  1. Incredibly imaginative (or twisted) interpretation of the topic. Or just really really reaching for the sake of arguement. I've given the stay-in-school, get-the-best-education-you-can speech to many classes. Had no idea I was conducting political indoctrination. Shit, next time I'm going to demand a fee from, uh, . . ., whoever it is that is benefiting from my indoctining. 2. Was it ever disclosed exactly what it was he was reading? Maybe Barack should be warned. " . . . the lust for power can be just as completely satisfied by suggesting people into loving their servitude as by flogging them and kicking them into obedience." -- Aldous Huxley
  3. Wouldn't the Prez (or any well spoken adult) speaking to them about the importance of a good education fall under the umbrella of taking personal responsibility, living an effective life, and so on and so forth? Certainly doesn't seem like "indoctrination" to me. Appears to me people are getting their undies in a bundle because of who is doing the talking. 4. Just out of curiosity, are you also suspicious of say, the President's Council on Physical Fitness? Or, is that also some sort of Commie plot to indoctrinate and corrupt American's youth? That's right. As the saying goes "Give them the body and the mind will follow." Or was it "Your feet are going to stay on the ground and your head is there to move you around." No, I got it now, "Remove the head and the body will die." That's not it either. Ah fuck it. 5. There you go. May not like him, may not agree with him; but still a chance to say hello, shake his hand, maybe give him a little advice. He holds the most powerful political office in the free world - I'd dig the chance to hello in person. BTW, my wife drew Air Force One duty for a couple weeks when she was an FA. She was low person on the crew, so got assigned to the chase plane (press). She got to meet a bunch of them, and upon deplaning, they got a quick meet and greet with Mr Clinton. I have his nuts to prove it! Really. She got a bunch of promo stuff as part of the handshake tour and a look inside AF1. One of the trinkets was a box of peanut M&M's packaged specifically for the Prez. So yes, we have Bill Clinton's nuts in a box on the shelf in the den; right next to Mom's ashes, and the Far Side Anthology. 6. Too much talk radio is probably what they've been listening to. Got in somebody else's car this past week for a quick ride. They had the radio parked on the local talk show. Tuned in right in the middle of an emotional rant by the host about the dangers of the Death Panel. Once those talking heads label something; the sheep never forget. 7. I'll take certain doom for $500 Bob. Well, you wanted entertainment. " . . . the lust for power can be just as completely satisfied by suggesting people into loving their servitude as by flogging them and kicking them into obedience." -- Aldous Huxley
  8. Oh, that is good. (Seriously). Speaks very clearly to so many issues: why our governement is so fucking ineffective at some of the things they do, legislating morality, looking good versus doing the right thing, image versus substance, etc. Even Mr Obama, who I did not vote for but still had invested hope for as far as maybe being somebody who could effect real change, has been totally caught up in the game. He has a very different agenda, but is guilty of all the same tactics. Bush jammed a BS war down our throat. Obama wants to bankrupt the nation providing goodies to the 5% of the population that wants but can't afford things (probably about half of which wouldn't lift a finger on their own). Both of them really piss me off. 9. I look at them the same as I look at everybody else; as individuals. Labels mean very little to me; unless someone is consistently extra goofy. I mean if somebody is a fundamentalist, thinks the world will end in 2012, the moon landing was faked, Planet X is hiding behind the Sun, the Illuminati rule the world, Bush ordered the 911 bombings, and every other heap of ridiculously silly notion that the average 6th grader can refute - then yes - goofy is as goofy thinks. Other than such extremes, accept if you can, tolerate if that is all you are capable of. 10. I love the door, I love it most when it is open. If not for safety and a few pansies in the plane I'd like it to be open all the time in the summer. The sky is so cool, and sunset - I get excited just thinking about it. Last Wednesday, sunset load, the sky was so beautiful at altitude. Incredible. I am even tempted to say that with a sky like that I'd dig just cruising around for a few minutes with the door open than actually making the dive. It was that gorgeous. Then we made the dive, did 18 points and I became OK with giving up my perch in the open door. 11. Yeah, a couple second window and one chance to get it right each dive. Brought my brother out to the DZ last week and he commented on (and was amused) at many of the student and newbie landings. Not many were stood up, quite a few PLF's (smart kids) and a couple planted themselves pretty fucking roughly into the turf. I told him to remember these folks have 20, 30, or some small number more jumps; and that means they have only had exactly that many chances at the one move you get at the end of each dive to stand it up. Same with exits. " . . . the lust for power can be just as completely satisfied by suggesting people into loving their servitude as by flogging them and kicking them into obedience." -- Aldous Huxley
