  1. as for serving time in their own country (honduras in this particular case) the scumbag didn't commit any crimes there, so once he gets off the plane, he's free to come back to the US through illegal border crossings (as did this scumbag). Getting the guy deported isn't as simple as it sounds. I've made the calls to ICE to get someone in my extended family sent back to Mexico while he was in county lockup. They didn't seem to care. They sure as hell didn't show up to get him. When he finished serving his sentence ICE was supposed to pick him up at the jail, but didn't and so he was released. so while this guy did get sent back to honduras after his 3rd arrest, he just came back to do it again and kill someone this time. -- Rob
  2. when people take it without external context, I see things like an analysis of the grammar based on modern grammar rules.... "what does it mean that they put a comma there" That isn't a complete sentence. How can you infer meaning from that?" You simply shouldn't analyze a 200+ year old document by modern grammar rules. Knowing the ideas that were in the ideas of the authors helps add meaning to what you read. -- Rob
  3. sounds like just another DWI horror story... Then we find out that he was an illegal immigrant from Honduras, had 3 DWI arrests, was deported after being arrested at a traffic stop for not showing up to court, quickly returned to the US, to resume his old habits. http://www.kxan.com/dpp/news/crime/alvarado-testifies-in-dwi-murder-trial this doesn't keep it from being a DWI horror story, it just makes it more contriversial. I was surprised that he was released on bond at the second DWI arrest (apparently the second & third happened before the court date for the first). Apparently judges don't (or can't?) take into account recent arrests that haven't gone to court yet. -- Rob

    Way to Go!!

yes, "jobs created or saved" is a bogus metric. Even when it comes from the office of the POTUS. -- Rob
  5. we'll never see his true colors. he's a puppet, and wouldn't do anything to harm the party. -- Rob
  6. yeah. I thought about the word "unremembered" a few times before I hit post. I didn't want to say "forgot" because once bill mentioned it the lightbulb went off and I remembered it. I didn't mis-remember it, and oddly enough, "unremembered" doesn't get dinged by the spell-checker. Doesn't mean it's a word, but I'm justifying myself by this point anyway so I'll stick with that story. -- Rob
  7. well I was thinking of: From which I inferred that the birds, cattle, and creeping things already existed. though yes, a few pages later the specific order is referenced. (which I totally unremembered) -- Rob
  8. If you're gonna slam religion, at least get your mythology straight. The people were created last. -- Rob
  9. every good drunk story starts with "apparently..." as in "apparently... I was drunk last night and emailed a threat to the president of the united states" I agree Dave, that's a hell of a bender. -- Rob
  10. huge generalization that in my experience doesn't hold water. I've seen plenty of liberals who don't want to expose their children to alternative viewpoints. I've also seen plenty of conservatives who do. Your experiences may differ. Certainly your opinions do. But that's why they're call opinions. -- Rob
  11. Or you're dealing with someone who's been around the internet long enough to remember when people in-lie quoted emails so that context was close to answer. no they're not :) you're full of it with the context removal on quote-splitting we are a lazy bunch, and would rather take what is spoon-fed to us than go out and fetch our own answers. (that's opinion, though most people might accept it as fact) (rest of the post deleted to remove context) -- Rob
  12. in the spirit of the OP... YOU'RE WRONG!! -- Rob
  13. It's still Bush's fault, Clinton still did it first, and Obama still can't stop any of it. Take that!!! Except Obama will try to spend his way out of debt. And Hoover/McSame would cut taxes out of debt. And some people still don't understand the concept of living within one's income. I saw a commercial today about debt management. the theme was "if you find yourself in a hole, stop digging". It was paid for by some government agency. I snickered. -- Rob
  14. bottom line is that it's a book burning. Book burnings are put on by morons. This one is also attention seeking. -- Rob
  15. cops don't always know the details of the laws they're supposed to be enforcing. Nothing pisses some cops off more than quoting penal code to them. Had an officer tell me I was trespassing once. I asked if he was acting as an officer of the owner of the property. He looked at me funny until I noted that to be trespassing, you have to be informed through approved signage or verbally by the owner of someone reasonably assumed to be acting as an officer for the owner. Then his exact words were "don't argue with me boy!" Unlucky for me I was white, and he was black, not the other way around, or that belt tape would have made me some money. -- Rob
  16. I miss FC. (but not that much) I have a FC t-shirt that I would wear to work once I thought things we saw things were going down the tubes. One place I worked, the management wanted IT to monitor logs to see who was posting shit about the company on FC.com. Of course the reality was that it was the people they'd just fired who were posting it. -- Rob

    Kicked out?

I was once part of a group that was booted from the truck stop just north of Eloy. Drunk chick in our group was throwing ice across the table at someone in our group, but because she was drunk, she kept missing. Local chick ended up dumping her drink in the drunk chick's lap. We didn't have to pay our tab though. so win!! -- Rob
  18. You always have the option to do what you like - it just so happens that there are consequences to your actions (even in "real life"). On here, if you call someone a fucktard, you get banned - it's an established and known consequence. well in my case it was "goat fucker" but close enough. And I knew I had it coming. *** I'm not generally fond of rules, but as long as they exist for a good reason, they tend to be preferable to the alternative. I think this is one of those rules. Have you ever been involved in a forum that doesn't have these rules? Was it constant insults? No, not in my experience. Actually I think the rules actually can make things worse on forums. -- Rob
  19. Heh, heh, heh. No you don't. This is a private website, you have no more rights here than you do in Sangiro's living room. heh heh heh... re-read what he wrote. to re-phrase: In the real world, you have the right to call a fucktard a fucktard. but here you have to play nice. -- Rob
  20. yeah. discovered SC after I became more politically opinionated. Before that I was mostly coasting. Don't know when this place was founded, but I joined after hearing discussions on rec.skydiving. I want to say in the late 90's 98-ish. didn't post here for quite a while after though. -- Rob
  21. yes, you and winsor are of the same mind here (see post 9). DU would have the opposite problem though. It's much more dense than lead. (19.1g/cm^3 vs 11.3g/cm^3) Banning lead ammo is a solution looking for a problem. -- Rob
  22. I like how telling someone they need to post like an adult is a PA, yet repeated calling people repubiclowns, even emphasizing the words in the bastardization of the term, is not a PA because it's simply political in nature. one mod I exchanged PMs with said he tried to determine if the post was made with malice when he considered if something was a PA or not. I've seen much malice on this board. And oddly enough, most of it is centered around dancing around these PA rules. -- Rob
  23. sounds fine to me... wait... BBQ? oh hell no. we gotta make fun of the people who want tennesee BBQ. -- Rob
