  1. The problem is the total appears to be of all votes. We need to see the number of participants for it to have meaning (or am I reading it wrong?) Point of clarification though. By illegal alien, do you mean from another country? Or off-planet? " . . . the lust for power can be just as completely satisfied by suggesting people into loving their servitude as by flogging them and kicking them into obedience." -- Aldous Huxley
  2. Anybody who has a problem with what is in there, regardless of who delivers it, is not only arguing for the sake of arguing, but is not giving kids enough credit to see it for what it is - a good old-fashioned pep talk. And any kid indoctrinated into whatever a person thinks is being indoctrined, is probably already out on the fringe. I suppose we'll now see a whole new level of partisan bickering over the people that get invited to give commencement speeches. 3. Ah, back on topic. Where are these seams anyway? Is our butt sticking out? " . . . the lust for power can be just as completely satisfied by suggesting people into loving their servitude as by flogging them and kicking them into obedience." -- Aldous Huxley
  4. Exactly - but thanks for asking before touching my stuff - I know you meant well - I'll do mine personally - if agree for you to check it or I even ask - thanks - give me a thumbs up when finished, don't slap the rig - isn't it obvious that the slap is stupid You know, I sometimes do that. For me, probably a remnant from messing with cars. Also, maybe kinda like the good-to-go slap on the butt thing. Not that I do that myself but when you think about it the slap on the butt serves no purpose either other than getting to touch someone's ass. I suppose it might serve some sort of pecking order purpose, or feeling out for romance purpose. Anyway, in case you are in here but not looking at PM's, I PM'd you on a separate topic, having nothing to do with slapping YOU on the ass; however, is your wife going to be at the DZ this weekend? 5. If only it were that simple. People have given a few good reasons but you dismiss them and resort to name calling. Again, if there is reason to suspect a problem (recognized by me or anybody else) then let's take a look; but to poke around without cause is not appropriate and IMO has more potential for problems than leaving it alone. Especially if your emphasis is just to check the pin. My bridle has about 1/2" of exposure, so again, IMO, unless something has happened (such as flap or bridle dislodged) you are far more likely to cause a problem than fix one. Trust goes both ways. Why don't you trust experienced jumpers to know when a check is called for? BTW, you are wrong in assuming all experienced people know what they are looking for, wrong in saying opening a flap has no effect on pack job (you will have to pull the flap, which has the potential to disturb the bridle not to mention you must touch the bridle itself), and maybe you need to be more careful yourself. Do you bang around inside the plane so much that you are constantly worried your pin is dislodged? No way my pin gets dislodged without disturbing the flap or bridle, which can be easily inspected visually without touching my gear. That being said, there are a very small number of people I do trust enough to let them touch it after me. They would be the people that have a touch, feel, and understanding of gear that I trust. But nobody else but me has put hundreds of jumps on it, and that counts for a lot. For me, and obviously I am not alone, my gear is very personal, and leads me to be extremely cautious about who touches it once I have it on. If that makes me an idiot in your eyes, . . . oh well. 6. Rats. Blocked by Interwebpol. Which myth? " . . . the lust for power can be just as completely satisfied by suggesting people into loving their servitude as by flogging them and kicking them into obedience." -- Aldous Huxley
  7. That's a good way to put it. If the situation calls for arch-look-reach-pull, followed by reach-pull; then when it does come up, that is what I am doing. Finish the sequence. Kind of like when a batter gets totally fooled by a great breaking ball. They know they are gonna miss it before it even gets to the plate, no chance of getting the stick on the ball. But they finish the swing anyway. Not a great example consequence-wise, just from the standpoint that if you are acting with serious intent, finish the sequence. 8. I think it is a symptom of how sharply divided we are right now in general. I mean, at every opportunity people throw out the labels as a standard part of every insult, as part of every objection, even just in passing comments. Look at this fiasco over the Obama presentation. All he is looking to do is throw his weight and influence behind the idea that kids should get the best education they can; and people turn it into a partisan issue. They are more concerned with image and superficial BS than fundamental principles and the common good. 