No more screws and other stories!!
freakyrat replied to KrisFlyZ's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Hey Kris I fractured my large right toe on Superbowl Sunday in a minor accident here at home. It's getting better after about a week but it will be middle March before I can jump again I guess. I'm looking at the weekend of March 20th. or so. It seems like walking funny with the toe taped I seem to be putting a lot of stress on my knee and back. Be very careful out there and really give the foot time to heal. I've broken my right ankle and right heal and when you can run on it it should be strong enough to jump on it at least that is what has always worked for me. Blue Skies Chris Skydive Houston -
Worked great in Ontario, Ca in January. All I actually showed them was the new Cypres card which the supervisor was completely aware of. The screener working the machine was totally aware of procedures for checking parachute rigs also. She just called for a Supervisor to take the bag for a chem wipedown. The Supervisor didn't even open my gearbag. He knew it was a rig and just did the chem wipedown of the gearbag and put the paper in the machine. It passed and he gave me back my bag and I was on my way to my gate. I was flying on Southwest. The screeners at Ontario were totally friendly and very professional. Al I showed them was the new Cypres card which they were aware of. It's really nice when the TSA folks know the procedures and it pays to be cordial and cooperative with them. Just get to the airport early and carry all the documentation if needed. Most of the time you won't need any of it especially at airports with dropzones nearby that see a lot of skydivers. Chris

Flying to Perris, which Airport?
freakyrat replied to dsbbreck's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I flew into Ontario and out of Ontario over the MLK weekend. The TSA people were very friendly and informed me that they just had to do a swab of my gearbag and that they knew it was a rig and that it would pass and when it did gave me back my gearbag with my rig inside and said "thank you and have a pleasant flight" Very courteous and professional. No complaints at all. Chris -
This whole thread was way funny. It's nice that skydivers have a sense of humor. Chris

I saw the play Chicago at the Shubert in NYC after dancing all night at Twilo to one of Junior Vasquez's marathon sets. The jail matron sure had me fooled till "he" pulled off his mask and wig. He got a standing ovation. Chris

TSA letter when traveling with a rig?
freakyrat replied to KolinskyDC's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Just traveled in and out of Ontario, CA from Houston Hobby. At Ontario, CA they just wanted to do an ETD test (wipe down with a special paper and put into a machine to check for explosives) on my gearbag which my Cypres equipped rig passed with flying colors and I was on my way. Only took a couple of minutes. The TSA people were totally up on everything. Chris -
The airport code for Stewart is SWF. Delta Connection Carrier Comair flys there from CVG (Cincinnati). Chris

The real problem with TSA and carrying rigs on the plane
freakyrat replied to Hazarrd's topic in The Bonfire
The TSA people manning the X-ray machines can swab down a rig if they need to so again the rigs and Cypres are no problem. The US Govt along with the manufacturers and the USPA went to great lengths to make sure as did Southwest Airlines behind the scenes. I bet you didn't know that the lithium batteries in laptops are hazardous. The batteries that power the emergency track lighting on aircraft are also. The life vests under the seats have CO-2 cartridges in them. Cypres-style cutters are used in the space programs of many countries to deploy the solar wings on satellites. They are harmless period. As far as the US Govt securing our safety, there were a couple of cells of Middle Eastern Types taking flight training in the Houston and Fort Worth Texas areas. The scrammed after Sept. 11th. Where are they today? Chris -
The real problem with TSA and carrying rigs on the plane
freakyrat replied to Hazarrd's topic in The Bonfire
They let one guy take his hooknife through at Kansas City saying that the blade of the knife was permanently contained or something like that As far as rigs go, the rig and the Cypres pose no hazzard and the new Cypres card clearly identifies a rig and what it looks like going through the x-ray machine. The real problem is they won't let TSA use profiling when screening passengers. -

Pink Floyd in Rice Stadium in Houston. A major thunderstorm hit the place within a half hour from the concerts end and drowned out their gear. The lightning and rain mixing with the lazer show was just awesome. Second concert was Rush at the Woodland's Pavillion on ther Test For Echo Tour. Lazers were just great shooting over everyone's head and just slightly above the hill at the top of the lawn seats. Chris

From what I've seen on the media, Lt. Col. West is withing two weeks or so of retirement anyway. Some in the military chain of command and politicians want to make an example of him and don't know what is really happenning over in Iraq. ThanK God Oreilly is on the case and things will probably turn out good for Col West anyway. Chris

They want to crucify Lt. Col Allen West for saving lives and on the other hand gig MG Clark who was commander of Ft. Campbell, KY during the time of the Barry Winchel murder and an outright base out of control during his command a promotion and command of Ft. Sam Houston, TX. Kind of screwed up I would say.
