  1. the truth has been revealed in previous posts. still, from just looking at the pictures: i work on the visual effects industry and my take on this is: BOGUS!!!!!!!!!! Visual effects giveaways: - pic 1 - the texturing seems too cg-like on the tail ruddsr/stabiliser, - pic 2 - nice comp!: nice vapour, at least as a still frame. this is what helps sell a comp, environmental interaction between cg, environment (smke, fog, frelections) and live footage. -pic 3- The most obvious giveaway is the glass on pic 3. It's what we call a pre-comp. This glass still lacks it's real-life characteristica like reflections, refractions. For now it's a transparent white layer! This HAS to be work in progress. And usually I'd guess a sky replacement is in the way for the final comp as well. -pic 4- check out the shadow of the airplane vs. the shadow of the guy in the green vest running away from it. do they seem to be in the same light environment to you? to me they did the shadow for the cg plane a bit too black. this would probably still pass in a final comp. no-one has the time to analyse such things real time while watching a movie, and compositors/wisual effects supervisors know it, so the get away with these incongruencies as long as they don't look to obvious. Aerodinamics/technical giveaways (and I'm no expert, but we all kind of know a bit about this): - pic 1 - the control surfaces atr on the leading edge of the wing? seems to me like they could get flipped over. - pic 2- air intakes for the engines seem a bit small to my eyes - pic 3 -what the heck is behind the cockpit cover? That's not an air intake, but much rather an airflow-disturbing design "feature" -where's the hinge for the cockpit cover? - pic 4 - the guys in the FG aren't wearing ear-covers - not likely... -- Be careful giving advice. 2. That's a good point. I beleive it's also why they both pulled main instead of reserve. However, I beleive that after this has happened to someone close to me, now if I should ever find myself in such a position (and I really don't plan to), then I have a bit of a better chance of going for the reserve, just because I have been thinking about this for 3 days straight. It's also the reason for my post - to get people to give this a thought. The more we know before an emergency, the better we might deal with it. I love the signature of one of the people who posts here: "I wonder how many lives have been saved because dropzone.com exists?" (or something similar) -- Be careful giving advice. 3. On saturday a friend of mine and her freefly instructor lost track of altitude. As a result they both had their cypres fire on them as they were pulling their main. The instructor landed both canopies (don't know what configuration). Her canopies went into a downplane from which she cut away at an estimated 400ft according to an eyewitness I spoke to on the ground. She was reaching up to get the toggles when she hit the ground. VERY fortunately she came out of it totally unharmed, not a scratch. When discussing this with somebody today, I heard that the only lesson to be learnt was "don't lose track of altitude" and "don't trust your life to an audible." I want to share my point of view that the other very important lesson is "When you're low go straight for your reserve, not your main". I really don't want to imagine what would have happened if she had cut away a split second later, or if her main and reserve had entangled. *please* don't post if you're going to flame her or the instructor for having lost track of altitude. My intention in posting here is to discuss the subject of having a hard deck and sticking to it. Of course she knows that if they didn't put themselves in that situation in the first place this discussion would not take place. PS I have no accurate info on whether he was wearing audibles, she was but didn't hear it. -- Be careful giving advice. Wise men don't need it, and fools won't heed it.
  4. Glad it worked out ok. I was in the same plane as you and didn´t hear of this until now. -- Be careful giving advice. Wise men don't need it, and fools won't heed it.
  5. the one in bellefeullie (just across the highway from st jerome) is called ParaVision, I beleive atmosphair is closer to quebec city -- Be careful giving advice. Wise men don't need it, and fools won't heed it.

  7. Last year i lived north of Montreal and the closest DZ there is Para Vision A really nice and friendly bunch of people! That DZ is very near St Jerome. I don't know where St Jean is at, but if it's not far from Para Vision, I strongly reccommend the place and people there. Chester (Eric) -- Be careful giving advice. 8. amen to everything Dom said great great stuff makes it all the harder to be back at work thanks everybody - this was a very good event chester -- Be careful giving advice. Wise men don't need it, and fools won't heed it.
