When your student lands with the plane
Andrewwhyte replied to EricTheRed's topic in Safety and Training
Wow the DZO sure has your number. There is no way I'm getting into a plane for a work jump where my nickle is involved. If a student who needs supervision dies while without supervision guess who gets to explain it to the judge. That said if you are not an instructor, just a coach, then coach your guy to stay in the plane and get out. As far as I understand the USPA coach system you are there to teach the sporting aspects of skydiving to someone who can supervise themselves. Does anyone have the privileges of a coach handy? I do know one story where the PFF jumpmaster chose to leave her student in the plane. A C-205 had a level 1 and a level 3 set to leave in that order. The level 1, a petit blond, held onto the strut on exit and ended up sitting on the wheel. The two 200lb instructors reportedly both gave it the ol' college try to hang on but both let go. The instructor for the level 3 told her student to stay in the plane and took the level 1 student off the plane where she made a nice skydive and was passed to level 2 after some remedial exit training. Much beer was bought. -
Calif. Supreme Court Orders Halt to Gay Marriages
Andrewwhyte replied to Gawain's topic in The Bonfire
We've had it in Canada for about a year. You know what? It hasn't impacted my well being one bit. Why do people who aren't gay give a damn? -
If your exit weight is ~210 your wing loading is ~1.25:1 or so. This is pretty high for someone with fifty jumps. That said heavier people tend to have higher wing loading (see PD's websight/ John LeBlanc's articles). The first question is what have you been jumping? If all your jumps so far have been on 290s (Mantas, Skymasters etc.) then you are definitely not ready for this. Get some experience on some transition canopies. If you have been jumping 220s and 190s then that's better. The next question is what have you been doing under those transition canopies? Have you gone through a structured program to learn about the canopy? Stalls? Front and rear riser turns and spirals? Flat (1/2 brake, 3/4 break) turns? Full toggle turns followed by emergency flare drills? If you have not then maybe you should work out a program with your coach or instructor and go through it with the transition canopy first, then with the smaller one. Remember your weight will not make your 170 go particularly fast. It will, however make it particularly unforgiving.

One in five hundred tandems(Strong). Reason #1 careless packing (mine). It was a misrouted bridal so reason #2 careless prejump inspection. It was the first jump of the season and when my spider senses were tingling during the prejump I interpreted it as uncurrency. The truth is my rusty brain was telling me that the picture was wrong. The flat spin in drogue fall was sort of under control when I pulled the student handle. When I got nothing I went immediately to the reserve and had the handle out when I remembered procedure and pulled the other two handles and then pulled the reserve. During this time the flat spin accelerated so that when I looked up I was greeted with the sight of my bridal fouled in my reserve lines. I had about four line twists with my drogue trailing behind the twists. I'm afraid I didn't react all that well vis a vis my passenger. As I handed her my handles I said "Things aren't going well, you hold these." Nothing like taking care of business while the customer is kept oblivious. I then got rid of the line twists while pulling in the drogue and handing it to the passenger after ensuring a bit of slack.

Yah, me too. It starts to hurt right about the time the barbell comes through my chest.

Yah, but they have the most Superbowls.

If they weren't one, they wouldn't be the other, would they?
Andrewwhyte replied to flyhi's topic in The Bonfire
I disagree. I am not a republican, owing to the fact that I am not an American. If, however, I was an American, I would be a straight, anti-Bush Republican. The difference between Ronald Reagan and either of the Bushes is that The Great Communicator appealed to both the So-Con wing and the Libertarian wings of the party, and both Bushes tend(ed) to ailienate those who are not currently in favour. With Bush senior it was the economic libertarians who just want the gov to let them earn their living. Bush Junior has completely abandoned the social libertarians who just want the gov to let them live their life. The end result will be the same; a one term presidency. -
Interesting thread Rod. What are you up to?

