  1. yeah... a properly maintained modern firearm in working order will not discharge when dropped. Yes, that was a well qualified statement. treat your gun like a penis. - only touch it if it's yours or you have permission to touch it - don't touch it in public - don't aim it at anyone - keep it secure so it doesn't slip out of your pants there are others. but those are what I can remember off the top of my head. -- Rob
  2. Wendy made pretty much the same statement that I replied to here http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?post=4780367#4780367 You probably hadn't gotten to that post yet (understandable on threads like these that grow quickly). I was originally referring to his right to feel safe. Which as you point out isn't a constitutional right. -- Rob
  3. You mean respond to them based on their actions. Yeah... very likely. I wouldn't see that as motivation to disarm. I wouldn't go out looking for the bad guy in such a situation though. It's my job to get the hell out of dodge and protect myself. I see more and more LEO opinions of "citizens need to be able and prepared to defend themselves". I take that as a statement of understanding that officers are going to deal with armed citizens in an appropriate way. -- Rob
  4. There is no hierarchy. My right to own a gun does not interfere with anyone else's right to life. If I choose to take a life with any weapon, that is not my right and has nothing to do with someone else's right to gun ownership. The anti-gun lobby argues that I shouldn't have the right to purchase a firearm because someone else broke the law using their firearm. -- Rob
  5. I don't think my rights supercede yours. Where is your right to not be afraid of a law abiding citizen enumerated in the constitution? exactly. The supreme court also has ruled that the 2nd is an individual right. You don't agree. Such is your right. -- Rob
  6. So just to be clear... Based on the above statement you believe your rights are more important than someone else's rights. -- Rob
  7. This. Trump wants to do grand things. That's cute. Even Bernie (though his plans don't seem to think more than one step ahead and completely ignore unintended consequences) has plans to pay for his massive amounts of free shit he wants to give everyone in order to vote for him. Trump is not a fiscal conservative. We are 19T in debt. We got there through a couple of wars and some Hopey Changey bullshit. "Make amearica great again" sound a lot like "Hope and Change" to me. -- Rob
  8. The CDC published a study in 2013 that noted that guy buyback programs are ineffective in reducing crime. If someone wants to turn in a firearm they're uncomfortable having, that's their right. I think it's silly spending tax dollars on those programs as a way to reduce crime. -- Rob
  9. It was never claimed that there would be such a program put in place due to this legislation. It seems to me that all they are also saying is that based on statements made by these politicians, it is believable that they would support such a program. -- Rob
  10. I think he's referring to the no-fly list maybe. Apparently due process isn't important to him. -- Rob
  11. I don't recall hearing your thoughts on the meta-study (study of studies) the CDC published in 2013. Depending on whose summary I've read it was either useless or shows that defensive gun uses are effective and numerous enough that they outweigh current levels of gun violence. That and the extremely little press attention the study received leads me to lend more weight to the summaries saying that this study isn't what the administration wanted when they asked for it. -- Rob
  12. to pick a nit, by the 2014 UCR crime stats (table 20) I see 11961 murders with 8124 by firearm. Just about 68%. But given that even, you're only concentrating on murders here? You're not worried about violent crime in general in this discussion? Just trying to set the goal posts is all. -- Rob
  13. I typically discuss this in terms of "violent crime" as defined by the FBI crime reports. That's what the CDC published report from a couple of years ago discussed as well. -- Rob
  14. Weak leaders (our president) get called weak. Assholes (Trump) get called assholes. I'm sure Trump has a diplomatic side. I just hope we don't have to find out on a presidential level. -- Rob
  15. No. Those factors will affect the amount of traffic across each border, but not the porosity of it. I don't have a problem with immigration. I have a problem with not being able to keep track of who is coming and going. -- Rob
  16. I know... all those damn canuks coming down here, being polite and apologizing. Annoying as hell. A less humorous note, the only things keeping the Canadian border from being as porous as the mexican border is the weather and terrain. -- Rob
  17. Muslims? Hell... the Canadians scare the hell out of me. They're going to come down here and apologize to me. How am I supposed to respond to that? -- Rob
  18. I don't see why you're asking me. I'm not a supporter of hers, nor is it my job to call her out on any statements she made that don't line up with fact. I merely commented that whether or not her corporate track record was a success or failure depended on what the goal of bringing her in was. -- Rob
  19. Depends on why she was brought in. That it's possible that we could very likely end up with a clinton vs trump ticket is depressing. -- Rob

Theft of a couple of candy bars and a map. At that level, his theft is probably a psychological thing. A better headline might read "Hypocrite politician is crazy" but then that wouldn't sell as much. -- Rob
  21. We have a history of arming, training, and pissing off our future enemies. I don't know why it shocks anyone that we did it again. (if it even does) -- Rob
  22. I think it's more accurate to say that any time a politician's lips are moving he's speaking for his own benefit. In this case, whether the assertion is true or not, it's deflecting blame from his city and it's laws & policies. -- Rob
  23. same could be said for stupid people voting. -- Rob
