wired news: marijuana heals brain/head trauma
BlackholeSon replied to marcandalysse's topic in The Bonfire
Excellent. Now, I can raise the twinky to my face with ease, savoring it's glorious innards and spongy cake goodness. ---------- Here's to cheating, stealing, fighting, and drinking. It helps to have some After Effects background too. About three years ago our production staff used After Effects for most 2d compositing and animation. Since the launch of Combustion I haven't looked back, especially with it's integration in Edit. Rendering nested effects directly into a timeline without leaving the editing platform is wicked cool. The Edit/Combustion integration is almost exactly like Discreet Smoke, thier nonlinear HD editing and compositing system. Except 200K cheaper, same keyer and same color correction too. It rocks. The text and particle effects in Combustion are worth it alone. What used to take hours in 3DS Max or even After Effects now takes only a few moments, ahem, plus rendering time. The courseware is like 45 bucks or so. Pick it up, you will love it!

At work I use a Discreet Edit 6 station with a Matrox Digisuite LE card. Discreet Combustion 2.1 for compositing. I ordered Combution 3 for three of our work stations today! It's gonna be sweet.

Quotewell the cypress fires at 750 ft roughly that is the automatic activation device used as a last ditch effort... i would say 500-750ft ..Quote Because while the "very bad dudes" are chasing our fictional character it would be best, during all possible action movie based scenarios, for our character to activate his cypres while presumably running at top speed in the wilderness. ---------- Here's to cheating, stealing, fighting, and drinking. I use a pair of Oakley Switchblades with my mindwarp. The mindwarp keeps them from flying off my face. I also use smoked flexvision goggles from time to time, but they fog up occasionally. ---------- Here's to cheating, stealing, fighting, and drinking. If you cheat, cheat death. First camera helmet? 2K Composites FF2?
BlackholeSon replied to BlackholeSon's topic in Photography and Video
Very cool. Thanks to both of you. Supergeil, you posted a few pics of your helmet on another thread, that is one sweet setup you got there. Is the CameyeII button located on the right side? If that's what I'm looking at, it looks convex, like the area around the button is raised up??? See pic attached...I hope you don't mind I used your picture for reference. -
Sounds like a long time. Flite Suit/Bomber Freefly is 6-8 weeks, and faster than that if you pay for a rush upgrade..... Yeah I guess, I wasn't in a hurry though. I could have put in a rush order and had it in six weeks, but my new rig was not finished anyway. ---------- Here's to cheating, stealing, fighting, and drinking. If you cheat, cheat death. I had a wonderful experience with Firefly. My full suit took only 10 weeks. Sherri was so incredible. She answered all my emails and had an answer for every question I could come up with the day we spoke. This was my first freefly suit, so it was crucial that everything be perfect. In fact, I had my measurements all screwed up on the form I had filled out prior to our phone conversation and she helped me out right over the phone. That was probably one of the most "interesting" phone calls I've had...well, except for a few 900# calls. j/k Anyway, keep trying you guys. I know it can be tuff sometimes, have a little patience...you won't be disappointed. This suit totally kicks ass!!! Here's my other review in the gear section: http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/gear/review.cgi?ID=337 ....and a pic of my suit is attached.

