  1. Hi Terry, This 'military rig' thing goes back to '65 when I first became a rigger. I spent a fair amount of time reading virtually anything & everything I could get my hands on. Military rigs (actually, the whole of DoD) do not come under any control of the Dept. of Transportation (FAA being in that dep't.). It's that whole thing about national security, etc. We wouldn't want some GS-5 stopping the F-15's from rolling would we? So when they (military surplus gear) get put into the 'sport environment' they become somewhat of a 'vague' item, IMO. Many FAA documents refer to some military type designation, etc. as being OK to use/mix/match in sport/emergency parachutes. Again, this is where (IMO) things get vague. Just some thoughts of mine, Jerry
  2. Hi Mark, Yes, you are; you're just not in it. I can tell from your write-ups that you are ON it. Keep the + attitude, it will take you far. Jerry
  3. Hi caspar, First, do not stop pondering new things/ideas. As has been mentioned, this is how new things get developed. Second, IMO your system is simply too complicated when not necessary (not a complaint against you, just my thoughts). I'm a 'keep it simple' kind of guy; i.e., the Catapult. Again, keep that mind going. Jerry
  4. Hi Terry, Not to argue, but how did you reach this conclusion/opinion? The whole concept of 'major alteration' of a military surplus rig is vague. Jerry
  5. Hi Thrunderbow, Contact the Relative Workshop; they sometimes have old, unairworthy rigs. I understand that they will donate them for a good cause. Remember: 'I understand. . .' Jerry
  6. Hi Beezy, I, at first, read his post as I think you are doing. I think (?) what he is saying is: The consumer (Joe Jumper) should deal with the dealer (Dealer Diver). They (Dealer Diver) should be dealing with PD . . . Does that make sense now? I hope it does & I hope I got what he was saying/posting. If not, I apologize. Jerry
  7. Hi apoil, If you are going to take on spell checking on this site, you are in for a lot of work. I know I do my share, of poor spelling/typing that is. Jerry
  8. And would not want to hang around with people that did. Yea, sure. Jerry
  9. Hi Jeff, I defer to your observation. Everytime that I saw him (maybe only 3-4 times) after the crash he was in a wheelchair. It always made me cringe to see him. He tried to make the best of it but you could tell it was taking a toll on him. Jerry
  10. Hi Harry, About a week after the heist, I got a call from Personnel (I worked for a US agency) asking me to come over. Once there I was directed to a room where this guy was sitting. He got up, closed the door and introduced himself as a FBI agent. He then proceeded to grill me on where I was, what I knew, did I have any idea on who it might be, etc, etc. Once he decided that it wasn't me we had a great conversation; he was actually quite friendly. The one thing I remember him saying was that they (the FBI) did not have a clue as to who DB was. That was one interesting hour of my life, Jerry
  11. Hi steve1, The Boise club pooled their money and bought a ParaPlane in '68, a blue & white one. I jumped it at Issaquah in the Spring of '68; my first square jump. Damn, that thing was fast. I got it into the Issaquah peas but stalled just a little high and ended up on my butt/back. I think it was either later that year or the next year that the club was doing a demo into a Boise State College football game. Wally was determined to land it on the 50-yd line. He hooked it in and smashed himself up; probably more than just his back. He spent the rest of his life in a wheelchair. Jerry
  12. Sparky, That is not you; quit trying to fool people. You know you only ever jump in an orange jumpsuit. Jerry
  13. Hi FrogNog, So, would that be two canopies attached to the same harness ring? Interested people want you to show us more. Jerry
  14. Jeff, I'm with you on this; not as Mick & Sparky think. Now we'll have to find one (any out there?) to 'know.' Jerry PS) Terry, you got one around?
  15. A couple of options: Busch & Associates, Inc. Brookwood Roll Goods. Just Google them and you should have them. Jerry
  16. Sparky & Mick, I'm not a canopy designer; just a user. If I remember correctly the Navy 26 ft conical had a fabric cap over the upper hem, this therefore means it had no vent. Anyone remember those canopies? Maybe I'm wrong. Jerry
  17. Sparkles, Fess up; you are the one guy who 'calls'em like he sees'em.' Orrrrrr, I would have never guessed that you might actually be kidding. Jerry
  18. Hi Stevehend15, I have read your posts and the replies. I tend to be rather conservative when it comes to all that I have left (the reserve parachute). I strongly recommend a repack. It takes all of your worry away. Jerry
  19. Hi steve1, As I mentioned, I converted a Mk I to a Comp PC and then back to a Mk I again (didn't like the Comp). If I remember correctly on a Mk I there are three small steering slots (maybe only two) and one large steering slot on each side. I think the Comp PC has one more long steering slot. I would recommend that you try to get a picture of a Mk I before you start changing things. Good luck, Jerry
  20. With all the crap you two have been giving me, I think the first drink will be on your (you & Mick's) dime. Jerry
  21. OK Guys, There is nothing funny about that. It's due mostly to luck, not my life style. OBTW Mick, that just cost you the offer of a free drink whenever we meet up. So there. Jerry
  22. Hi Deb, I got an email from Charlie Markin recently and he said that Jack still shows up now and then. Of course, with Al gone, he really does not have anyone to BS with. Often, when I would get to Seattle on business I would stop out at Snohomish and BS with Al, and Jack would usually be there. Jerry PS) We ain't kids anymore, Deb.
  23. Hi Mark, Very interesting. About 10 + years ago, while in LA on business, I stopped off at FXC. They had just tested the prototype ASTRA by cutting a ripcord cable with it. Guess those little charges have some power. Jerry
