  2. Hi folks, Sometimes the actual truth does come out of the mouth of an attorney: Mr. Trump’s lead lawyer in Georgia, said that Mr. Chesebro’s guilty plea appeared to be influenced by “the looming threat of prison time. This is from an article in the NY Times; I hope that this link works: Kenneth Chesebro, a Trump-Aligned Lawyer, Pleads Guilty in Georgia - The New York Times (nytimes.com) Some things never cease to amaze me. 3. Hi Robert, I doubt that the $5,000 is the issue. I am thinking that the issue is that this is the first step for the judge. Then, when he gives Trump some time in jail, he can justify it by saying that he gave Trump a chance with the fine. The first step is always the beginning of the journey. Jerry Baumchen
  4. Hi folks, As I continue to say, 'Trump is his own worst enemy.' A New York judge has fined Donald Trump for violating a gag order in his civil fraud trial. Judge fines Donald Trump for 'blatant' gag order violation - BBC News Jerry Baumchen
  5. Hi jakee, I am aware of those efforts. IMO what this latest petition to the court is to, finally, get a ruling that an ex-president is not above the law. I do not believe that has ever been ruled on by any judge in this country. I may be wrong about this. Jerry Baumchen
  6. Hi Robert, Like all rats, they are leaving the sinking ship. Mother Nature at her finest. Jerry Baumchen
  7. Hi Mark, I may have to buy an airplane ticket & come join you in that effort. In an earlier life, I once tried to drink an entire jug of booze; could not do it. Jerry Baumchen PS) The day we see the orange man in an orange jumpsuit will be a celebration for sanity.
  8. Hi folks, Re: He is subject to the federal criminal laws like more than 330 million other Americans, including Members of Congress, federal judges, and everyday citizens Trump is not "above the law" and should not receive blanket immunity, DOJ says : NPR As I read this article & the position taken by the DOJ, it got me to thinking that this might be the first shot across the bow to have the feds go after Trump. If the judge rules in the DOJ's favor on this petition to the court, that would establish that he is subject to prosecution after he has left office; just like you and I are. Interesting. 9. Hi Don, Here is someone who will probably not be voting for him: “He is unquestionably mentally unstable, and he is racist, bigoted, misogynistic, xenophobic, vulgar and prone to violence . . ." “There is simply no rational argument that could lead me to vote for someone with those characteristics.” This is an excerpt from a new book, written by Mitt Romney, about what he thinks of Trump. He calls out a lot of Republicans for what they are. Senator Mitt Romney, Republican of Utah, makes clear in a new biography that he is not pleased with the direction of his party. Jerry Baumchen
  10. Hi Robert, One thing I have noticed over the years; there is a lot of difference in what one says on stage or at a podium vs what one says under oath. Lying at the wrong time has consequences. Jerry Baumchen
  11. Hi Joe, As I have watched to news since 7 Oct, I have noticed that when any Palestinian is being interviewed, he/her is outraged at what Israel is doing. Not one time have I heard any Palestinian anywhere condemn the attacks by Hamas. So, just who are the bad guys? Jerry Baumchen PS) Yes, I stand with Israel.
  12. Hi folks, Looks like the GOP has quite a way to go: Jeffries leads Jordan; reminds me of the Keystone Kops. Jerry Baumchen
  13. Hi Bill, For some people, the history of the world began when they were born. Jerry Baumchen
  14. Hi Bill, I have read quite a number of books about the European Theater of Operations [ ETO ]. I have always been impressed how some people are the perfect person for that moment in time. My personal favorite is Winston Churchill. Jerry Baumchen PS) For some really good books [ a trilogy ] of the battles against the Third Reich, I recommend books by Rick Atkinson. Rick Atkinson - Wikipedia Publication of The Liberation Trilogy began in 2002 with An Army at Dawn: The War in North Africa, 1942–1943, acclaimed by The Wall Street Journal as "the best World War II battle narrative since Cornelius Ryan's classics, The Longest Day and A Bridge Too Far." While with the 101st Airborne Division south of Baghdad in April 2003, Atkinson learned that the book had been awarded the Pulitzer Prize for history. The trilogy's second volume, The Day of Battle: The War in Sicily and Italy, 1943–1944, published in 2007, drew praise from The New York Times as "a triumph of narrative history, elegantly written...and rooted in the sight and sounds of battle." Volume three, The Guns at Last Light: The War in Western Europe, 1944–1945, was published by Henry Holt and Co. in May 2013, and was ranked #1 on the New York Times Hardcover Nonfiction
  15. Hi Bill, I have read that during the 30's, some of Hitler's generals visited the US. They were able to see a number of manufacturing facilities. Upon reporting to Hitler, they advised him to never go to war with the US due to this capability. He told them that he did not believe them as no country could produce what they were telling him. Guess what happened? Jerry Baumchen PS) Sort of reminds me of someone else who said that he was smarter than the generals. Now, who could that be?
  16. Hi Sky, Don't you mean continuing? And, the GOP thinks this is leadership. OMFG. Jerry Baumchen
  17. Hi Peter, And Bill once told me that he would NEVER give up his C23(b) certification. I would not either. Jerry Baumchen
  18. Hi Bill, Good for her. That is what I really like about this country: You can follow your dreams. Jerry Baumchen
  19. Hi Sky, Terry Baker, Oregon State College [ at that time ], was a Heisman Trophy winner & Sports Illustrated's Athlete of the Year, did not do so good in the pros. One of his coaches, while with the Rams, said that he should go to law school in his off-time [ he had a degree in Mech Engr ]. He did, and went on to a very successful law career here in Portland. Terry Baker - Wikipedia Jerry Baumchen
  20. Hi folks, The insanity continues: One man was killed and another man was wounded in a shooting Wednesday afternoon in downtown Portland . . . at Southwest 10th Avenue and Alder Street, an intersection in the heart of downtown 1 dead, 1 wounded in downtown Portland shooting - oregonlive.com It's early days, but it appears to be a road rage incident. One dead & the shooter fucks up his life forever. What a waste. Jerry Baumchen

  22. Hi Ken, It was a couple of lifetimes ago that I took a class called Statistics for Engineers. The thing that has always stayed with me from that class is to consider Possibility & Probability. Yes, it is possible that Jordan could eventually get the job. But now, we come to the probability of that happening. Not a snowball's chance in Hell. Jerry Baumchen
  23. Hi Bill, And, all of that money does not make you smarter: Rodgers also suggested that he and Kelce each add a partner for the debate. Rodgers said he would pick Robert F. Kennedy Jr. – an independent presidential candidate and noted vaccine skeptic - for himself and suggested Kelce add Dr. Anthony Fauci. Aaron Rodgers challenges Travis Kelce to a Covid vaccine debate - oregonlive.com Jerry Baumchen
  24. Hi folks, Disclaimer: I am an NFL fan; not a fanatic. I simply like to watch the game. I have always felt that aspiring to be professional athlete, while a great idea, has an extreme probability of failure. That is why I think our glorification of college athletes is misplaced; and, that so many of them fail to graduate or get an education that has much value. And, I accept that there are exceptions; this being one of them: Terry Dischinger, former Trail Blazers forward and local orthodontist, dies at 82 - oregonlive.com Interestingly, I had never heard of this guy. Thoughts??????? Jerry Baumchen
