Are you saying that being out of work caused your driver's license to get suspended? How/why would that be? I'm sorry you're having a tough time of it. I hope the situation gets rectified. I just don't understand the sequence of events you're laying out. Why do they want you in jail? For non-payment of child support? Yeah, that's f-ed up, because of course a guy who is in jail can't make money to pay. I think they use that as a last resort, however, for people they figure are never gonna pay if not threatened with jail even though they could pay... I've had a parking ticket in Palm Beach that I still haven't paid -- it's three years old + and I've received a collections notice on it. I found that it still did not prevent me from reregistering my car... Look, I'm no fan of Florida -- I'm a transplant, and I feel that this state is fucked up in a lot of ways. But I can't see singling out Florida about this, because I think a lot of other places do this kind of thing. My dad was talking with me about how in NY if you live in public housing, and someone in the household is caught with drugs (dealing, doing) they will evict the entire family. So a mom who works two jobs and has a son who unbeknownst to her is dealing, gets evicted when they arrest him on the corner. So now we have a system that punishes people who have not committed a crime, by association. Good luck. -Jeffrey -Jeffrey "With tha thoughts of a militant mind... Six Hunters Murdered on Private Land in Wisconsin
peacefuljeffrey replied to Viking's topic in Speakers Corner
I've read stories where drunk people broke into houses that were not theirs and got themselves shot by the homeowners who justifiably feared for their lives, and then we find out that the drunk moron just mistakenly thought he was at his own house. What I'm saying has nothing to do with the reasons shots were fired, but it has much to do with who initiated the sequence of events that led to a problem arising. If this guy had not been such a fuckup and had not, either deliberately or mistakenly, put himself in someone else's tree stand on someone else's property, by being responsibile and competent, this probably would not have happened -- unless, of course, he DID plan to shoot a bunch of hunters. Start watching for the PETA ties to this piece of shit. Maybe they're recruiting people even more psychotic, arming them, and send them afield to kill those who kill deer... -Jeffrey -Jeffrey "With tha thoughts of a militant mind... Sometimes I wonder if people, human beings in general, are not making a mistake when they consider photographic or ornamental souvenirs of "their love" as so crucial. I know it would be a heartbreak, but even if all of a couple's photos and stuff (wedding dresses, etc.) perished in a fire, they still have each other, and memories in their HEADS. Is the other stuff really necessary, given the tacit understanding that it is fleeting and vulnerable to easy destruction? Now, in answer to the question, I guess I would have to say "my rig" as well. Lately it is the most important thing to me, providing so much enjoyment AND it is the most expensive single thing I own apart from my car. Despite what I said above, I AM a strong sentimentalist, and I have a load of sentimental stuff. The quandary that this question puts me in is that I could never choose a single greatest sentimental object to save. I do have a BOX filled with them, and also a footlocker filled with them, so if I said, "I'd save the BOX," or, "I'd save the TRUNK," would that be a cop-out answer, since there are literally dozens of special things in those boxes? I'd also have to consider saving my journal. My Ashley Book of Knots... but that can easily be re-bought for $60... Ever go through your house to clean up the clutter and find that it takes a while because you're always weighing how much you feel you need to save thing X, when you really know that you need to throw out as much clutter and unnecessary junk as possible? When I do that, I often find myself forcing myself to sever emotional or sentimental ties to things, and then it becomes easier. Look, I have a little bronze thingie that has my share of my mom's ashes in it. But I have to say that if I never had it again, I would not be all that upset, as much as I did/do love my mom. It's just her ashes! It's a little box made of metal with her ashes. Must I be forever tethered to it til the day that I die? And if not my mother's ashes, what else is so important that losing it would mean I just couldn't go on? This is a very thought-provoking issue... -Jeffrey -Jeffrey "With tha thoughts of a militant mind... Hard line, hard line after hard line!"