  12. I think for most people, basics in both are not difficult if the time and effort is put in. But mastering, don't think either are "easy" and can't clearly conclude one is easier than the other. On the other hand, for both, it is very easy to fuck up. (In other words, takes very little effort). EDIT TO ADD: If I ever master either, I'll chime in further. 13. Attracted to her in the way any hetero-male would be; but as far as her actual work goes - BLECH! You seen one neurotic celebrity you seen them all, though the ones with hot bods are nice eye candy. " . . . the lust for power can be just as completely satisfied by suggesting people into loving their servitude as by flogging them and kicking them into obedience." -- Aldous Huxley
  14. Wouldn't that be a BSR violation? Section 62.A.33.b. - Landing on any car for which a tune-up costs more than the average family of four spends on groceries per month. 15. It really does not get much better than 69, does it? Of course I've never tried 106. Give me a hint. BTW, just funning; got a little annoyed at the my-school-can-beat-up-your-school stuff. You don't want to know where I went; a place where you could be a total goof-off and still get a degree - if that's what a person wanted. " . . . the lust for power can be just as completely satisfied by suggesting people into loving their servitude as by flogging them and kicking them into obedience." -- Aldous Huxley
  16. If there wasn't any point to it that is one thing, but to prove that it happens on BOTH sides is another. It's relevant to the debate. Calling somebody out for throwing stones when they live in a glass house is VERY relevant. It's the same for both sides. Call em' how they are. If the discussion was Kennedy's military experience and education vs Bush and McCaine's then yes, it would be very relevant. If the discussion is on Kennedy, then throwing in accusations about other people is not relevant. It's an attempted distraction; a red herring. "Well look at those guys" is not relevant and even if it were, it certainly wouldn't be an excuse. It seems relevant from the perspective that all professional politicians appear to be pretty superficial, highly manipulative self-centered people. Pretty impossible to make it to the levels we are talking about (national level for sure, state level too in most cases) without those qualities. So yes; Kennedy (pick a Kennedy, any Kennedy)exhibited a good amount of unhealthy behavior, and covered it up the best he could. So did Bush (pick a Bush, any Bush). They all lie, cheat, manipulate, obfuscate, mislead, and deceive; tools of the trade. Can we all move past that point and focus on the human tragedy at hand. Who is it again that we are shedding tears for? 17. What a gorgeous plane; thanks for the pictures. Any idea what it cost to convert to turbines? " . . . the lust for power can be just as completely satisfied by suggesting people into loving their servitude as by flogging them and kicking them into obedience." -- Aldous Huxley
  18. I like that. Government does need to set certain standards; and needs to regulate, monitor, and prosecute abuses. But there is nothing like competition to foster innovation and create price pressure. When the government actually gets into the business end of things we get stuff like $200 hammers and $300 toilet seats. " . . . the lust for power can be just as completely satisfied by suggesting people into loving their servitude as by flogging them and kicking them into obedience." -- Aldous Huxley
  19. Here too. Lots of attention to bridges after the I35W one fell into the water. I suppose a few dozen motorists having their cars pitched into the river has that effect. " . . . the lust for power can be just as completely satisfied by suggesting people into loving their servitude as by flogging them and kicking them into obedience." -- Aldous Huxley
  20. Appreciate the replies; that sounds reasonable. " . . . the lust for power can be just as completely satisfied by suggesting people into loving their servitude as by flogging them and kicking them into obedience." -- Aldous Huxley
  21. Really?! So every AFF candidate has to pony up $600+ before they can even consider doing their AFF I dive - which is another couple hundred? So they are in for $800 or $900 (or more) by the time they have completed their first AFF dive? " . . . the lust for power can be just as completely satisfied by suggesting people into loving their servitude as by flogging them and kicking them into obedience." -- Aldous Huxley
  22. Yes, via the propogation of ignorance, the rejection of knowledge, and subversion of the human spirit when it conflicts with their neolithic agenda. " . . . the lust for power can be just as completely satisfied by suggesting people into loving their servitude as by flogging them and kicking them into obedience." -- Aldous Huxley
  23. Satisfies the need to belong to something special. " . . . the lust for power can be just as completely satisfied by suggesting people into loving their servitude as by flogging them and kicking them into obedience." -- Aldous Huxley
  24. Yep; just like Y2K, Planet X, and other such BS. I'm going with a Rocky & Bullwinkle style title: Fools And Their Money Are Meant To Be Parted. or . . . Who Sheared The Sheep? " . . . the lust for power can be just as completely satisfied by suggesting people into loving their servitude as by flogging them and kicking them into obedience." -- Aldous Huxley
  25. On second thought, I'd rather play with a team of Buddhas. As a lanky, sorta fast, aging-but-wise-in-the-ways-of-the-game center fielder, I should easily be able to land a starting spot (seeing as how they are all fat, short, and slow).
