  1. This is such a huge load of crap it's pathetic. On what evidence do you make the statement that society (i.e. as a whole, in general, for the most part, etc.) believes it's "OK" to victimize anyone? What meeting did I miss, where society decided to pin down the named groups it would consider subhuman? 'Cause no one told me which groups I supposedly consider it okay to victimize. - -Jeffrey "With tha thoughts of a militant mind... Hard line, hard line after hard line!"
  2. Any person that decides to harrass, threaten, beat or kill another based on religion, race, ethnicity or sexual orientation would be held accountable to the same standard. Do you have something -specific- in mind? What's wrong with simply prosecuting someone for harrassing, threatening, beating or killing a victim? Who gives a shit why they did it? The crime is the crime. What if a person is a total homophobe but never acts out against gays? No crime. So if a person kills a gay victim, but not because he was gay? Crime. And if a person kills a gay victim because he was gay. Crime. So tell me why the "because he was gay" part is necessary in order to put the killer away for murder? The answer is, it's not. All you're saying -- and this cannot be denied -- is that you consider the crime somehow "worse" because of what the killer thought about the lifestyle of the victim. That is tantamount to criminalizing certain thoughts. - - -Jeffrey "With tha thoughts of a militant mind... Hard line, hard line after hard line!"
  3. What you offer fails utterly to rationalize the "need" for hate-crime legislation. You simply don't make any substantive case for it. ANY murder must be prosecuted (given that there is evidence to support a prosecution). If the police fail to arrest a suspect simply because the victim is in a "protected" class, those police should be in trouble with the law -- and CAN be, even without hate-crime legislation. If a police force is so ethically bankrupt that it would neglect to charge someone just because the victim was gay -- so they won't uphold the law against MURDERING a human being -- what makes you think they'd even bother to apply the "hate-crime" law?? Likewise, if a person is willing to murder a gay/black/whatever person ("protected class"), is the hate-crime law supposed to dissuade him from that willingness? "Uh-oh, better not murder that guy after all, or they'll get us for being mean to a gay guy!" We're talking about people who already are capable of cold-blooded murder. That's like thinking someone who breaks in and slashes a woman's throat as she sleeps is going to be worried about the B&E charge! There is nothing about a hate crime law that provides for getting the bad guys any better than the laws that already govern harming others. Period. All they do is outlaw feeling a certain way. - -Jeffrey "With tha thoughts of a militant mind... Hard line, hard line after hard line!"
  4. Althought I often side with what you'd call "the conservative side," it's a good thing I don't consider myself "a conservative" or I'd think you just called me a pussy. And for the record, I don't support this bullshit evil encroachment on liberty for the illusion of safety by an inept government. What I support is the notion of our citizenry being armed, and like in Israel, having them fuckin' OFF the terrorist scumbags when they start shrieking to allah just before they detonate their bomb-belts. The PEOPLE have to be the ones who take back our country's safety, not the government, or it will never work. - - -Jeffrey "With tha thoughts of a militant mind... 5. So then it shouldn't bother you if, on occasion, the government sends its agents into your home to make sure you're not growing marijuana in the basement or storing kiddie-porn on your computer, and that you have no illegal immigrants enslaved and chained to a radiator. If you're hiding none of these kinds of things, you should not object to being searched since there's nothing to get in trouble for in your possession, but "if it saves just one life... - -Jeffrey "With tha thoughts of a militant mind... 6. If the "age of majority" is EIGHTEEN, and you can be a legal adult, sign contracts, vote, and join the military (without parental consent), you should also be entitled to drink alcohol and own any legal firearm (handgun, not just long gun). The idea that there are secondary or tertiary "ages of majority" depending on the subject is bullshit. - -Jeffrey "With tha thoughts of a militant mind... Hard line, hard line after hard line!"
  7. Good. It's a start that he's skydiving. Now all he has to do to earn back my respect is re-join the NRA and admit that yes, in fact, the BATF IS a bunch of jackbooted thugs. - -Jeffrey "With tha thoughts of a militant mind... Hard line, hard line after hard line!"
  8. *hopping up and down raising hand* I did! I did! That book was a lot of fun. Sort of a pro-gunner's wet dream... I've been meaning to read it again. What specifically did they do with bodies? I don't remember that, apart from having the helos crash into the water-filled quarry to disappear from view... What'd he do with the bodies of the ATF agents who raided his buddy's place? (There was a good scene involving habanero pepper sauce, a golf ball, and a bound crooked federal agent in that book...) - -Jeffrey "With tha thoughts of a militant mind... 10. Yes...but I only have two. Oh, puhlease, Rosa -- yours count for more than just two! They should be cloned and a set issued to every adolescent American male at the onset of puberty! - -Jeffrey "With tha thoughts of a militant mind... Hard line, hard line after hard line!"
  11. QuoteWow, no options for under $1000 for the bride's ring!!??? Are wedding rings that expensive??? Quote Check out Titanium Wedding Rings at this site. Some of them are WAY cool, and most are between $200 and $600. While they'll last you a lifetime, be warned that they DO scuff up almost right away (you'll see it in a mirror-polished ring) but still, the idea that it's titanium... is way cool too. - -Jeffrey "With tha thoughts of a militant mind... Hard line, hard line after hard line!"
  12. You mean this thread is not about simultaneous orgasms?! -Jeffrey
  13. Ohhh, chica, you didn't even have to ask for that stuff -- it was pouring out of me the moment I read your header! I'm so sorry to hear this bad news -- feels worse because today was the first day I got to jump in two months so it was a good one for me. But no more about me: I want you to know that I and we all love you (even those of us who haven't yet met you in person) and are beaming love, prayers, vibes and support to you at this very moment and will continue to until you're healed and flying again! Blue skies, -Jeffrey
  14. I haven't read any followups on this story -- just the linked one -- but I could see this guy becoming some kind of folk hero. I'm sure a lot of people have been shafted by crooked scumbag small-town commissioners and zoning boards. - -Jeffrey "With tha thoughts of a militant mind... Hard line, hard line after hard line!"