How do we stop all the corruption in this world?
peacefuljeffrey replied to akarunway's topic in Speakers Corner
So if good people are going around being good, even if they could do it ALL of the time, bad people can't LIE about the good people to turn them against them? Isn't it well known that we were told lies about how the Russians felt about us, and the Russian people were told lies about how we felt about them? The only people who controlled what we knew about how the other felt about us were the governments that hated each other, since we did not have direct contact with the people themselves. We were manipulated into HATING by people using LIES! Look at how lies can be used to color popular perception: when the Glock came out, people who should have either known it was a lie, or kept their mouths shut because they didn't have any familiarity with the weapon, spouted off to a public eager to hear how evil guns were, that they were all-plastic and were the "terrorists' choice" because they could easily pass through airport metal detectors unnoticed. That's an example of how a lie can become almost universally accepted. It doesn't matter that Glock was "being good" and had not made an all-plastic gun. -Jeffrey -Jeffrey "With tha thoughts of a militant mind... Hard line, hard line after hard line!" -
With that recognized, why can't we agree that even IF the economy turned to shit under Bush, that it's just the luck of the draw and any booming economy will have to swing down sometime. To the comment that under Clinton we had a "treasury SURPLUS" -- WHAT A LOAD OF SHIT. First of all, I think you are thinking of a BUDGET surplus. Our country has carried a multi-trillion dollar national DEBT for decades. Supposedly, under Clinton, we had a BUDGET surplus, which meant that the government expected to take in more money than it had plans to spend. That is not even in the same universe as getting rid of the fiscal debt of the government. That was always there. Someone correct me if I'm wrong. Besides which, the farcical "budget surplus" under Clinton was fiscal chicanery at its most cynical. I read in a newspaper article that when figuring the "money IN" column, Clinton's administration counted the proceeds of sales of lands owned by the federal government even though there were no buyers for this land. One example, if I recall correctly, was Governor's Island in NYC, the alleged $5 billion market value of which Clinton essentially included in the total money that the government had that year. That's rather like owning a rare comic book that should be worth $25,000 and although not a single person is interested in buying it from you, you pretend that you have $25,000 that you could spend at any time because you own it. Clinton's "surpluses" were a farce. -Jeffrey -Jeffrey "With tha thoughts of a militant mind... Hard line, hard line after hard line!"

How do we stop all the corruption in this world?
peacefuljeffrey replied to akarunway's topic in Speakers Corner
That will be about as effective as trying to show OBL that we really love and understand him, by not retaliating against his terror attacks. You are right. We can set all the good examples that we want; there will always be people who are corrupt in their core, who will see our good behavior and amiability as weakness to be exploited. And they will cheat, and steal, and rape, and kill, because they will regard us as saps. They will see anyone who tries to live by setting a good example of how to be a good person as a loser who is too stupid to take for himself while the takin's good. Setting a good example is good for its own sake -- but it will not change the people who are inclined to be scumbag shitwads. -Jeffrey -Jeffrey "With tha thoughts of a militant mind... distance from your local DZ?
peacefuljeffrey replied to Nimitz88's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I drive to Sebastion from West Palm Beach on the weekends. Each way is about 96 miles, and takes between 1.5 - 2.0 hours or so. Skydiving is worth it. -Jeffrey -Jeffrey "With tha thoughts of a militant mind... Hard line, hard line after hard line!" -
I'd rather get the ones that Bart Simpson had -- the checkbook was a flipbook of the Hindenberg blowing up! -Jeffrey -Jeffrey "With tha thoughts of a militant mind... Hard line, hard line after hard line!"

How cold was it where -you- were jumping?!
peacefuljeffrey replied to ltdiver's topic in The Bonfire
I was jumpin' at Sebastian today and it was BEEEE-OOOOTEEEFULLLLL! On the ground it was in the 70s, and who knows what it was at 13,500, but if it was cold I sure didn't notice it 'cause I was busy getting in on 10-way attempts and 6-way hybrids! OMG is it fun to be a hanger on a 6-way hybrid! I forgot, is that the right term for the guys who stand below a hybrid? I'm sooo new to this but it's coming together nicely. -
OK what in the HELL happened to Leeann Rimes' Teeth?!
peacefuljeffrey replied to Viking's topic in The Bonfire
Yeah, but you just know she's gonna want to cuddle, afterwards. LOL! No, I'm serious, that same sort of thing happened to my gums when I was in 7th grade and had braces! It was because the braces kept me from being able to floss my teeth. So I don't know what Leeann's excuse is... But that is just gross! Puffy, inflamed gums are a sign of bad oral hygiene. I have to wonder where else her hygiene is lacking... EEEEEEeeeewwwww! -Jeffrey -Jeffrey "With tha thoughts of a militant mind... Hard line, hard line after hard line!" -
I read these responses, after checking "NO," and find (as I have in the past when this subject has been raised) that I feel a pang of envy for those who have seen this happen; a pang of envy for those guys who have become dads whereas I have as yet not; and a pang of envy for the women who can create life as they do. That must feel like a super-power!

