  1. I'm curious.. is there any way you can post a picture of the device in question? "Where troubles melt like lemon drops, away above the chimney tops, that's where you'll find me" Dorothy
  2. I've always found this strange.... the modifier "Senior" added to the term "Rigger" should indicate that somewhere there is a "Junior" or just plain "Rigger". Is this a hold over from the past, were there more classifications of Riggers that have been scrapped? 3. Why should the Canadian public be in more danger than the Canadian military, which has some guns but no bullets
  4. At least in Canada we can run away from danger..... unlike the kids in Florida
  5. What the hell are you doing in here? Didn't you just get married? Shouldn't you be knock'n boots right now? OOPS forgot, I was married once, guess that knock'n boots thing is over "Where troubles melt like lemon drops, away above the chimney tops, that's where you'll find me" Dorothy
  6. ????? My theory is that Plastic trees are made out of plastic so what are fake plastic trees made out of? Perhaps wood? What is "Fake Plastic"?
  7. http://www.simlog.com/muscle-memory.html ----- But after a while, the "seeing-thinking-doing" gradually becomes "seeing-doing" because your muscles seem to "know" and "remember" just what to do. What you're learning now is speed, i.e. how to perform the task carefully and quickly. That's muscle memory. Scientists call this "kinesthetic memory" or "neuro-muscular facilitation" and they speak of "sensory-motor" learning, since you are combining sensing input, i.e. what you see with your eyes, with motor output, i.e. what you do with your body. Of course, during the "drill-and-practice", your muscles aren't really memorizing anything (since all memories are stored in your brain). Instead, what you see with your eyes is interpreted by your brain in the form of nerve signals to your muscles to make your body move. Now by making the same movements in response to the same visual cues over and over again, the associated nerve-muscle connections gradually become more effective, i.e. the transmission of the signals becomes more effective, and this is how the "thinking" in the "seeing-thinking-doing" is gradually replaced by "seeing-doing", i.e. by muscle memory. ----- "Where troubles melt like lemon drops, away above the chimney tops, that's where you'll find me" Dorothy
  8. I don't know him but being the curious type, good old Google yeilds his web site. I used to have equipment that looked like that too http://www.cofc.edu/~wraggj/skydive_hist.html "Where troubles melt like lemon drops, away above the chimney tops, that's where you'll find me" Dorothy
  9. Many years ago I was dropping SL students and one pilot we had used to keep a hatchet under his seat. He would tell everyone that if we ever had a SL student get hung up to just get out of the way because he was going to cut them loose. 10. They have it listed in their downloads - is there more information that you have found? "Where troubles melt like lemon drops, away above the chimney tops, that's where you'll find me" Dorothy
  11. I had a similiar problem using Norton Intternet Security (virus protection + firewall) last December. http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?post=1400355#1400355 In Norton, I was able to un-block the IP address for dz.com and get back in. 12. Are you able to make your point without typing a diatribe? Frankly the long winded discourses you written cover get boring. Make it easy for us stupid people, be brief and to the point and take the emotion out of your posts. In 3 short bullet points can you say what you want? 13. So go ahead, I'm sure you have that right with regard to any thing you purchase, including the Neptune. I'm just not sure that's it the manufacturers responsibility to make it easy for you, and that includes Alti-2. 16. You guys going to have fun with Titan - it will come with an API and it is designed for people to interface with and create new applications! http://www.alti-2.com/Titan/titan.htm Regarding the Neptune, I have a better understanding of motives now - thanks for explaining. I think I was confused by an earlier post that indicated that someone would feel safer if they could look at the code in the Neptune. I assumed that they wanted to look at the code that manages how a Neptune functions but later posts clarified that all they really wanted was to be able to play with the jump data collected by the Neptune. 17. Granted they do not write the software that runs on your PC that lets you display the data that the Neptune has captured. I think the concern is just what they state regarding the software that runs on the Neptune. They do in fact write this software and it is this code that actually performs functions on the Neptune. I accept at face value their comment: "Neptune not only has the capability of downloading jump data, it is also an upgradeable device. In other words, it is possible to write new data to Neptune. On one hand this is a great feature which allows users to always have the latest version of code. On the other hand, Neptune code and/or user settings can be corrupted if misused, potentially creating a dangerous situation. For this reason the communication protocol is proprietary." 18. I've never lost any data and I've changed the battery/updated software numerous times when testing beta sofwtare etc. It will hold 200 jumps. "Where troubles melt like lemon drops, away above the chimney tops, that's where you'll find me" Dorothy
  19. I understand the sentiment but such is life when it comes to intellectual property. That code and how they make the thing do what it does is how they pay the bills. "Where troubles melt like lemon drops, away above the chimney tops, that's where you'll find me" Dorothy
  20. From their manual: ---- Can I have access to Neptune's communication protocol to make my own software? No. Here's why not: >>>>>> Neptune Communication Protocol - why is it proprietary? Neptune not only has the capability of downloading jump data, it is also an upgradeable device. In other words, it is possible to write new data to Neptune. On one hand this is a great feature which allows users to always have the latest version of code. On the other hand, Neptune code and/or user settings can be corrupted if misused, potentially creating a dangerous situation. For this reason the communication protocol is proprietary. Since the communication protocol is proprietary, we needed software that would allow users to download their jump data without altering the functions of the device. The cost of developing such a package from a clean sheet of paper is significant and the resulting cost of software developed in-house would be high. We reviewed existing packages on the market and found Paralog to be a mature product with a price much lower than what we would have to charge for Alti-2 specific software. It soon became an obvious alternative to developing our own package. We have since reached an agreement with the author of Paralog and the package has been adapted to communicate with Neptune. Paralog also has the facility to access the raw log data. The combination of Neptune and Paralog gives Neptune owners a complete package which allows communication with Neptune in a safe, reliable and economic way. ---- "Where troubles melt like lemon drops, away above the chimney tops, that's where you'll find me" Dorothy
  21. I've found a site that appears to have good information about all supreme court members. http://www.oyez.org/oyez/portlet/justices/ "Where troubles melt like lemon drops, away above the chimney tops, that's where you'll find me" Dorothy
  22. I have been able to answer my own question about the number of supreme court nominees not confirmed. It doesn't happen very often, so expect this nominee to be confirmed. http://www.loc.gov/rr/law/notconfirmed.html "Where troubles melt like lemon drops, away above the chimney tops, that's where you'll find me" Dorothy
  23. What real chance is there that she will not get confirmed? Isn't it a rare thing for nominees to not be confirmed? I remember the Bork situation but have there been many others? "Where troubles melt like lemon drops, away above the chimney tops, that's where you'll find me" Dorothy
  24. Looking at your avatar - no way you're over 50! And the last time I saw Neil Diamond was in 1985 (i think..), does he still do the concert thing? "Where troubles melt like lemon drops, away above the chimney tops, that's where you'll find me" Dorothy
  25. I ordered a Protec from Paragear and had it in my hands - in Canada - in a week. If you need it in 2 weeks you should call any one you're thinking of ordering it from and find out how fast they can ship. I got lucky - the border can really slow things down.