2,500-jumps+, x-brace, & 16-yrs old
Andrewwhyte replied to rmsmith's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Nope. CSPA rules say no-one under eighteen. -
Once you get the hang of it you can play the 'grown ups' version. It's called bridge.

I dunno. I was just thrashing about trying to think of something. Doesn't really mean anything.

Go to the pool. Swim until you think you will drown before getting to the side to get out. go directly to the hot tub to warm your core back up. When you get home have a nice pasta with an olive oil based sauce LOADED with garlic, jalapinos and seafood. neo-citron. SLEEP.

You mean you live in Ontario. No snow in BC. Sadly I'm waiting for knee surgery. Unlike skybitch we all have insurance in Canada; too bad the waiting lists are months long for minor procedures
-
If you get out, you are a skydiver. A Tandem passenger may not be doing it all themselves, but they're still getting out.

Umm? I thought that's what this website is for.

Didn't your mother teach you that it's not nice to tease the christians?

I think most of the time when I was very young there was no ammo in the house. When I was old enough to shoot, it was locked in the safe. Maybe I could have gotten into the safe, but I definitely didn't have the stones to try that (shudder).

If a ten year old had access to one bullet, did he also have access to one gun? The parent clearly demonstrated that he didn't have enough sense to protect his kids from the weapons. When I was ten I knew where the guns were but I never had access to the bullets until I was old enough to shoot. Even then I don't think I could get at the ammo when my dad wasn't around

There have been various double mal survival stories. Sandy McRob into the old Bent Prop parking lot and Da3ve Ruckert (his spelling not mine) into Lost Prairie come to mind. I do know one story about a guy who went in with all pins in place and lived. It happened in Abbotsford BC in the late seventies or early eighties. Dead Bob was preparing to dump when he went through another guys (round) main. Dead Bob was knocked out. The other guy cut away and deployed his reserve; Dead Bob went through that too. The two jumpers formed a horseshoe out of the mess of fabric and went in like that. Both jumpers were very fucked up but they both lived. They were slowed down somewhat by the fabric out and they benefited from the soft muddy ground 10 feet above sea level that is Abbotsford. Dead Bob eventually started skydiving again and, although I haven't seen him in some time, I believe he still does occasionally jump. Many people believe Dead Bob had his chance to die and blew it, that he's immortal now. Since the accident he has survived a plane crash, a bad industrial accident, and in 1992 he was one of nine jumpers and one pilot quickly exiting a Porter over Chilliwack BC after the first one out took the tail with him. Ask Jerry Bird about that one if you see him.

Democrats bite their own noses to spite their faces
Andrewwhyte replied to peacefuljeffrey's topic in The Bonfire
True. IMHO this is a very poor way to create law. The legislative branch gets paid to draft laws that work. What happens is that they do a piss poor job and have to muck around with things like this exemption. When you combine that with activist judges who want to do the legislative branch's job you get a legal system that is less and less transparent to the individual agent, and thus more and more for the benefit of the more sophisticated and well connected actors in society. -
It will not help Kev. The Eagles will never win the superbowl. Giants won ha!ha! Redskins won ha!ha! Cowboys won FIVE TIMES HA!HA!HA!HA!HA!HA!HA! HA!

Andrewwhyte replied to peacefuljeffrey's topic in The Bonfire
Maybe rather than giving immunity to the well connected from a disfunctional litgition system, the NRA should do their bit for a better America by lobbying Congress to change the whole system. If it doesn't work for gun manufacturers, it doesn't work for anyone. -
You think football is dumb. There's people on another thread talking about a reality TV show; now that's dumb.
-
Maybe it's just Dumb if you live near those losers the Eagles. Maybe it's just that your team has never one the big one. The Giants have won. The Redskins have won. The Cowboys have won FIVE TIMES. Maybe that's why you think it's dumb.

VIRUS ALERT: Email account utilization warning.

Thanx for the warning. I got that email from Yahoo today. Word is there's a war going on right now with competitive worms attacking each other over the ability to use your email account (and computer) as a spam platform.
