Bill Some of the young officers are looking the other way when it comes to DADT. There are some gays and lesbians serving quite open in their respective units. How can some of these Senators and Representatives who want to keep DADT condone the firing of a model soldier working in a drug interdiction unit just cause he's gay, yet have a recently discovered hitman for a drug cartel (PFC Apodaca) firing Patriot missles at Ft. Bliss, TX Or condone the firing of Chief Operating Room Flight Nurse Major Margaret Witt, an outstanding Air Force Officer, just because they somehow find out she's a lesbian yet keep a straight shrink in Maj Nidal Hassan who had a less than stellar military record at best and went on that murderous rampage at Ft. Hood, TX

Straights and gays are already serving together and some are serving quite open with their commands blessings in defiance of DADT. The shower thing is an overly hashed excuse that has no basis of fact. I served in Thailand during Vietnam with a gay CMSGT and 1st. Lt. No problems at all Nada.

"Oh oh.... the generals and admirals didn't like the bit about getting rid of don't ask dont' tell......those were some serriously icy stares.... but if it lets more closeted republicans serve.. I guess its a good thing.." SNL just poked fun at the speech with their President Obama saying that getting rid of "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" would create 30,000 new jobs and two new series on Bravo. The funny thing is most of the Republicans (excluding John McCain) who want to keep the status quo on "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" have never served in the military. Some have gotten two and three deferments.

John The military is meeting it's recruitment goals however the forces are strtched thin by the constant deployments of one, two and three tours and the reserves are also stretched thin. This is exactly what a retired USA General told Sen Cornyn 4 years ago whe I was in Cornyn's office. Chris

You are quite welcome Mark. Lindsey and I attended and again it was a fitting tribute to a fine man and skydiver. -

I am still finding it hard to post things here. Steve's memorial service was a celebration of life of an amazing man and a fitting tribute to a life that was so tragically cut short. -

I am bringing three sets of photos that I had on my computer from the 2006 Boogiie and the 2009 Boogie with me to Boston Tomorrow. I also have a couple of discs of the same photos. Chris -

Marion In the short time I've known Steve and jumped with him, I made the following comment to him at Cross Keys this August about his barefoot flying. "You and Roger Ponce always jumping barefoot no matter how cold it is" He just laughed it off. He was a fun guy. Chris -

Mark Words just can't express the loss to the sport with Steve's passing. I first met Steve and his partner Adam in Montreal in 2006 and even though I couldn't be on the record dive because of my soft ankle I still managed to jump with him on a few dives. I thoroughly enjoyed our meeting up again in Cross Keys and jumping on the 2009 GWWR RW dive. Every successful skydive starts with a solid base and Steve was in the base on this jump and his flying helped make the dive successful. Steve was just a great all around guy who really liked wingsuiting and liked to share it with others like Belynda said in a previous post. I'm going to really miss him not being their next year at Cross Keys but I know he will be there in spirit with us. Blue Skies Steve Chris -
I have an Optimum 126 in a G4-MT Mirage and an Optimum 143 in a Micron310. In the dry air here in Dallas the Optimum seems to pack up about a half size smaller in my containers although I could put an Optimum 143 in the MT sized Mirage. The container would just feel a little stiff on my back where it feels real good now. The Micron feels real nice with the Optimum 143. The containers don't look sloppy at all and they are not that soft either.

It's in Capital Letters in the title NO FEDERAL PAYMENT FOR UNDOCUMENTED ALIENS. it doesn't say anything about coverage but is implied in the title. The real reason Congressman Wilson Shouted out was that in the back of his head he was probably thinking of the $435,296 in Campaign Contributions his PAC received from the Medical Insurance Lobby. I'm sure he doesn't want to loose this gravy train. How many times did GW lie in speeches to Congress about Iraq, Al Queda, WMD's etc and not one Democrat shouted at him and called him a liar. Congressman Wilson embarrased his state, his district and his party and was just STUPID. Regardless of your politics, the Office of the President of the United States commands respect and Congressman Wilson has none and showed none.
-
The Precise wording is in Sec246 of the bill Its cleary states that it doesn't cover illegals in any way shape or form and its in CAPITAL LETTERS for the benefit of the factually challenged like Congressman Wilson. One thing the President said in his speech has been twisted by one in the media namely Sean Hannity was the line "Now insurance executives don't do this because they are bad people, they do it because it's profitable" Hannity on his show said that Obama called insurance executives Bad People. If that's not a lie than Hannity scored 100% on the stupidity meter like Congressman Wilson.