'Yes, it's good to stay in school and get an education, but we don't want them to hear it from a Democrat.' What kind of lame BS is that? So now we have to engrain partisan politics into elementary students because when they are ready to see the speech some certain group of kids will be getting up and leaving the room. Nice fucking result. And I'm guessing there will be some truly ignorant parents on both ends who will have something to say to their kids about the kids who did not do the same as their's. Truly pathetic. Instead of emphasizing education, we are emphasizing the importance of partisan politics. I'm more worried about the legacy we are building for our kids than the miscreant behaviors of professional politicians - who are pretty much lost causes already. I think the best thing that could happen to the average politician would be to have a near death experience that results in some sort of epiphany that causes them to stop behaving like the narrow-minded self-serving assholes that they are and start behaving as if the public interest was their real job. 9. Same for me. I would ask them if they see something wrong or if they saw it get wacked or whatever. If it is just because they want to check it, the answer is no. I almost always pack it myself and don't want anybody undoing what I've done. Also, I jump a pretty uncommon rig (old Naro from Pisa) and if you mess with the reserve pin cover flap it can allow puckers in the riser covers and allow air to get in and open that flap in freefall. 10. Quenn Victoria?! Are you serious? It is obviously French, late 19th century haute couture. Queen Vic would not have been caught dead in that. 11. Cetainly. But there are lots of variables. At some certain altitude (this should be part of your EP preparedness) you would deploy reserve before chopping, accepting the risk of 2 out and having to deal with that. Just identifying a scenario and giving food for thought; consult your instructors for actual advice. 12. The LC guys are backing off of that in their next version. Apparently the lack of evidence is under even their standards. Edit: Their standard must be changing from it's-the-story-we-like-the-best to we-need-at-least-one-credible-expert-to-come-along-with-us. 13. Hundreds of people saw that plane and saw it hit. They did not see a small fast projectile; they saw a plane, they saw THE plane. Where are you getting the BS that no one saw a plane? Do you really think a jetliner screaming out of the sky and across the ground at 500 went unnoticed? There is only the small clip, which I believe is actually a series of stills from a time lapse camera (or whatever the proper term is for a camera that snaps a shot every X seconds). It still manages to capture enough of an image to show it is a plane. " . . . the lust for power can be just as completely satisfied by suggesting people into loving their servitude as by flogging them and kicking them into obedience." -- Aldous Huxley
  14. What exactly do you think they are withholding? Or do you just think they must be withholding something (nothing specific that you know of, but something), because that is what they do? From all the documentaries I've seen, seems pretty straightforward, with an occasinal "we don't know for sure." Which is bound to occur for a few missing details in any investigation of such a complex event. Appears to me the investigation has been pretty thorough - probably one of the most thoroughly investigated and analyzed crimes in history. Also appears to be very little doubt about anything significant. For crying out loud they have video of half the guys walking thru security. There are photos and videos of damn near everything you mention. What exactly do you think is missing that is so signifiicant as to cause you to suspect the government did it, or covered it up? That is a truly incredible accusation which demands evidence; of which we basically have internet rumor based on conjecture, feelings, and outright lies. 15. I needed a good smile. If only the comment about Soviet Russia could have been delivered in the voice of Boris or Natasha Badenoff. 16. Do church officials have some set of rules on this stuff? Is it official that if a person believes in evolution they do not recognize that person as Christian? How about using birth control? How about not believing in all of the stories that, when literally interpreted are just plain silly? So if I were to say I thought the whole Noah's Ark story was a farcical fanciful fairy tale, would the church elders officially not recognize me as Christian? " . . . the lust for power can be just as completely satisfied by suggesting people into loving their servitude as by flogging them and kicking them into obedience." -- Aldous Huxley
