Chest strap almost hits neck and chin on deployment
djmarvin replied to kgp4death's topic in Gear and Rigging
You can send the rig into the manufacturer to get it adjusted. Usually not too expensive and you will end up with a rig that fits you well. DJ Marvin AFF I/E, Coach/E, USPA/UPT Tandem I/E http://www.theratingscenter.com -
For the most part I believe this is true, but do you realky think it is 100% true. I have seen several dz.comers over the years show up to the DZ and never have an in face conversation with anyone about the topic they had on here. I agree we can all be more polite about reminding them to talk to their instructor. DJ Marvin AFF I/E, Coach/E, USPA/UPT Tandem I/E http://www.theratingscenter.com

How many jumps in six weeks?
djmarvin replied to lupinelacuna's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
So if it's good enough for a politician, it's good enough for you :) not knocking either your RD or Lodi, just pointing out the fun side of your comment. DJ Marvin AFF I/E, Coach/E, USPA/UPT Tandem I/E http://www.theratingscenter.com -
Skydive Houston or Skydive Spaceland
djmarvin replied to MirageSkydiver's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Experienced Jumpers at Spaceland are asked to leave a credit card for the day and then are charged out at the end of their jumping. If you do not jump you simply pick up your card and nothing has been charged. DJ Marvin AFF I/E, Coach/E, USPA/UPT Tandem I/E http://www.theratingscenter.com -
Another D License / Night Jump / Tandem Question
djmarvin replied to MBiegs's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
One requirement for a Tandem Rating is a D license. So if you are doing Tandems you probably no longer need the night jump requirements. DJ Marvin AFF I/E, Coach/E, USPA/UPT Tandem I/E http://www.theratingscenter.com -

What does 'Peel' stand for in (some) EP's ?
djmarvin replied to rhopstr's topic in Safety and Training
The period part is not true. It is true that pulling a velcroed handle is much more difficult, however it is possible to pull the handle without peeling it. I have witnessed more than incident where the jumper was not able to pull the handle (in both cases the jumper was ok and on the ground found how easy it was to pull their handles when peeling first). I recommend everyone pulls their handles when they have their reserves repacked. Try pulling it straight down without peeling and then try peeling it first and see the difference. I'm going to take a guess (and probably wrong), but based off of TX and 23 A license package. You may be talking about Spaceland. If that is the case the 23 jump package will get you to your "A" license. You end with 25 jumps, the 23 jump "A" package is after 2 tandems which brings your total to 25. Depends on what you have. Small stows don't hold tight enough so I have to double wrap large bands. Have been since 98 and so far so good DJ Marvin AFF I/E, Coach/E, USPA/UPT Tandem I/E http://www.theratingscenter.com

Incorrect. Thank you for such a thorough response. I stand corrected since the DZ does not need to be a Group Member since they can also just pay the class 3 group member fee and still be ok. In the AIC, now the IERC I was told that courses must be run at a G.M. DZ. I have not seen any information that has changed that since then. I have had more than one Board Member tell me the same thing (all of them current I/E's and on the Safety and Training Committee) I have also seen a few people who received ratings, that are current and valid, but did not follow proper protocol. I can drink and drive all year long, it still doesn't make it legal just because no one says nothing to me. Merry Christmas everyone!! Yes the courses need to be held at a USPA Group Member DZ. Marcus Laser runs Instructor Academy based in Europe so he may be the most affordable Examiner to get to your DZ. http://www.instructorsacademy.com/ DJ Marvin AFF I/E, Coach/E, USPA/UPT Tandem I/E http://www.theratingscenter.com

Ditto Some one in the original thread mentioned why not let it go further, the drogue is out so terminal is not an issue. Consider the force generated by the drogue and stress it put on the tandem student and/or instructor's legs. If I were this T-I I would have wanted to get the drogue out long before the camera guy gave him room to. Hopefully those folks learned from their mistakes and so should we. Today would be Dennis' 62 birthday. In honor of Dennis, his son, Eric Anderson, released his ashes at Skydive Spaceland on a beautiful sunset load. Dennis Anderson's Final Jump Eric Anderson DJ Marvin Alex O'Connor Rory Corrigan Valerie Marvin Hank Prewitt Matt Bessonette Bostone Hartley Trent Alkek Steve Boyd Jr. Video: Ori Kuper JP Furnari Roo Kaiserman There were many more people there to honor Dennis from the ground or from the air on their own jumps. Thank you to everyone for paying their respects and honoring one of the greatest men I've ever had the pleasure of knowing. Blue Skies Dennis! Congratulations to Bart Stonestreet (BartRN on dz.com) for completing his UPT and USPA Tandem Instructor Rating. Bart also got to take his first three students this weekend and did a great job! I got to take Bart on his first tandem (as a student) just over three years ago and here is a picture of him getting ready to take me on his first tandem (as an instructor). http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=448340721993&set=a.389922556993.179747.245002841993&ref=nf DJ Marvin AFF I/E, Coach/E, USPA/UPT Tandem I/E http://www.theratingscenter.com

It goes under both. Some manufacturers do not use both, but VSE cuts theirs in a way that allows it to go under both allowing maximum protection, but still allowing a smooth clean channel for the risers to leave through. Choice of Handle - The Facts (Plastic vs. Freefly vs. Hackey)

Over time the top keeper can "stretch" or "wear". Have your rigger look at it. I just threw a stitch line inside the existing stitch line and that tightened mine up enough that I haven't had the problem since. (it doesn't take much, the new stitch line is immediately next to the exitsting one) DJ Marvin AFF I/E, Coach/E, USPA/UPT Tandem I/E http://www.theratingscenter.com
