find me" Dorothy

You should probably get the Alti-2 folks on the phone and get their direct help solving your problem. You want to be able to get the newer versions of the software loaded. By example, there is newer version of the software coming out soon that will incorporate some minor bug fixes as well as Training Mode. This is a process for helping people understand how their altitude will change during high-speed and partial malfunctions so that they can practice their EPs on the ground. When I first got mine (over a year ago) I was able to speak right to someone on the development team and they helped me through the issue I was having. I've never had to send mine in but from what I hear, you can expect great service if you have to send yours to them. As I thought about this some more it occurred to me that Bill should look at having this posted as an article. In that way perhaps more people would read it and benefit by it. There are a lot of dropzones in places where the ground level altitude is already high enough that once you put people on an Otter the loads are going pretty high. All of these people would benefit from reading this. "Where troubles melt like lemon drops, away above the chimney tops, that's where you'll find me" Dorothy

I'm very surprised!!! 37 jumps and never been kissed? Come up to Canada and that will be taken care of quickly. Up here it may be cold but the male skydivers here have all the right hormones! Where have you been jumping? "Where troubles melt like lemon drops, away above the chimney tops, that's where you'll find me" Dorothy

Or they could have gotten a cowboy cop like McLoed to come along on horse back and lassoo the guy with his lariat. Now I understand that McLoed was stationed in New York but you'd think that cops in Canada should all have these skills.

I found this to be a very interesting thread and I am going to use this information whenever I can. In fact I think this is the kind of information that needs to spread around for the benefit of everyone. On the other hand, there was one point in the original post that I have an issue with. The comment was "I was in fairly good shape, didn't smoke, resting heart rate around 65, no problems with cardiovascular exercise or lung capacity (I bike to work.)" Now Bill may indeed "bike" to work but I refer you to the post below where there is a description and a picture of his "bike". http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?post=1450842#1450842 Fess up Bill, you're on the road to being old and feeble like the rest of us and use a power assisted bike to get to work!
