  1. AND you can access the cad from the side of the camera.
  2. I can't hear my CX series camera recording (but I have my "chime" turned off) But I can feel my DSLR taking still pictures though, so I understand what Stefan is talking about. Relatively speaking though, I don't have *that* many camera jumps, so maybe I'm just not used to it :) The CX series cameras can be controlled via the half-moon port with the Hypeyes (not the Cameye) which are sold in the UAE at the Palm DZ (this is the DZ where I work, not the Desert DZ). Come by and say hi sometime! cheers! pope PS: Don't buy the CX160...you should have grabbed the 150 while you could! I'm having all kinds of problems finding CX150's, 110's, 115's and 116's. If anyone has any leads on where to get a decent number of these, please let me know! thanks!
  3. Yo Cookie howzit? I'd be very interested to see what you come up with! It's a drag that you have to come up with anything at all though...no filter threads? Lame! I love my CX100, and if I could buy 20 of them right now I probably would...even CX110s and 150s...but They just don't seem to be available anymore. Bummer. Has anyone looked at the HDR-XR260VE? It's still expensive, but looks viable. cheers all! pope
  4. Looking to get new/replacement Sony CX series AVCHD cameras. I love my CX100, but know I'll have to replace it one day. I like the 110, and the 150, but they're discontinued. The 160 seems like it has freefall issues. What newer model cameras has anyone here tried? What works well in a skydiving environment? Love to hear your opinions! cheers! pope
  5. I've used em all (except Sonic's) and I'm a fan of the tongue switch. Except that occasionally it will hook my three ring under canopy for a sec.
  6. Thanks Spot. So on the 'snore machines did you add the SSD's to the boot drive only? How would you configure your HD's? SSD boot drive and then fast traditional drives for the rest? SATA externals? Also, I wanted to ask you what else is different about Vegas 11 over 10? What did they take away? What did they add? It definitely sounds faster! Thanks again! pope
  7. I look forward to Parachutist's comments then! Thanks Spot, for the info. When you say "VASST" turnkey do you mean PA2 or is there more to the package that I'm not aware of? If PA2 is all I need, will it require an upgrade for Vegas 11 or will it work as is? thanks! pope
  8. For those that know about such things: Could you describe the ultimate Vegas Workstation (assuming you had the cash to set it up RIGHT) in your opinion? Any information is appreciated, and specifics are helpful. Here are the parameters: -Busy operation, 4 editors churning out approximately 100+ 6-7 min. videos/day. -Goal is for ultimate speed in edit, render. -Optimized for USB delivery (rendering at 720p as mp4's). -Vegas Pro 10 -Production Assistant 2 What's the best Off-the shelf computer? What are the best components if I were to build it myself? ie: CPU, Power, boards, additions etc... Is there anything I need to be sure and consider? Any leads on brands, websites, etc are helpful, as are any of your real life Vegas tandem editing experiences! Thanks so much for sharing your knowledge! cheers! pope
  9. I like the Sigma 15mm a lot. Not quite as much barrel distortion as the Canon.
  10. I agree, and really don't like it when the camera guy geeks the camera in the students video. They're not paying to see our ugly mugs any more than they have to! I agree to a point, which is that different students might want different things in their videos. I look at it more that it is a cameraperson's job to "capture the EXPERIENCE of that first time jumper's first skydive." Of course they should be the star, but the videographer IS a part of that experience, ugly or not. I have students request that I'm in front of the camera for some of their video all the time. I think a real professional should adapt and overcome.
  11. You can start LEARNING to fly cameras right away! The first step is going to be understanding photography and videography WITHOUT a helmet ie: ON THE GROUND. Learn about the different settings on your cameras; learn how to compose shots; learn how to manipulate the pictures you take; take photography classes. WAIT on adding the skydiving part of it until you are truly ready. ...just a thought.
  12. Don't do it at all. There is much wisdom in the answer to the following question--and is especially poignant considering you have a family: Q: What's the difference between a PROFESSIONAL SKYDIVER and a large pizza? A: A large pizza can feed a small family. I've been lucky. I've found a way to make it work for ME, but I also don't have a family. I'd seriously spend the time trying to figure out how to make a career switch to something you'll like better and be happier at. You'll be better off in the long run. Just work your way into a weekend warrior slot at the dz and work a real job during the week. cheers, pope
  13. The iFly tunnel is completely separate from Skydive Dubai. Derek or anyone else that has been "poached" from XP do not work for iFly.
  14. Yes Dave. That's exactly what we're trying to do. Thanks for keeping it on topic.
  15. Generally speaking, we typically twixtor about 10 frames of source media, often more or less as required by the rhythm of the edit. We edit mostly on Vegas, but sometimes on FCP for non-tandem edits. It's not unusual for our editors to use up to 4 or 5 "quickstors" (quick twixtors--just made that up now...I like it;) during a standard tandem edit. It does slow processing speed a bit, but even with that extra time, we're going from card to handoff in 12-16 minutes, and it's only getting faster. It's not adding as much time as you mentioned though... FWIW, we're running Vegas Pro 10 on Windows 7 Pro with Boot Camp on 27" iMacs with 16GB ram in each. cheers, pope
  16. Hey all; just curious who is using twixtor (or similar) plugins to do their tandem edits... here's some of the experimenting our editors have been doing with it: http://youtu.be/P-TPpI2yNC0 Has anyone found any better plugins for this or anything else? cheers!
  17. Thanks Spot! Of course, now that I hear it from you, that makes perfect sense! Any other particulars you could offer in terms of the setup would be GREATLY appreciated! Either way Doug, thanks for sharing so much of your knowledge with us on this forum...it really is invaluable! cheers! pope
  18. Hi! We are just beginning to edit in Vegas Pro 10 w/ PA2, (still working on the automation though). Right now we're having a difficult time finding an encoder that can match the quality of the .mov file encodes we did with fcp/toast. Although I love the idea of burning from the timeline, it seems that it is not as good a quality encode as it is when we actually render a file to the hard drive and then encode to disk. Even burning a standalone version and then converting it to mpeg2 as it burns to the disc is not as crisp as we'd like to see it. Any suggestions to to get the best quality final output of our AVC HD footage to DVD? What codecs/settings are people using on here for great results? FWIW, we work on a PAL timeline with both PAL and NSC footage (one or the other not mixed). cheers! pope
  19. Hey all; for those of you that have heavy-use Vegas systems; what have you all found works best for protecting your computer from Viruses/Malware/Adware etc. without slowing your system down? Anti Virus programs? Firewalls? Any info would be appreciated! cheers! pope
  20. I prefer the PRObar to most cliff products, with the exception of CLIFshots. PRO bars are vegan and raw, and are really, really good tasting. As far as energy goes, they have always given me at least as much if not more energy than clif products. I chock up the extra cost to the quality of ingredients. Try a few flavors. I wasn't fond of the mocha ones, but the pretzel one is amazing!
  21. At the dz I work at now, 99.5% of ppl have video. At my last dz, it was more like 50%.
  22. Yeah, Trunk hooked me up with my replacement parts IMMEDIATELY! He's the man. HYPOXIC for life yo. Cheers Mark! pope
  23. Yeah. I use Toast 10 and convert to ProRes422 for FCP. Works great for me. Most of my files come as plain .mts files NOT from the camera.
  24. The best solution? Don't make a freakin' wedding video THREE HOURS long. [cocking pistol and placing it in mouth] I'm pretty sure that VHS tapes in LP mode can do like 6-8 hours of playback time, if that helps. cheers! pope
