  1. Sector 10 rocks! Well that's were all my friends are... "We've been looking for the enemy for some time now. We've finally found him. We're surrounded. That simplifies things." CP
  2. Honestly, at my DZ jumpers who show up on a regular basis after getting their A have no shortage of mentorship. It's the guys that show up every 6 weeks for a couple of hours that no one knows and complain that nobody is teaching them that are the problem. "We've been looking for the enemy for some time now. We've finally found him. We're surrounded. That simplifies things." CP
  3. Um, I don't know what kind of aircraft you're jumping out of but I've never seen handles be a problem on Otters or Caravan's on an AFF count. No ones handles get scraped on anything. Only the student is moving up and down and it is only an inch or two, just enough to give good guidance to the AFFI's that the exit is about to occur. I just do not see a large-scale problem here. Can you describe in detail this problem you perceive? "We've been looking for the enemy for some time now. We've finally found him. We're surrounded. That simplifies things." CP
  4. No he just hates the "uncool" ones. "We've been looking for the enemy for some time now. We've finally found him. We're surrounded. That simplifies things." CP
  5. And what makes you think this is a good thing? Skydiving right beside: ELEPHANT PROCTOLOGIST – self explanatory AIR FORCE SUCKER - A crewman takes a wrong step and is sucked into the engine of a jet plane. PILOT PERIL - An air show comes to a crashing halt as two Russian pilots collide in mid-air, their planes careening to the ground in flames. LIFEGUARD TRAINING UP IN FLAMES - During a demonstration, a lifeguard sets fire to a boat, accidentally blowing it up -- with him still in it! "We've been looking for the enemy for some time now. We've finally found him. We're surrounded. That simplifies things." CP
  6. You might take a look at what the SIM recommends in terms of jump numbers before jumping a camera. If I recall it has some explanation on why too. Best of luck to you. Blues, Ron (the nicely dressed one) "We've been looking for the enemy for some time now. We've finally found him. We're surrounded. That simplifies things." CP
  7. I’ve got to say that I have a lot of respect for how Jay and Rob have worked together recently. I’ve been the beneficiary of both Rob’s SDU coaching classes and Jay’s AFFI course, with Rob acting as an examiner. Both of these guys know how to teach! I don’t have enough time tonight to expound on their virtues but their efforts to advance the art and science of instructing serve us all well. "We've been looking for the enemy for some time now. We've finally found him. We're surrounded. That simplifies things." CP
  8. Based on a number of your posts it sounds like you are thinking about buying some used gear? "We've been looking for the enemy for some time now. We've finally found him. We're surrounded. That simplifies things." CP
  9. LOL! You're a bad man Ron. Blues, Ron (the well dressed one!) "We've been looking for the enemy for some time now. We've finally found him. We're surrounded. That simplifies things." CP
  10. I get end cell closures on most jumps. Dont worry about it. You can clear them by using your rear risers if you don't want to unstow your brakes right away. Be careful though and unstow your brakes above your hard deck! "We've been looking for the enemy for some time now. We've finally found him. We're surrounded. That simplifies things." CP
  11. Try looking for “hotel check”. It is a pretty standard term/technique used in AFF for two jumpmaster dives. The specifics of the response are not particularly important, just an affirmative response. I’ve been doing a lot of AFF jumps being the outside instructor on an Otter recently. I’m hanging outside of the plane in the wind so the student probably won’t hear me if I say anything. I let the students know on the ground that I will lean over and make eye contact with them and nod. "We've been looking for the enemy for some time now. We've finally found him. We're surrounded. That simplifies things." CP
  12. I have some degree of fear on a regular basis. The more I jump the less I have. I’ll go weeks without a single twinge of fear and then have weekends were it won’t go away. It doesn’t stop me form jumping, I just learn to deal with it. this past Saturday I was apprehensive my first two jumps but by my 5th I didn’t have an fear or apprehension at all. If your going to become a skydiver you’ll have these issues. Part of what I like about skydiving is it allows us to overcome our fears and do things most people will never even try. 13. Yeah, it's $8.99 on Amazon http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0000696I9/qid=1136583590/sr=11-1/ref=sr_11_1/103-8621566-7821446?n=130 "We've been looking for the enemy for some time now. We've finally found him. We're surrounded. That simplifies things." CP
