Float - Fly - Be Free!! (and safe, of course!!!) Enjoy!! Dare to dream and then make it happen!

Congratulations and welcome!!! Take the time and heed advice from well-respected instructors and coaches.......you'll learn something new each and every day!!! Dare to dream and then make it happen!

Yippee!!

Excellent point!! I didn't own one until I watched some NASTY AND SCARY CRW video after hangin' with some dawgs a couple of years ago. It doesn't hurt to have one and I agree with the others in the forum - they're inexpensive and may prove indispensible!! Dare to dream and then make it happen!

Always - I fly camera and one never knows! The only bad thing is trying to remember to remove it when I'm traveling on commercial air! So far (even when I've forgotten)....all has been good! Dare to dream and then make it happen!

A PLF can be done from either position - hands up to protect your face (for hazardous landings - like in trees, etc.) or in a full flare. You should practice both and learn when to use them. Hope that helps. Dare to dream and then make it happen!

Welcome to the forums and to the sport! Dare to dream and then make it happen!

I couldn't agree more! The first thing on my mind is properly executing my cutaway/reserve procedures - and landing safely under an open parachute. The last thing on my mind is whether I've kept any of my handles! Dare to dream and then make it happen!

might as well formally introduce myself

Welcome - I'll keep an eye out for you at CK this summer! -
Hey there girl!! How cute was that!!! We're having our "Easter Beer Hunt" this coming weekend - now there's an idea!!! Dare to dream and then make it happen!

Congratulations! Its wonderful to see someone wanting to learn as much as they can! I know someone with thousands of jumps who randomly asks people around the DZ, "who's a student here?" and most raise their hand - including the experienced jumpers. We all learn something new each and every time we jump! Enjoy and keep us posted! Dare to dream and then make it happen!

It may help to build some packing objectives (that are written and documented) into an AFF program. That way no matter which instructor is teaching the student, they have a reference as to what needs to be taught at each level jump. And if the student documents in their log what they've done - it'll make the instructor's life easier. Just a thought..... Dare to dream and then make it happen!

Smart decision!! I always use a couple of gauges when deciding to jump or not to jump in windy conditions (albeit the final decision is mine). Wind direction at my DZ or if people with thousands of jumps (3K, 12K, 34K) are not jumping (who are sensible!

Yeah!! Congratulations!! Keep it up - post the picture when someone hits you with the pie!!! Dare to dream and then make it happen!

Do you still call the DZ where you learned home?
flynhigh replied to Andrewwhyte's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Absolutely!! No matter where my path will lead me - I will always consider the DZ where I learned how to jump - home. The instructors there helped 'mold me' - introduced me to all disciplines of skydiving. They're awesome! -
I jump and work at a small cessna dropzone - our student progression introduces packing from the very first jump you make. You learn a little more each time you jump so that by the time you're signed off instruction (for coach jumps leading to your A license) you know how to pack a parachute. An instructor or rigger is with the student supervising each one of these interactions. Though its not a USPA requirement until you become A licensed - our DZ requires you pack a parachute completely (under supervision) to be signed off instruction for coach jumps. I think its awesome - I've traveled to many other DZs where I saw no emphasis placed on packing whatsoever during AFF. I pack for myself (most of the time) and have confidence that all of our students know how to pack also. Hope that helps! Dare to dream and then make it happen!

Good luck and keep us posted! Welcome to the best sport there is!! Dare to dream and then make it happen!

I'm really thinking about making the trip this year - I've heard such wonderful things about it!! For those of you who have gone - what's a good place to stay (if you're not camping)? Thanks all!! Dare to dream and then make it happen!
