Jump Prices Lowering With Fuel Prices?
ffp1974 replied to GreenLight's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Paying an extra dollar or two for higher gas prices doesn't bother me. BUT the high price of gear is what gets me depressed. -
Now I just have to see how to fix my logbook software from 90 to 180 days.

That is what I was taught. Fly your slot and give a good stable base. Of course the guy that told me I should have brought the formation down to help the others, also was the one who told me to fly my slot a few weeks ago. lol I will state we were doing a dog bone and i was the connecting piece, with my back to the others trying to get into the formation.

We had an 8 way sky dive being built on Sun. The four way was connected. Is it the groups concern to bring the formation down to the jumpers that are going low. Or provide a stable base for them to get to?

yep I need to add customer service. As far as quality, if you are buying new equipment, I would think the quality would be there

When buying new equipment. What matters most to you. Price , is it the cheapest you can find? Convenience, would you rather mail order the item directly to you? Local Dealer, would you rather deal with a local dealer, at your dropzone?

Hope all of you Houston jumpers are okay out there. From a Katrina survivor to an Ike survivor, hang in there!!! Francis Farmer

Skydiving as a Single parent
ffp1974 replied to ropediver27's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I have raised two boys, so I don't dislike kids. But they were only at the dz twice within 10 years. There mother was there the entire time. But I surely wouldn't have wanted them there to hear the stuff I hear. Heck sometimes I don't want to hear that mess -

Boy am i being bitched at via personal email. You would think I advocated forced abortion on the dz. Excuse me for having an opinion. BUT a dz is not the most wholesome place for children. I guess it is okay, if you don't mind them hearing fuck about a zillion times. Plus they either play in the packing area or in the landing area. Never mind that big silver thing with the spinning propeller. -

I have no problem with kids. But why should the people who pay to jump, just like you, have to put up with kids running around the dz? -
That makes my neck hurt. wow 10 pounds!

It seems like to me, that is mostly guys that want to do naked skydives. ugh! I would prefer to see some beautiful women skydiving naked.

I really don't like having kids or dogs at the dz. They get in the way, and they are witness to some of the worst language around. I use skydiving as an escape, why should I have to endure your kids, when I never brought mine to the dz. As for dogs, just because you don't have kids, doesn't mean we want to see your dog. I am tired of hearing them bark, plus I have to watch where I am walking, after I have landed. Bond with your children, with childrens activities. Scouting, etc. FF -
Thats great, but I was hoping for somewhere in the south. I really like Skydive Chicago, but that is a pretty good drive for me. ThanksFF

Anyone know of a dz that plans on having balloon jumps this summer? Thanks Francis

I don't know how it is in other areas of the country, but here the emphasis is on building more buildings. To their preception, the more buildings you have the better institution you are. Plus you can hound your allumni to give money, so they will put the alumni's name on a building. Most institutions have an enormous staff, with tons of vice-presidents, provost, etc. All making temendous salaries. But what do they really do? One of my sons went to a junior college first. His grades and act gave him a free ride. All we paid for was food and lodging.

I believe that college has turned away from education and toward a for big profit institution. Now it has been over 30 years since I was in college, but here are the differnces. We were on the quarter system, all books were free. I lived at home with my folks and went to school. I paid $ 275 per quarter and got graduated in 4 years. Now I have two kids in college, both are going to be in for 5 years. They are on the semester system and we pay around 3k per semester. Not counting books and room and board. Everyday we get something in the mail about college loans. The lending institutions make it so easy to get a loan, you don't have to start paying until you graduate. Yeah right, but the interest in accruing all while you are in college.