  15. You didn't just say "FROSH", did you?? This thread started out with mention of the "tragically hip," and now has degenerated into "tragically P.C." Who says "frosh"?! -Jeffrey
  16. Are you sure? Cause, I don't know..............I'm tired of this ride too. J Guys, gals, tough it out, no matter how bad it might seem. Just remember that you've got eternity to be dead -- no point in rushing it. - -Jeffrey "With tha thoughts of a militant mind... Hard line, hard line after hard line!"

  18. My sister gave me a license plate holder that said that, back in '91 when I had done like three jumps! (I barely felt that I had the experience to justify having it on my car but I left it on for a long while.) I guess it's time to put it back on my car, but I like my "FLY" one that's on there currently, too. I guess I'll have to rotate them. As far as stickers, on my old car, I had "Frisbee Disc changed my life," and "Protect Freedom" (an NRA election-slogan sticker). I have a bunch of stickers that I like but I don't want to put them on the bumper of my new-ish car. These are others I have: "Choose Death" (looks like the old "Choose Life" stickers) "Got Brains?" "FUCK being politically correct!" "If you freedom, you own a gun" "Everyone should own a gun and know how to use it" "Fear the government that fears your gun" "If guns are outlawed, only outlaws will have guns" "China has gun control" "Where has a gun law reduced crime??" Some I've seen and liked: "Zero to 60 in fifteen minutes" "You toucha this car, I breaka you face" "I'm not speeding: I'm flying low" - -Jeffrey "With tha thoughts of a militant mind... Hard line, hard line after hard line!"
  19. Misheard lyrics are some of the funniest things since the "Airplane" movies but I think that some claims of "misheard" lyrics are more appropriate termed "re-written" lyrics. I saw a book at the store once that had long lists of misheard lyrics, but many of them were just so different, phonically, from the real lyrics that it was nearly inconceivable that someone could have really thought they heard what was claimed. For example, funny as the imagery might be, I don't think someone really thought they heard, "Lucy's getting high with Linus," or "I've got owls puking in my bed"! The best "misheard" lyrics are the ones that someone actually thought they heard; not just what someone creatively mutated the real words to be, for fun. Now, my friend Chris listened to Rush's "Red Barchetta," and the line that goes, "A brilliant Red Barchetta from a better, vanished time," he thought was "Ten billion Red Barchettas are no better than this kind." I myself thought that in Rush's "Turn the Page," they were saying "shake our heads at the Chinese," instead of "shake our heads at the tragedy." Rush has a LOT of mishearable lyrics. - -Jeffrey "With tha thoughts of a militant mind... Hard line, hard line after hard line!"
  20. I don't think anyone can deny that these people historically have influenced music, and the musicians who came later. But I think that there is a difference between identifying who laid the groundwork and who actually then used it to be inspired and make great music. That's why I voted for Led Zeppelin. Yes, they had their influences (I am not an expert on the old-timey people and their influential music), but they made amazing music -- and on top of that, they themselves influenced many others. They were at a huge nexus of both influenced and influencial. "Oh, to ride the wind to tread the air above the din!" -Jeffrey -Jeffrey "With tha thoughts of a militant mind... 21. Let's leave the spiders alone and eradicate the fucking MOSQUITOS!!! I mean really, how bad off could the ecosystem be if mosquitos were extinctified? I think we could absorb the impact ecologically, even if some species of lizard and frog went extinct along with them. ANYTHING to get rid of the monsters we have buzzing around here at the various Florida DZs! Florida mosquitos don't take blood, they take BITES! - -Jeffrey "With tha thoughts of a militant mind... Hard line, hard line after hard line!"
  22. There are some good instances in which you should not buck the conventional way of doing things, and I think names are one of them. Fine if you favor an unconventional name, but at least go with the usual two! How does one handle having only a single name? Like you said, credit card companies demand two, eh? How about when you're filling out online forms, like paying bills online? Leave a field blank when it expects you to put something there and it's No-Go. What does your buddy do, put "Aaron" twice, once in the Last Name field and once in the First Name field? That would result in the system thinking his name is Aaron Aaron! There was a couple who made the news recently because they named their son after the father, but not with "junior" (I never cared for "junior" either, actually): they called him something like, "Joe.2" (Joe-point-two) like a software version. I thought it was pretty stupid, pretentious, and ostentatiously trying to be "trendy." What do you think? - -Jeffrey "With tha thoughts of a militant mind... Hard line, hard line after hard line!"
  23. DUDE!! Is your leg SUPPOSED to look like the stitches have split open like that?! The x-rays looked bad enough, but that last pic...! Good thing I wasn't eating when I saw that! So you're all better now? Good. What was the story with that peace-sign pic, though? - -Jeffrey "With tha thoughts of a militant mind... Hard line, hard line after hard line!"
  24. You know, I took the time to write out what I did mean, to counter whatsisname's accusation that I was just being out-and-out sexist and implying that I thought women couldn't be intellgent and articulate, and now you're in essence calling me a LIAR, and saying that you don't believe what I articulated to be my meaning in the prior post. So **** you for insinuating that my explanation is a lie. I don't owe an apology, since my initial statement contained no insult in the first place. No, but that one did, and it got you some time off. - -Jeffrey "With tha thoughts of a militant mind... Hard line, hard line after hard line!"
  25. Okay, so how does the fact that many rational people won't be swayed by the movie help us given that we know most of the population don't fall into that category? - -Jeffrey "With tha thoughts of a militant mind... Hard line, hard line after hard line!"
