A really graphic Picture Skydiving?

Yes, it was taken in an emergency room where I do believe you have the right to privacy. That was my point. -
A really graphic Picture Skydiving?
LGreg34 replied to Kid_Icarus's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I have seen that picture and frankly, it really pissed me off. First, I want to know why it's not against the law to take pictures of someone in an emergency room in a such a state that it would be impossible to give their permission to take that picture. Second, I have 16 jumps and only 7 of them are recent. A "friend" who doesn't like the idea of me sky diving sent it to me, and let's face it, it's a pretty jolting picture. I didn't appreciate recieving it and I told him it was in very poor taste! Other than that, I know nothing about the details of it. Just needed to blow off a little steam about it. -
Sky Diving after Tyroid Surgery?
LGreg34 replied to LGreg34's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Thank You Bob, I've been a little out of sorts over this so I've been kind of quiet. Thanks again for downsizing my picture for me. I appreciate it. I'll get in touch at the end of the week or over the weekend to let you know that everything is alright. -
Sky Diving after Tyroid Surgery?

Lol..........Thank you for the information and I understand about making your lawyer happy! Okay, I have now had replies by a Med Student and a Doctor, so I will not be paranoid about this. Thank You!! -
Sky Diving after Tyroid Surgery?
LGreg34 replied to LGreg34's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I have to have Thyroid Surgery this coming Wednesday. Definite removal of the right lower lobe and possibly total removal of the thyroid depending on the biopsy that will be ran while I'm still on the table. I ran across a post here about giving blood and skydiving and within that post there was a long excerpt from a Brittish (I believe) manual talking about people with Thyroid problems being unfit for sky diving. Do any medical people here know why? I put in a call to my Specialist's office, they called me back saying they knew nothing of why it would affect me sky diving (which disconcerted me somewhat). I told them that this wasn't heresay, it was actually in some sort of manual, but didn't explain why. I take it that it has to do with altitude..........does anyone know? I am a very low time jumper and feel the need to be as safe as possible. My Specialist told me that I should be able to jump aprox 2 weeks after this surgery, but I surely don't want to go up if there is the slightest chance of passing out. -
Okay...........what does anyone know about Skydiving and Thyroid problems? I have to have Thyroid surgery next Wednesday (lower right lobe removed at least, and possibly all of it depending on pathology at the time). I was going to jump this weekend to finish up my AFF jumps but have to have some blood work done today to prepare for the surgery. What do you think?

Only 3..........yes, living in the north and being a little too spoiled to jump at 50' sucks!! I don't know, my attitude toward the cold may change once I'm more comfortable in the air. I'm planning to take the day off Friday (it's actually suppose to be in the mid 70's) and try to get some jumps in, but now they're saying "Winds Gusting to 30mph" on Friday; I'm so pissed!! I've only got a few more jumps to finish up my student status and I want to get them in this weekend because I have to have thyroid surgery next Wednesday and won't be able to jump for a few MORE weeks!! Damn the luck!
-
Lol..........Yep, it definitely looks that way!!

Thank You, I'm glad. I just can't seem to get over it.........lol. There was a moment, when the camera guy rose up (I know he didn't "rise", but slowed himself down somehow so that I was passing him) by my left side standing up, looking at me and it was like "WOW" how's he doin that, he should be falling faster then me in that position!! It brought a HUGE smile to my face! We were passing by the tip of a cloud so there was a wispy mist around us. It was unbelivably surreal!! Lol.........passing by the tip of a cloud.........yahooo! Thanks for the reply. It's encouraging.

Finally had the weather to get back in the air for AFF 4 and 5!!
-
Wow! Thank you so much! I do sincerely appreciate it.

Thank You Sid. I appreciate the info very much. I'm not sure why they taught flat packing instead of Pro Packing and was still too ignorant to know that one was better than the other. Thanks again, very much.
-
Thank You! I went to the site and printed out the check list on Pro Packing, but I'm learning to Flat Pack first. Emailed Sid to ask about a check list on that. Thanks Again!! I love this site......so many helpful people.
-
I took a packing class yesterday and I'm wondering if there is a "checklist" in existance, just to be sure that I don't miss or forget a step. I'm going back today, just to do it over and over again. There weather here in Indiana is still too cold (and it's been very windy) to jump. I'm willing to make one myself, but just wondered if anyone knew of one online that could be printed out.

Exactly, and lets face it, if a kid is really curious, they WILL find a way to get into things, locked or not. Therefore, education is absolutely necessary IMO.