Yes there are Real Pragmatic and Practical Republicans like Olympia Snowe ,Susan Collins and Ilianna-Ross Leyton and you can probably throw Arlen Spector in that mix but he switched over to the Denmocrats to get away from these nutjobs.
-
Keith Olberman kicked the shit out of him on the Countdown last night in his special comments. His comments can be found on the Countdown website. The real problem with the Republican Party is that the party of Real Statesmen like the late Everitt Dirksen, Charley Halleck and Barry Goldwater has been hijacked by these ultra right wing nutjobs like Wilson etc.

Can you bring a rig on a commercial airplane?
freakyrat replied to Jkralovec's topic in Gear and Rigging
I guess it is hit or miss, I flew Southwest out of Philly back to Big D in August after a weekend at Cross Keys. They had a fire drill at the time and would not let anyone unto the concourse until it was over with. I had my rig in a Eagle Creek Switchback rollaboard and put it though the x-ray and grabbed it at the end of the line. I had the front backpack ( which held my jumpsuits etc), unzipped and sent it through separately with my helmet bag. They didn't say boo or stop me or nothing. I just grabbed the bags and left for the gate. -
In my case and Optimum 126 fits nice in my Mirage G4 MT and the container feels good in freefall. It really isn't that loose. Here in Dallas where it is drier than Houston the regular PD126R in the same container is a bit snug. I could put an Optimum 143 in this container, it would fit but in my opinion it would feel like a brick on my back. In any case the manufacturer knows their containers and what fits.

I have a Unisyn harness on my Mirage G4 and I had a MLW that was too short. I took it by them when I was in Florida. They cut the old pieces out and put longer ones in and I picked it up the next morning. Mirage would be more than happy to fix yours. Also Mike Gruwell at Chutingstar in Atlanta, Ga is a Master Rigger and a Mirage authorized service center and can also do the same work. Chris

Mike You did great and I was real rusty haven't done RW in over a year. But if I fly my floater slot I do just fine. I was a little worried I would leave the plane to early or to late and have the base bump me going out. That didn't happen though. The base was trying to get me to move over towards the side of the aircraft but I didn't know if the camerman was next to me or to the right of the base on exit. Anyway it worked out great for all of us and I was just elated especially under canopy. I got the group picture plus the second point of the dive and the picture that someone took of my Samurai collapsing after landing and had them enlarged at Wolfe Camera and I'm framing them at Arron Bros. and puting them up in my hallway. Again good job and it was fun jumping with you. Let's do that 20-way next Chris

Max I've offered to spring for the colored jumpsuits to do the dive if I would know who is coming to the boogie ahead of time so I could get them made well in advance. It would take a lot of advance planning but would sure look pretty cool in the air. This all started with 7 skydivers on a Yahoo newsgroup and an idea to get together and jump together. Mark took the bull by the horns and ran with it. and he deserves a lot of credit for putting it together. Plus the Cross Keys people were just great and personally I've never been to a more friendlier DZ than theirs. Hey after screwing up on the first 12-way attempt and than changing slots to one I fly best (floater) I was able to fly that with relative ease and the 12-way came together nicely. Incidently I'm 8 jumps away from 2000 and I would love to come back to Houston and make my 2000 with all my friends. Chris

Just a litttle update. I just travelled to Philly on Southwest from Dallas Love Field to jump at Crosskeys. No problems carrying my rig either way. I had it in an Eagle Creek 22" rollaboard duffle. They didn't say boo at either airport and when I left Philly they had a fire drill going on at Terminal E and I felt for sure they were going to possibly swab down the rig but they didn't.

My condolences to Frank who I have met and jumped with at POP's meets over the years. May God bless you and take care of you. Chris Chrzan

Jeff leave the riser covers just as they are. I've never had a hangup on a G3 or my G4. The problem as I see it with some of the spinning malfunctions is a rigging problem of the riggers forgetting to spread the reserve slider grommets apart and not leaving room for the Cypres. This causes a Cypres bulge in to the main container allowing the main bag to turn on deployment as it is caught up on this bulge at the bottom of the reserve container during deployment.
