  2. Jumper A - I hope you don't mind, but I copied your story over on the CRW Forum. Several CRWDogs I've told about it were very entertained. They said they were laughing with you. They also said they're glad you're OK. I know a lot of people who teach jumpers to do CRW, and even a little training can make people safer and more comfortable near others under canopy. (But then some of those CRWDogs are so comfortable, they get in wraps all the time) Now that you've had a little sample of the excitement of the Dark Side, you may want more. 3. Dude, with your vast experience, you don't need to jump in anything more than a jockstrap and flipflops. Don't weenie out now. Hang in there, you'll toughen up. Hell, what are you going to do when you're hooking in swoops with that new Velo in another 10 - 12 jumps. Kevin K. _____________________________________ Dude, you are so awesome... 4. Here's a great thread about doing casual CRW with Sabres. I don't really condone dumb mistakes, but that doesn't stop me from enjoying a good story. This guy seemed to learn way more about CRW than he ever imagined. http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?post=2448080#2448080 Kevin K. _____________________________________ Dude, you are so awesome... 5. I have jumped at a couple of DZs that actually had fire departments, with EMTs on duty, within sight of the landing area. That always made me feel better. But, I guess some people could be put off by it. Kevin K. _____________________________________ Dude, you are so awesome... Can I be on your ash jump ?
  6. I've usually seen it done with a big Magic Marker on the bridle. I heard a story once about a rigger who wrote his name & number on customers' bridles. When they were returned, they went into stock to be sold as used gear to other customers. But, that was in the old days, when there were were sleezy riggers around. 7. First, congrats on a safe off-DZ landing. These can be pretty hazardous, and it's easy to get hurt on one. In my opinion, your #3 concern should be your #1. If you were planning to open at 4000 ft., but opened at 2500, it sounds like you were concentrating too much on less-important things. In-air navigation, tracking, etc. are important, but lack of altitude awareness should be your first priority. As others have said, pulling high is a much better solution to a bad spot than extra tracking. As for spotting, sit near the door with experienced jumpers and have them point out useful landmarks and their locations from your DZ. Visualize the path that the jumprun will follow, and what you will be looking for. Jumping is fun, there's no denying that. However, at this stage of your training, you should be trying to learn something from every moment of exposure to the sport and experienced people. 8. I'm curious. Is there a reason that you feel that you must be anonymous to this group ? In a constructive vein, putting your name and phone number on your freebag or bridle will help to get it back if it lands in a populated area. However, this may not fit in with you needs to protect your identity and your personal privacy. Kevin Keenan _____________________________________ Dude, you are so awesome... 9. Thank you, Howard. Q was a great guy, and we'll really miss him. Kevin K. _____________________________________ Dude, you are so awesome... Can I be on your ash jump ?
  10. Yeah, well, they lost a MiG to one of our P-3s. They're still touchy. kevin _____________________________________ Dude, you are so awesome... Can I be on your ash jump ?
  11. Antonov AN-2. Originally Russian, this may be a Chinese-built copy. (Kind of like their latest spacecraft.) Kevin _____________________________________ Dude, you are so awesome... Can I be on your ash jump ?
  12. Yeah, Doc was a real piece of work. I'm sure that was the only DZ where you could get a free chiropractic adjustment after a downwind landing in the peas. He would stretch you out on that old wooden bench and start cracking bones. Here's my Galveston Skydivers patch. Kevin _____________________________________ Dude, you are so awesome... 13. What a week (or so) this has been. The accidents, the services, the tears and long-distance phone calls. I had been planning to go to the Perris CRW event, and when it was time to go, I was glad to change scenery from Florida to the desert, and to immerse into a world of CRW for the weekend. It was so good to be around CRWDogs and Doggesses this weekend. We talked about our friends, told jump stories, and mostly, we did some really fun CRW. This was an all-encompassing CRW weekend at Perris. There were moments of beauty, happiness, horror, pain, smoke, flames, flashing lights – you name it. In other words, your typical CRW outing. I’m sure there will be a lot written about this weekend (I hope so, anyway.) I’ll say this, however, any CRWDog who was there will always remember these few days in September. I hope for speedy recovery of everyone’s injuries, minor and otherwise, and speedy replacement to those who had gear and accessories join the cow skulls in the desert Thank you, West Coast CRW Gangmembers for the hospitality. Someone said that our missing friends would have wanted us to go out and have a great time doing CRW. I have no idea if that’s what they would want, but if it was, then they had a great view of some fun, fun jumps. Kevin _____________________________________ Dude, you are so awesome... 14. I think that's the absolute best anyone could have done that day, Bubbles. Q would have loved that you were doing CRW over his DZ. It is a really nice place, and I know I'll never go there again without thinking of him. Thanks, Bubbles and Chris for flying our Freak Flag at Jumptown and representing us for Q. He was such a shooting star and we'll really miss him. Kevin _____________________________________ Dude, you are so awesome... Can I be on your ash jump ?
  15. I guess as long as you don't mind the occasional repack and cutter purchase due to slamming your trunk lid. In my opinion, it seems that the Vigil's selling point of not requiring "maintenance" is overshadowed by it's need for "care". Kevin _____________________________________ Dude, you are so awesome... 16. I fart in your general direction... _____________________________________ Dude, you are so awesome... Can I be on your ash jump ?
  17. Information passed on from Shireen: Location: Nichols Funeral Home Inc 187 Middlesex Ave, Wilmington, MA 01887 (978) 658-4744 For people that are flying in, it is about 45 minutes south of MHT Manchester, NH or 30 minutes north of BOS Boston, MA. Manchester is an easier and smaller airport, but you can usually find cheaper and more direct flights into Boston. The viewing will be on Friday during the hours of 2-4, then 6-9pm at Nichols Funeral Home in Wilmington, MA. Saturday there will be additional viewing hours from 9:30 to 11:30 am, then at 11:30 we will all leave the funeral home together to go to the church around the corner on Church St. called St. Thomas. The mass/funeral will be promptly at noon, followed by the burial at the cemetary. From 2-4 at Hillview Country Club in North Reading there will be a reception with a catered luncheon..
  18. Here's the CRW formation I was in with Q. I like the small dives with a few friends, but now and then, the big-ways are cool, too. On one of the practice jumps, Q did a swoop through the gate of a 8 ft. chainlink fence topped with barbed wire. His flying was awesome. 19. And since no one yet knows if they suck as bad as a Vigil, people are buying them like crazy. Kevin _____________________________________ Dude, you are so awesome... Can I be on your ash jump ?
  20. We don't need no stinkin' names (although it's easy to guess some of the usual suspects) just tell us about the CRW carnage. I'll be at Perris for next weekend's CRW Boogie. I need some foreplay to get me in the mood. Kevin _____________________________________ Dude, you are so awesome... Can I be on your ash jump ?
  21. Hopefully they still have that airplane that can "hover over his house". A plane like that should be pretty easy to spot from. Kevin _____________________________________ Dude, you are so awesome... Can I be on your ash jump ?
  22. I'm sad to report that Paul Quandt, known to all in the CRW world simply as "Q", suffered unsurvivable injuries in a motorcycle accident on Friday. Q trained lots of new CRW folks over the years. He was known and loved around the world for his superior flying talent and the good vibes he spread wherever he went. He will be missed terribly. Marcie Lovell has generously set up a website where photos and rememberances of our Q can be posted and viewed. http://www.crwdiva.org/q-memorial Fly on, Buddy, Kevin Keenan _____________________________________ Dude, you are so awesome...
