If you think you need one, then you probably do. If your goal is to participate in more big-ways, an an audible (or LED) altimeter is a good idea. It's nice to be able to keep your eyes moving to survey your surroundings for traffic rather than stopping to focus on an alti. Kevin _____________________________________ Dude, you are so awesome... I think that Jim Rasmussen and his folks have been trying to change that. My understanding is that they have had a lot of good jumps and spread a lot of good CRW vibes there in the last couple of years. So, let me get this straight...the video will show a 60-way being built, but there are only 8 real jumpers involved ?? Maybe those rumors about that big-way in Thailand being a hoax really ARE true ?? And I know that 85-way CRW formation just had to be computer generated. I'm not sure what to believe anymore. Congrats on the completion of the project. I look forward to seeing the finished work. Kevin _____________________________________ Dude, you are so awesome... Can I be on your ash jump ?

Yes, we're so hard up for friends, we even pay Chico to be on the team. But it's worth it just for all the excitement he causes on most jumps... _____________________________________ Dude, you are so awesome... Can I be on your ash jump ?

Yeah, right. I don't suppose that DZ has a parking lot, does it ? Kevin --------------------------- _____________________________________ Dude, you are so awesome... Can I be on your ash jump ?

That does sound like a great weekend. Too bad we can't seem to get DZ / manufacturer support like that in the U.S. Kevin K. _____________________________________ Dude, you are so awesome... Can I be on your ash jump ?

Chico on DZ.com. Who woulda thunk it. Welcome to the neighborhood, Cheeks. The good thing about the CRW forum is that it's so slow, you can check it about every two weeks and never really miss anything. I still have one that I use for CRW. I put a few jumps on it just yesterday. Kevin SCR-3022 _____________________________________ Dude, you are so awesome... Can I be on your ash jump ?

As a Rigger during a reserve repack do you re-pack the main?
kkeenan replied to fugozzie's topic in Gear and Rigging
In my experience, the main is usually removed from the harness to make the reserve easier to pack (and to carry around). Then the customer re-attaches the main when they get the rig back. However, in today's skydiving culture, where many jumpers seem to need a packer or a rigger to re-attach the 3-Rings for them, maybe it's better that they pay the rigger for a main pack job. Not really a random place, but I've been on loads, many years ago, where we picked a field miles away from the DZ. If the DZ was socked-in, we would find a good area, tell the pilot to "send some folks to pick us up at x-y intersection", and get out. We would usually have time to pack before the pick-up crew arrived. There was one time when the property owner wouldn't let us leave and called the police, but that's another story. Once in a while we would jump into a field that was known to produce particularly good mushrooms. But that's yet another story. Kevin _____________________________________ Dude, you are so awesome... Yes. But if you go low on one, you get axed from the others. Kevin _____________________________________ Dude, you are so awesome... Can I be on your ash jump ?

Does a Tandem count as a jump towards licences?
kkeenan replied to sd-slider's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
As a pilot, I would have loved to have seen the face of the FAA examiner when I applied for any of my flying ratings, if I had offered hours as an airline passenger as proof of experience. That is how I feel a Tandem Passenger relates to a skydiver. Kevin _____________________________________ Dude, you are so awesome... Can I be on your ash jump ? -
There was a CRW stack built at DeLand back in the early days of Tandem Certification. This was obviously pre-drogue, and involved some of the first TMs and newly-certified TMs, all of whom were highly experienced. There were many very recognizable names participating. Has anyone heard from our CRWDog friends at the Empuria CRW Boogie ?? They must be having too much fun to get to a keyboard (or possibly too drunk to turn on a computer ) If anyone has any news, the rest of the world is eager to hear it. Isn't the Double Diamond one of the formations built last month by Kirk VanZant's group in Sabastian and featured in photos in this month's Skydiving ? It appears that Europeans should not attempt formations of this difficulty, as this poses a clear danger to themselves and many spectators and farm animals on the ground below. This is a concept that very few freefallers can appreciate. Kevin K. _____________________________________ Dude, you are so awesome... Can I be on your ash jump ?

I have found that in many cases, jumpers who never travel to other DZs tend to have narrow, close-minded attitudes about skydiving. They are so ingrained in one way of doing or thinking about something, that they are unwilling to consider alternatives. This certainly cannot be taken as a blanket statement covering a whole group, but just my observation of some folks. By getting out to other places, one sees different ways of doing things - some better, some worse. In addition to meeting new people, one can observe different attitudes, customs, and procedures that can only serve to broaden one's outlook. Back in the '70s, I had the ultimate in cheap cheapos - a 28' C-9 with the lines stripped from the radial seams and a 4-line release. This was my low-volume hot RW canopy. Of course, tying the lines back on for each pack job was a pain, and every time I landed, everyone thought it was a reserve ride. But the price was right, since the canopy was from a dumpster at the USAF Survival School. ( "I swear, I just found it".) Kevin _____________________________________ Dude, you are so awesome... Since Liz has loosed this upon the CRWDog e-mail list, I'll consider it in the Public Domain. With all due props, Liz.