First camera helmet? 2K Composites FF2?
BlackholeSon replied to BlackholeSon's topic in Photography and Video
Let me say first, I'm not strapping a camera helmet onto my head anytime soon. However, I will admit that I have a keen interest in camera flying and I have begun the intense research this particular facet of our beautiful sport warrants. I approach this endeavor with the same methodology I use in regards to my safety and the safety of those I jump with. Okay. I've been in contact with two camera helmet companies and so far 2K Composites is at the top of my list. So, 2KC FF2 owners, I ask... 1.Do you feel as if the cutaway handle is too big? I understand the logic behind making it this size, i.e. two fingers with gloves on, but I'm curious about your overall impressions of the cutaway handle, it's functionality and the handle stability as freefly airspeeds increase. 2.What type of care and maintenance is recommended with this cutaway system? By the looks of the three-ring release, I would assume this system is treated much like main canopy risers. Would you routinely disassemble and flex the helmet release webbing as such? Anyone else have comments about this particular helmet? ---------- Here's to cheating, stealing, fighting, and drinking. If you cheat, cheat death. If you steal, steal a woman's heart. Hey Chris, what's up? Yeah, that sounds like it was a blast! Whose rig is that anyway? I'm not sure if you've seen the video, but a few years ago [enter alumni member name here] jumped the cutaway rig. There's a great shot of [enter alumni member name here] slipping and falling off the step at altitude, it freakin' hilarious! We've got the video captured here in KC...it would make for a very nice blooper reel. Nate ---------- Here's to cheating, stealing, fighting, and drinking. If you cheat, cheat death. I'm only aware of two companies that offer cutaway systems for their helmets, Bonehead and 2K Composites. I'm sure there are others though. Bonehead has a chin-cup cutaway mod for their Mindwarp, Optik, Gunner and Gun-Rak helmets. There is also a cutaway system that is specific to the Flat-Top Pro and Narrow helmets that uses an additional hinge that must be mounted to the helmet. http://www.boneheadcomposites.com/helmparts.htm 2K Composites has a chin-cup cutaway system available as well. No picture of it on the web page, see attachment. http://www.2kcomposites.com/html/accessories.html ---------- Here's to cheating, stealing, fighting, and drinking. If you cheat, cheat death. I can't remember shit either, but that's another story. However, I own both a Z1 and a mindwarp. The mindwarp is the older style with external pocket. I've never really heard my audible well enough...like stated above, you have to be listening for it. On the otherhand, when I started jumping my Z1 I could hear it no problem. I loved it. As of late I can't hear it for shit. I've even tried adjusting it inside the helmet to no avail. Maybe I'm loosing my hearing? Someone mentioned I might be deaf to high pitched tones, not so if I can hear it on the ground. Which I can, so what the hell? ---------- Here's to cheating, stealing, fighting, and drinking. What I would like to know is if the DVD will be region 0? Hope so. Very rough translation here...hey, it was free. ***"At last available in DVD! The "Soul Flyers Team" is a team of pals that manages the delicate positions with a good dose d’instinct and a direction of rather developed l’air. Val, Claud, Zoune and Loïc have each a specialty and the divisions with the team to realize pictures to cut the breath: the desert of Namibie, the excessive nature of the Meeting and the snowy slopes of the swiss Alpes are as much settings qu’ils signed dune track invisible, by the wake of their flares and the trajectory of their wingsuits. The numerous basic sequences again more wise up. And then there is the flight époustouflant of Loïc in wingsuit. It affine d’abord his technique while brushing France l’Équipe of sail contact in formation. It then ready for the flight more unbelievable: on a dome covered in snow to Verbier, his shadow testifies dune seizing proximity... I've never had a turkey dog before, but I did try a turkey burger once. I swear, it could've gagged a maggot. Not to hijack your thread here sunnydee, but I gotta ask. ccowden, yo. I have only been head down three times stable at this point. I have only one FF coach jump for head down flying. I would say I've got a good physical and mental grasp on barrel rolls and remaining stable in a head down position. I've never thought about turning my palms upward at all, heard it mentioned before though. Here's my Q. Do you think in by turning your palms upward it would have more of an effect on your flying as far as just being relaxed? Or is it an actual aerodynamic change whereby air affects your hips and legs differently, becoming more efficient for head down flying? I imagine it would be yes to both, curious though. Thanks dood.

Infinity Camera (online) Experience
BlackholeSon replied to INSANEDADDY's topic in Photography and Video
INSANEDADDY, If it's a pc-120 you're after, check out B&H Photo Video. I've ordered from them in the past. The video post-production facility I work for has ordered from them as well with no problems at all. The camera is a bit more $$$, but you'd still be saving IMO. I've been looking at a pc-120 and the 2KC FF2. http://www.bhphotovideo.com/bnh/controller/home?O=productlist&A=details&Q=&sku=239662&is=REG ---------- Here's to cheating, stealing, fighting, and drinking. Amen to that bruthah! Yeah, I always look around while the plane approaches jump run. It's something I've integrated into my own list of jump procedures...check my gear, get checked myself, and check the people around me. Fortunately I've never noticed anything too terribly out of the ordinary. Occasionally I find a riser tuck flap un-tucked or a main flap undone, I just let'em know what I see and help out if need be. ---------- Here's to cheating, stealing, fighting, and drinking. Whats the #1 skydive of your life?
BlackholeSon replied to Caseadilla's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
First stable head down dive. It was at Couch Freaks 2003. I got some coaching from this dude I met in the loading tent, I thanked him profusely after a weekend of solos. Jim, if you're out there, you rule buddy! I'll never forget it, it was my next to last jump on Monday morning 9/1. I was last out on that load and jumped into a big beautiful blue sky...it had been overcast all weekend. Sit exit, got to terminal, barrel roll...horizon, sky down, held heading. I'll never forget the sound, it was different. Like being inside a capsule of quiet air. It was sweet! All I could think was "No f'ing way dude!!! I'm f'ing doing it!" I was laughing all the way down. ---------- Here's to cheating, stealing, fighting, and drinking. If you cheat, cheat death. If you steal, steal a woman's heart. If you fight, fight for a brother. First I'd like to say this. I can probably assume some of us around here have seen the results of mixing low jump numbers with higher wing loadings. It can sometimes be a frightful combination. Pegasus, I don't know your canopy progression. I've never even seen you fly, but please if you haven't already done so...have a chat with your s&ta. They will know what's best, but still be aware that anyone can misjudge your abilities. Anyway, that is a very nice rig you got there...and such a pretty smile to go with it too!

This is a very slow falling suit in both sitflying and head down. I was amazed at how little I had to use my legs while wearing this suit for head down flying, just roll on over and enjoy the view. At first, sitflying was a bit of a hurdle as far as learning to control my fall rate, but after a few times I got used to it. In a neutral sit position with my back straight, arms back slightly and legs at 90 degrees, I average about 150mph @ 200lbs out the door. For me, the slower airspeeds have equated to better control while freeflying and a few more precious seconds of airtime. I wouldn't trade my Firefly for the world. -fly free