EX-fucking-ACTLY. Florida had very specific legal requirements regarding deadlines for recounts. The Florida Supreme Court -- overwhelmingly Democrat, I would add -- extended the deadlines for recounts (trying desperately to give Dems a chance to materialize Gore votes) with no basis in the Florida law. The U.S. Supreme Court simply said, "Prove where Florida elections law says you can extend this state law recount deadline the way you did. And they couldn't. True that. And it's funny, the heavily black areas tend to be heavily Democratic, and so if claims are made that the voting process in those areas hassled blacks, then it was Democrat politicos doing it. Holy shit, yes. As someone living in the center of Palm Beach County at the time, as now, I can tell you that they tried desperately to find a way to count the votes so as to give Gore the edge, and they could not. Every day, I read three newspapers: the Palm Beach Post, the Miami Herald, and the Ft. Lauderdale Sun-Sentinel. They are all known for a liberal editorial bias. They all tried to recount in favor of Gore. They all could not manage it. -Jeffrey -Jeffrey "With tha thoughts of a militant mind... Hard line, hard line after hard line!"

Six Hunters Murdered on Private Land in Wisconsin
peacefuljeffrey replied to Viking's topic in Speakers Corner
PETA quote (not exactly): "A dog is a pig is a rat is a boy" You think those people have any respect for HUMAN life? No, I think PETA are assholes, and OH how I would love to see a PETA member hit a deer on a highway and watch their reaction when EMS got there and left them to bleed out on the pavement while they tended to the wounded deer! We'd see the depth of their bullshit "people are no better than animals" convictions then. Gimme a fucking break. -Jeffrey -Jeffrey "With tha thoughts of a militant mind... Six Hunters Murdered on Private Land in Wisconsin
peacefuljeffrey replied to Viking's topic in Speakers Corner
I am withholding judgment on this one until the forensics people have had their crack at it. No doubt, in a case like this, a HUGE amount of information is going to be divulged by the evidence at the scene. Wound channels, vectors, etc. There is no way, I think, that a bullshit story will end up holding up in the face of the torrent of evidence that is probably mounting as we speak. We'll soon know if this guy was a psychopath or not, and whether the hunters who responded to him were of a mind to murder him. (It seems less likely to me that 8 other people including a school-aged girl would be all acting in concert to kill this guy just for being an Asian-born interloper...) One big question I have is, "Why the hell was he up in a tree stand on private property if he were truly there to hunt deer?" They say he had gotten lost. So rather than find his party (was there a party he was there with?), he set up to hunt deer in someone else's tree stand?? If he truly thought he was on public hunting land, did he think that they just left tree stands up for anyone to use? If he had legitimate plans there, his first clue that he was where he shouldn't be was the fact that he found a tree stand in what he claims he believed was public land. And I want to know, did he have other hunting gear with him, or just his rifle? -Jeffrey -Jeffrey "With tha thoughts of a militant mind... Hard line, hard line after hard line!" -
Six Hunters Murdered on Private Land in Wisconsin
peacefuljeffrey replied to Viking's topic in Speakers Corner
Now I don't consider that a very mature thing to say, at all. People died, here. Show some respect. Now you're likening these humans to animals? I think it speaks something of the people who were killed that they did NOT circle this guy like they were out to kill him (his claim is that they shot at him first); there was ONE gun found among the hunters who responded. I myself find this odd, if they were hunters summoned by a guy who said he'd been shot, but then maybe they thought he meant a hunting accident... Of course, with stories like this, often the inaccurate first reports are seldom corrected in follow-up stories. It's not like the Palm Beach Post is going to dog this story to its conclusion. They'll report only those refreshers that can tittilate the audience, but they are certainly not wrapped up in a responsibility to make sure you can follow all the developments along the way. For certain, it is possible that after the first "one gun was found among the 8 hunters" report, more guns might possibly have been found. Who knows. I'm a non-hunter also, but that's just a personal thing and I don't have a problem with people hunting. And I don't disparage them the way you seem disposed to. I too shoot non-living targets and will shoot only those humans who threaten my life. -Jeffrey -Jeffrey "With tha thoughts of a militant mind... Hard line, hard line after hard line!" -