  17. Corporal Punishment. I'm for criminal prosecution. Anything physical at all and charges should be filed. Lock up little miscreants (better yet their parents if you are squeamish about locking up kids) and the message should get thru. Seems most schools have zero tolerance policies, but my experience is that it is not enforced. Anybody that gets physical with anybody else for other than defense of a physical threat needs some time in the hooskow. Nip it in the bud. Some adult role model has led you to believe beating people up is acceptable - good for you, but knock it off or get used to a life in lockdown. All bullies learn it from somewhere, and adult bullies are just kids that never socially matured. 18. What they have to say and what they have to back it up are big factors. When someone says "It could not have fallen that fast, it must have been a demolition" and you ask them why they think that and their response is because it doesn't look right, or seems wrong, or just cuz; they are spewing just so much flotsam. " . . . the lust for power can be just as completely satisfied by suggesting people into loving their servitude as by flogging them and kicking them into obedience." -- Aldous Huxley
  19. You wore THAT to prom?! Was you mate dressed like Henry the VIII? " . . . the lust for power can be just as completely satisfied by suggesting people into loving their servitude as by flogging them and kicking them into obedience." -- Aldous Huxley
  20. oops, care to reconsider? You are so behind the times. 2012 is the new 2009. Truthers are the new village idiots. Orange is the new yellow. Emotions are the new intelligence. Feelings are the new data. " . . . the lust for power can be just as completely satisfied by suggesting people into loving their servitude as by flogging them and kicking them into obedience." -- Aldous Huxley
  21. Apparently the goofs that created Loose Change are working on a 3rd edition. They had to create a 2nd edition after some of their claims were shown to be just too thin for even them to support. In an attempt to save credibility (having credibility with truthers is like saying masturbation is making love to your hand) they needed to rework some things. Now that a few more claims that remained in the 2nd edition have worn completely thin, they are creating a "final" version. What a fucking joke. These people are like the end of the world folks. They pick a day, and when it passes and the world still hangs tight, they revise and set a new date. The only unfortunate part is that a lot of people that have trouble using a modicum of logic keep buying into this crap. As an aside, and not that it is any kind of proof; but watching any sampling of truthers talk, you just gotta wonder why any intelligent person would even listen. A good portion of them are so obviously neurotic it is humorous. If it weren't for this interweb thingy coming of age and allowing flotsam to spread as if it were actually knowledge, this would all be treated as just so much noise from a few goofs. 22. No solution needed as there is no problem. The Prez is to give a short pep talk on staying in school and getting an education. Some who dislike him consider that indoctrination. Get a grip folks. 23. You're being kind. Lunatic is the word I'd use. " . . . the lust for power can be just as completely satisfied by suggesting people into loving their servitude as by flogging them and kicking them into obedience." -- Aldous Huxley
  24. Totally irrelevant. "We" do not get to trust them or not trust them to have children. It's none of our say and whether we trust them or not is not relevant. " . . . the lust for power can be just as completely satisfied by suggesting people into loving their servitude as by flogging them and kicking them into obedience." -- Aldous Huxley
  25. I seriously think that many kids would be better off with non-traditional schooling, such as home schooling, than they would be if they were forced into public schools. Yes. Seriously. No, I'm not being silly. There are relatively few parents that can effectively home school beyond a pretty early age. Whether it is time, their own knowledge base, or whatever; there just aren't that many as a percentage of the population that could do it well. Now if you think it is cool for parents to decide at say, the age of 4 that their child is going to be a ditch-digger for life and so why bother with formal schooling; then yes, everybody could home school. My comments are base on your use of "many." If by that you think even some simple majority of parents could take kids even thru the sixth grade and do a good job - I strongly disagree. If the other alternatives is a reference to some form of professionally led private schooling; yes, that is doable; but really only differs from the public schools in quality of the average result and cost. They mostly have the same goal and probably are just as guilty of indoctrination as the public system.