I am single. I own two and am licensed to carry a concealed weapon. One Smith and Wesson revolver, one Browning BT99 for trap shooting. My place of business is in a not so great side of town and we have been broken into or vandalized several times. That's why I got the license to carry. I wasn't about to walk into that office alone first thing in the morning, someone still be there and not have some form of defense. I have no desire to be a victem of any sort. I'm glad this was brought up because it reminds me that I need to go practice!! I also trap shoot when I can find someone to go with me (not often enough). The hand thrown deals don't much appeal to me (not enough challenge) but going to a gun club is a lot of fun! I do think it is important to know how to carry and use weapons safely. When my kids were young (4 and 7 at the time), their father and I took them out, filled up a 5 gallon bucket with water and shot it with a 44 magnum, just to show them the effect, and to exemplify the fact that there can be no mistakes. They are not toys and can be deadly!! After that, periodically, at the dinner table, we would go over scenarios such as: "what would you do if you were over at a friend's house, their parents weren't home, and your friend brought out a gun to "show" everyone"? My children are now 20 and 23. We had NO occurances of non respect of deadly weapons. My point being, if you are going to have weapons in the house and have children, you MUST teach them repect of those weapons as early as possible.

How much did you spend on skydiving last year?
LGreg34 replied to pccoder's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Dear God!!! You guys are bummin me out!! Shit! I don't think I can afford this sport! Still have to finish AFF, buy a rig and all the trimmings.........Wow! Don't know how I'll get through it..........but I will! -
Welcome Back! Sorry the weather didn't cooperate for you. I did a tandem jump in Playa Del Carmen the end of January while I was there. Check the thread Skydiving in Mexico, oh, and the Continuation thread. The beach jump was amazingly beautiful
-
Oh, did you see my thread on Skydiving in Mexico? Did I tell you I made a jump while down there on vaction? I did a tandem, I haven't got my own equipment, or my license for that matter, so I did a tandem and landed on the clothing optional beach in Playa Del Carmen..........it was great!! The scenery was absolutely amazing!

It's slated to open March 20th. Lol.......I have a new plan. I have "volunteered" to work as a part time "stand in" in manifest. Nothing scheduled, but if someone wants a day off, they will ask if I can work it. Workin my way into "the loop" you might say. That way I can get to know everyone quicker. There's a meeting Feb 28th for employees, and if by chance the weather is suitable, we're all going to go make a jump........yahoo!

Hi Dave, Thank you for including me in your post. My daughter, age 23, will not even go WATCH her brother race or watch me jump ......lol. She said that if she saw anything happen to either of us, it would be the end of her. She is probably the most sane of my little family. She's a classical violinist studying the perfroming arts, and you know how those musicians are.........lol. Great picture of you and your daughter! Fort Bragg got into us all didn't it. Watching mass jumps was quite a beautiful sight with all those parachutes in the air, equipment drops......somehow it seems to get into your blood and you never get over it.
-
Lol.........yes it will be! Be sure to get a video with the two of you on the same load. I'm so glad I shared the experience with my son. I went out first because I didn't think my heart could stand watching him exit, he exited last of about 6 I think. I walked (ran) up to him after he landed and I got the biggest hug ever! We went home, went out on the lake, and spent the afternoon talking about it. Was was sincerely a precious moment. We will both remember it always.

Thank You! Well, actually, he made a 10 second delay jump. They didn't offer tandems then, but, he did go with me in August and made a tandem jump. He is in college and also drives race cars (Midgets and Silver Crown Cars). He told me that I put adrenaline into his veins before he was born, so I'm probably responsible.......lol.

Hello, ex paratrooper! I made my first jumps at Fort Bragg with the 82nd Airborne Jump Club, 21 years ago. My ex husband was a paratrooper at the time. He and his buddies would get together and talk about their jumps and the energy level in the room would sky rocket. It was then that I knew I had to try it. Made 5 SL jumps and 4 freefalls. Got to a 10 sec delay and found out I was pregnant. Made my last jump pregnant and didn't know it. Well, that was the end of that until this past June. My children are now grown and both in college and I felt that I could get back into it now..........there's nothing like it! I live in Indidna and can't wait until spring. I'm on AFF 4 but will have to repeat at least one jump after the winter off........oh well! Welcome!!

Continuation of Sky Diving in Mexico
LGreg34 replied to LGreg34's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Many thanks to all that gave me info on Jumping in Playa Del Carmen. I did a tandem there since I only had 13 jumps to my credit and don't have a license yet. It was GREAT! It was the smallest plane I've ever jumped from, a C-182. I've jumped from Hueys and Caravans, so the exit was different than I've experienced, and we had a bit of a slow opening. It took about 8 seconds. I looked up and the slider wasn't coming down; I thought, oh shit, this might be my first cut away (my own paranoia)! Victor, my tandem guy, pumped the brakes a few times and it did come down