Well, they'll claim that the tool made it "easier" to do the killings... I don't know, but, hey, informal poll time: Raise your hand if you would find it "easy" to murder people... even with a so-called "assault weapon"... I didn't think so. So maybe murder really is all about a murder-capable mentality, and not the tool used. -Jeffrey -Jeffrey "With tha thoughts of a militant mind... Hard line, hard line after hard line!" -
Your decisions are your own, but when you say something like, "It isn't wise to [carry]," you overstep your own authority. There is no validity to a blanket statement that it is unwise to carry a gun. -Jeffrey -Jeffrey "With tha thoughts of a militant mind... Hard line, hard line after hard line!"

Wait, you're arguing that just because someone has a university education he can't possibly be naive or ignorant? That itself is naive and ignorant. -Jeffrey -Jeffrey "With tha thoughts of a militant mind... Hard line, hard line after hard line!"

You really ought to have asked, "Would all you pro-gun owners support the HYPOTHETICAL IDEA of having only non-fatal, tranquilizing ammunition?" See, we already know that a ban on "everyone" having lethal ammunition would succeed in keeping only good people from having lethal ammo. Those who didn't feel like going along with the smart-ammo scheme (criminals, etc.) would simply not give theirs up; would use illegal sources; would manufacture their own lethal ammo... Like ANY OTHER BAN, it would affect only those not determined to evade it. So my answer remains no. Why should I agree to put restrictions on myself voluntarily when I know my enemies will do no such thing? -Jeffrey -Jeffrey "With tha thoughts of a militant mind... Hard line, hard line after hard line!"

Several times, I and others have posted long lists of attributed, verifiable quotes by people in power who DO want EXACTLY THAT. Do you think that just because you claim it, it's true? Yes, but what you're ignoring is that saying, "IF smart tranquilizing handguns would prove to be reliable and working," is kind of like saying, "IF I could buy a pair of robotic legs that could enable me to jump to the moon, would I decide to jump to the moon?" Pish-posh. The question is moot. There are too many obstacles to your magic-bullet dream ever working reliably. -Jeffrey -Jeffrey "With tha thoughts of a militant mind... This would be the same Kofi Annan, UN secretary general who is pushing gun bans on sovereign nations while being protected on U.S. soil in New York City by bodyguards carrying weapons that are illegal, without the proper carry licenses in that city? UGHH!! If you've ever had to drink sodium laxative...
peacefuljeffrey replied to peacefuljeffrey's topic in The Bonfire
You're welcome! Yeah, my brother is like that. My dad has had the test. I'm not sure about my sisters. I really don't ever get embarrassed about medical procedures. I mean, there I was lying on my side about to get anesthetized and have a big black snake-thingie stuck up my butt, with two women and a male doctor right there in the room! Did I care? NO. This is about preserving my health, and the people involved are professionals, so I refuse to allow myself to feel the slightest shame about it. -Jeffrey -Jeffrey "With tha thoughts of a militant mind... peacefuljeffrey replied to peacefuljeffrey's topic in The Bonfire
Heh heh. Sounds familiar. The absolute worst part of it for me -- since I figured out that holding my nose kills much of the taste of the laxative -- was going hungry for the whole day and night. I am not the type who can go long without feeding. Sorry about your dad. My mom did not have a particularly easy time of it, either. If I can prevent having to go that way, I will. Some people, like my brother, are afraid to go finding out stuff like this. They prefer to never know -- presumably until they're already sick. I've tried to push him to get tested, and he ducks it each time, but hey, it's his life to live, not mine. But you'd think that a guy with a new daughter would want to go and assure his own health for a while... -Jeffrey -Jeffrey "With tha thoughts of a militant mind...