  9. $580 this included 15 jumps all above 15000ft with oxigen, a t-shirt, the cost of bringing the plane captains and aircraft (in short everything). in the end only on one jump we didn't get to 15000 (weather) we had one climb to altitude and landed with aircraft, and we also had 2 (if I remember well) jumps over 20000 - amazing how long those last... gotta check my protrack, but i think i got to 97 and 101 seconds (unofficial until i check my protrack...) this was for 3 days (FRI-SAT-SUN) we got a $60 refund per person after we made a few less jumps than originally planned (edited to include the refund line) -- Be careful giving advice. 11. that is among other things, what i do for a living will be happy to give it a shot when i get home next week
  12. speaking of alcohol... im drinking 18 year glennfiddich (or however that's spelled) niiiice!!! normally i don't really like whiskey that much, but this is good... particularly after a week of 14-16 hour days work... on a turkish sci-fi movie in istanbul (go figure...) 3 days to go and then i'm off to see my beautiful loved one in berlin sweeeeeet! ok, this kind of talk should be taking place in the bonfire, but... what the heck, i'm kind of dunrk after a loooong shift, and looking forward to a bit of sleep
  13. "the fountainhead" by ayn rand a pretty polemic one too - people either love it or hate it -- Be careful giving advice. Wise men don't need it, and fools won't heed it.
  14. hey Wendy, get well soon! broken bones suck... on the brighter side, at least you can watch people land from your window - I've been working all weekend (night shift!) so no swoops to be seen outside of my window. anyway, hope you can jump again soon -- Be careful giving advice. Wise men don't need it, and fools won't heed it.
  15. hmm... bring more mezcal... SURE!!!! (as long as we get to watch you eat the worm, that is) at first it was kind of like "ok, we should bring the coaches a bottle of tequila or mezcal so they'll remember us" by now our carry-ons are always packed with alcohol for coaches, dzo's, video guys, manifest, and everybody's drinkin' up! what started out as a innocent way not to be forgotten is now becoming a tradition - cool! count on your mezcal, buddy! -- Be careful giving advice. Wise men don't need it, and fools won't heed it.
  16. This was my first 100+ way I enjoyed it a lot! I beleive I was the person with the least jumps, (327 coming into the event) still I didn't blow it (good thing, 'cause I was docking on BJ Worth, and Larry Henderson was docking on me!). The view from the last trail plane on the right was amazing on every exit! We had bad weather, but that also provided some of the most spectacular clouds! i learnt a lot from everybody, so thanks! I really will keep doing big ways for a while, it's really great fun. I think more young people should do this. Nothing against aging skydivers, but c'mon, some young blood wouldn't hurt. i think only the video guy and me were under 30 on my plane. Oh, wait, I'm over 30. Just by a year. It's like if younger people wouldn't touch this discipline cause it's only for older guys. NOT SO! Anyway, thanks everybody @ Spaceland and organizers, this was fun. PLUS Not a single injury (not even minor), not a reserve ride. For 12 jumps 145 people that's over 1700 jumps - so great turnout in those terms too. I just wish the steep-diving trackers would work on their technique, I don't like having to look for them below me... (and I'm not the folatiest track around) see you for the sequentials in perris in a couple of weeks. bye bye for now from istanbul, chester -- Be careful giving advice. Wise men don't need it, and fools won't heed it.
  17. don't miss it i plan to be there in october for the second time this year you'll be rotated to every position tiny skinny girls get to try being in the base, heavy guys dock last in their big jumpsuits tons of fun - tons of learning that camp (as well as another at skydive dallas) got me into the TSR... were i beleive i had the lowest # of jumps it's great - highly recommended --- eric ("chester") from mexico -- Be careful giving advice. MAC, every day of the week!
