skydiving oxygen system legality?
adamUK replied to pchapman's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Is pure oxygen used or is it just air enriched with oxygen? We had oxygen systems at work and they had to be cleaned and degreased prior to commissioning to prevent fire. That would be too onerous for aircraft based systems? I thought oxygen was toxic at high concentrations? -
Have you lived in France? Spent any time in Europe at all? Just asking.

Help please!! Uk skydiving.co.uk has disappeared!!!
adamUK replied to Rankin82's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Unfortunately the cops aren't going to give a monkey's arse. Your best bet is to go through trading standards however this process is very slow. I did this with this bunch of shysters: http://www.bview.co.uk/listing/1673604/1st-Parts-4-U-in-PR6 and got my money back eventually. There's a lot of this on moneysavingexpert.co.uk (http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/forumdisplay.php?s=0df31fb71eef42889e9b1c470c7ad44d&f=173). You might be able to get better advice there. I feel for ya. I thought I'd lost 600 notes but it all worked out in the end. Edited to add: It's trading standards that prosecute companies for fraud, etc, not the police. The company that did me got prosecuted eventually and taken out of business. -

I say the letter is bogus. The address they have given is a PO box at the post office, no company exists on the companies house website and as a minimum any limited company or limited liability partnership must have the following info as a legal minimum on their letters (http://www.companieshouse.gov.uk/promotional/busStationery.shtml) that I'd also check up with the institute of chartered accountants (http://www.icaewfirms.co.uk/) to see if either Harvey Black or 'Mason & Pringle' are bone-fide administrators (althogh the letter states he's a 'pre-administration manager' whatever that means. -

Pay off this millstone of a mortgage! That and the recession kept me out of the sport for a few years Other than that leave the rat race in the cosmetics industry, move to a small village in France right on the coast, rent an idyllic house and absorb the sunshine and good vibes (sexism aside, of course)

I didn't pay a thing at Peterlee. Just a few beers and several cups of tea but it's a pretty informal place.

Sounds unlikely as software errors are rare but the unit could be faulty. If you've got time send it to L&B and they'll send you a replacement. Their customer service is so legendary you might get sent one before you send yours off back to them. And they might send you flowers too.

The problem with 1st time rigs is that they get snapped up really quickly as there are so few available in ol' Blighty and that keeps the prices high. Reckon you'll not get a rig for anything less than £2000. Can you get some overtime in?

Do I win a prize? Box of wine would be most welcome.

Can you go back to the original DZ you jumped at or where you did your AFF? If you're a known quantity then it might just be a checkout jump. If it's a brand new DZ then who knows? Is there a wind tunnel near you? That'd get you back some of the feel of freefall. There's a lot of other stuff that you might be rusty on too, e.g. packing so it'd be worth going through those things again with someone. Welcome back

Since the 2 bottles either side are empty I'd say $10?

High performance canopy data for Wikipedia
adamUK replied to adamUK's topic in Swooping and Canopy Control
Hi, Being the public-spirited person that I am I thought I'd update the data on parachute canopy performance characteristics on this page (about 2/3rds of the way down) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Speed_flying I don't have data for: Max Glide Ratio Speed Range Aspect Ratio Range The current data for parachutes are as follows: Max Glide Ratio: 3:1 Speed Range: 25–70 km/h (15–45 mph) Aspect Ratio Range: 2:1–3:1 I know things have moved on in the world of canopy piloting so if anyone has better data then could you post here (and give any references if you can) Many thanks Adam. -
NEWSFLASH: Also today, new research indicates that rain is wet, bears defecate in forested areas and the pope is a catholic...

Just a thought Nat, was the Euro 2012 final on the same day or something? Was he a bit worse for wear when he picked you up?

There are many EU directives to combat discrimination right back to 1976. It's not socially acceptable in France as it is in any other EU nation state. As always, though, people take time to adjust and the French do occasionally have a habit of ignoring rules they don't like.

I like asymmetric configurations myself.

Opportunity: US & UK ex-military & current Reservists
adamUK replied to aphid's topic in Speakers Corner
We took on a guy who'd come out of the Royal Artillery after a couple of tours of Iraq and found him to be really good. We'd certainly consider ex-servicemen (and women) in future. -
I emailed Sandy Kimball at Aerodyne a similar question as I liked the look of the ZPX material but the pack volume would be lower than my container would comfortably hold. An excerpt of her reply was: Cheers Adam.