  14. And he used to claim to be a musician too. Well, a rapper not so much a musician. "We've been looking for the enemy for some time now. We've finally found him. We're surrounded. That simplifies things." CP
  15. First get that idea out of your head! You're a pretty typical age. "We've been looking for the enemy for some time now. We've finally found him. We're surrounded. That simplifies things." CP
  16. I liked the note in the add, something to the effect of "Since 1993" Yeah, I know the story but still. Personally, I think competition is good in the AAD market. However, I going with tried and true technology. "We've been looking for the enemy for some time now. We've finally found him. We're surrounded. That simplifies things." CP

QuoteDo i need to take out a second mortgage or is it affordable? Quote LOL! It's Disney of course you need to take out a second mortgage! I hope you've got a lot of equity in your home too! 18. Hey Ron, good description of a braked approach for accuracy. How about you elaborate on the effects on the flare at different levels of brake and maybe a little about the design of an accuracy canopy. "We've been looking for the enemy for some time now. We've finally found him. We're surrounded. That simplifies things." CP
  19. Shooting accuracy certainly comes to mind. Also, extremely tight demos and landing uot in dicey spots. I've done all 3 and enjoy having a few extra square feet over my head for those events. Big canopies are safer than small canopies. Agreed. I didn’t think his question was particularly specific to accuracy landing, but more of a general everyday landing question. A good explanation for his question about “can big canopies be dangerous for braked landings” would be to go into detail on the typical size and make of an accuracy canopy and how it is flown. Personally, I don’t know enough about accuracy canopies to do this in a meaningful way. In our student program we teach in detail a half-braked approach and landing, which is of course on the A-license card. It’s a good demonstration of why speed is important for flare. Nothing like thudding in once because you don’t get any lift on the bottom end to explain the importance of speed to lift conversion. "We've been looking for the enemy for some time now. 20. So, you live in a cave? "We've been looking for the enemy for some time now. We've finally found him. We're surrounded. That simplifies things." CP
  21. None taken. "We've been looking for the enemy for some time now. We've finally found him. We're surrounded. That simplifies things." CP
  22. Just a guess here as I’m just now learning about this stuff. I don’t think the MLW could be shortened. If it were the laterals could not be attached at the right point. I thought the MLW was a bit long on my rig but after talking to an experienced rigger he explained to me that it had to be that way to accommodate the laterals. It does appear the leg straps need to be rotated forward a bit which should take the low kink out of the MLW, assuming the laterals are long enough. As for the handles, it’s a bit hard to tell but they don’t look unreasonably positioned, but I do think rotating the leg pads to their proper place will move them forward a bit. But then what do I know…. "We've been looking for the enemy for some time now. We've finally found him. We're surrounded. That simplifies things." CP
  23. Hmm, I'm going to take a screen shot of that one and hang it in my office! "We've been looking for the enemy for some time now. We've finally found him. We're surrounded. That simplifies things." CP
  24. Me too. A wise man once told me that we all have two chances to die on every skydive. The first is on takeoff; we trust our lives to the pilots and maintenance staff here. The second chance to die on a skydive is more obvious. I’ve changed my behavior in skydiving. I make sure I jump where I am comfortable with the planes and the pilots. You can’t always tell if everything is okay and s*** just happens sometimes but if I have doubts I trust me doubts. I don’t need to get on a plane at a bandit DZ with marginally qualified pilots and planes held together with gaffers tape. At my home DZ, I know the maintenance is above and beyond the minimum requirements, I know the pilots are some of the most qualified in the business. I hug my pilots on a regular basis, as I trust my life to them 15 times a week. "We've been looking for the enemy for some time now. We've finally found him. We're surrounded. 25. We have a target, each person says how far they landed from it. It's pretty easy to walk off two big paces. "We've been looking for the enemy for some time now. We've finally found him. We're surrounded. That simplifies things." CP
