  1. Hi Bill, Re: pay is a problem My former wife taught 2nd grade for four years. I would argue that it is not the pay. It is the respect. Nobody is on the teacher's side anymore. When 'Johnny Can't Read' is the teacher's fault, we are doomed. Fortunately, she taught both of our kids to read before they were in kindergarten. Jerry Baumchen PS) And, when you have a problem child along with problem parents, no teacher can get him/her to read.
  2. Hi airdvr, A number of lifetimes ago, when I was a young typewriter jockey in hospitals in Uncle Sammie's Air Force, we did a fair amount of them. I never heard of one being done on a 10 yr old. Jerry Baumchen
  3. Hi Joe, Not a bad deal for any guy/gal who signs up for a part-time welding class at the local community college. Is immediate tenure next? When you dumb down a society, everyone suffers. Jerry Baumchen PS) The cause is retirees do not want to pay into any educational system; they don't need it.
  4. Hi slug, If I tell a friend to burn my neighbor's house down, I am complicit. IMO the fact that Trump was POTUS at the time means nothing. If he was legally involved, he was legally involved. Jerry Baumchen
  5. Hi Robert, This says it all: studied engineering at Pratt but did not complete his degree Jerry Baumchen
  6. Hi Robert, He is a Republican, what else would you expect? Jerry Baumchen PS) It should be GOHP: Grand Old Horse Puckey.
  7. Hi folks, Tick, tick, tick: Looks like time is running out for Mr. Bannon. Judge again denies Steve Bannon request to delay trial - oregonlive.com Jerry Baumchen
  8. Hi Joe, My favorite tv program. Jerry Baumchen
  9. Hi Robert. I absolutely knew he was going to do that. Not one ounce of decency. Jerry Baumchen
  10. Hi Joe, OK, here goes: Do you know what color pattern Pioneer Parachute Company offered the ParaCommander in when they offered the first color patterns other than the very first RWB ones? Just a little history. Jerry Baumchen
  11. Hi Rob, The refusal was based upon religious beliefs. However, the cake shop violated the laws of the State of Oregon. That is where the whole 'fine' thing came into the picture. In fact, the cake shop had agreed to bake & sell the wedding cake until they found out it was for a same sex wedding. Pretty hard to just quietly step aside when you are open for business. Jerry Baumchen
  12. Hi folks, A little update that I can easily support: Oregon same-sex wedding cake case: Labor commissioner slashes penalty for bakery that refused to sell to couple - oregonlive.com Jerry Baumchen PS) Val Hoyle is running for the US House of Reps in a district that has quite a lot of GOP voters.
  13. Hi folks, The Dipping of the Toes in the Water begins: If 79-year-old Joe Biden drops dead or drops out, how prepared will I be to run for president? Opinion | Newsom, Harris, Buttigieg and the Democrats Definitely Not Challenging Joe Biden - POLITICO Open the floodgates, they are coming. And, I'm glad of it. Jerry Baumchen
  14. Hi Bill, Re: All we have to do is keep going in that direction. This - a thousand times this. We are never going back; with the exception of a little pothole in the road due to the Dobbs decision [ anti-Roe v Wade ]. I mean, other than some scared, old, white men, who would want to go back? Certainly, not me. And, I'm an old, white man. Jerry Baumchen
  15. Hi airdvr, Just what is the era that you say we once were? Jerry Baumchen PS) I do hope you do not mean when: - LBGTQA people could not come out of the closet - When abortions were done in back alleys with coat hangars - When a black woman could not marry a white man I could go on, but I think you get the picture.
  16. Hi folks, Somewhat timely article on Newsom: California’s Newsom goes to DC; 2024 chatter follows - OPB Looks like he's going to be testing the waters. Jerry Baumchen
  17. Hi folks, IMO Mark Hatfield ( R-OR ) was the best US senator this state ever had. I did not always agree with him but I always voted for him. these words of Sen. Hatfield: ‘All of us need each other; all of us must lift and pull others as we rise; all of us must rise together – powerful, free, one self-determined people.’ Mark Hatfield - Wikipedia Mark Hatfield centennial celebration, with root-beer floats and former governors, takes over historical society - oregonlive.com Jerry Baumchen PS) He was nine days younger than my mother.
  18. Hi Wendy, I suppose in a really wide horizon look, that may be true. However, Pete G really shined back in 2020 during the Dem's debates when there was about 11-13 of them up there. IMO he answered every question asked [ and quite well ], he never got flustered, he showed me that he is up to the task of POTUS. Jerry Baumchen
  19. Hi Robert, From your link: Apparently fed up with both leaders, Musk has moved on to DeSantis. And I doubt that Musk will stick with DeSantis for long. Jerry Baumchen
  20. Hi Bill, As I continue to say, 'The American electorate is uninformed & prefers to stay that way.' A GOP CongressCritter across the river in Washington state continues to run ads on why the high prices for gasoline is Biden's fault because he is causing the shortages. THERE ARE NO SHORTAGES!!!!!!!! Jerry Baumchen
  21. Hi falls, And, Trump won in 2020; right? Jerry Baumchen
  22. Hi Don, ^^^^ THIS. I am thinking that this is what Joe Weber was thinking in his OP. Jerry Baumchen
  23. Hi Joe, Just this past week I was thinking he would be a very good candidate. He has his detractors in his home state; but, who doesn't. How about Pete G for the #2 slot? Where do I send the donation check? Jerry Baumchen
  24. Hi Bill, Pete B was who I wanted to get the nomination two yrs ago. I do agree that one 'flaw' can still be a problem. It is a damn shame that this country is not yet beyond that. Jerry Baumchen
  25. Hi Ken, I'm with you. Last time around he was in an Anybody But Trump scenario. That will not work in two years. Re: he will need to inspire voters In 2008, a young, virtually unknown senator from Illinois did just that. When I would listen to Obama speak, it reminded me of JFK in Berlin in the summer of '63. When I listen to Biden speak, I am reminded of a very old man. While I wish it were not true, age does take a toll. Jerry Baumchen
