  1. I did the night military jumps and (thankfully) missed out on combat. The HALO and para-scuba sound fun though.
  2. GeekStreak, I live in Rockville and jump at Delmarva. I'm actually taking off work this Thursday and Friday to go to the June Fest Boogie. Wahoo! Now I need to go home and start rolling the coins I'm going to cash in at the bank. I bet I have at least enough change for a jump ticket or two in my piggy bank.
  3. Dammit, Merrick, you beat me to it. See what happens when I leave the computer and come back to submit? Justin "If it can't kill you, it isn't worth doing."
  4. Is that your grade average, or wing-loading? I haven't found an employer yet that cared about my GPA. All the more reason I should have goofed off more. Justin "If it can't kill you, it isn't worth doing."
  5. GeekStreak, You probably have more jumps than I do, but I'll throw in my $.02 also.... I have an RSL on my rig. It came with it, which I considered a plus. Since I'm not that experienced of a jumper, I think the pros outweigh the cons. If I'm going into situations where this changes (CReW, big-ways, etc.), I can also disconnect it before that jump. Since my rig came with the RSL, I can use it or not. If I had to spend additional cash (jump tickets) to have it installed, I would at this point, but probably not once I'm more experienced. I don't really factor the RSL into my training for high-speed mals. I'll pull the red then silver myself, whether the RSL has already worked or not. 6. I wonder if Sangiro will have to reboot the server when it crashes from the flood of e-mails headed your way. Justin
  7. Would you, could you, jump without a plane? Or would you feel that is too insane? Would you, could you, jump from span? Or is that not a part of your plan? Would you, could you, jump from a tower? Or does that thought make you go sour? Would you, could you, jump on Bridge Day? Or does the idea make you say, "No way"? It's a damned shame about the guy "Speed Racer", Because if he was a women I'd have to chase her.
  8. I didn't say it was impossible. You find a partner to do it with you, get the video, and I'll prepare to be impressed.
  9. Would you, could you, from a military C-130? Would you, could you, even if it was old and dirty? Justin

    DC Area DZ's

I'm looking for feedback on dropzones in the Washington, DC area. So far, I've only been to one, Skydive Delmarva. I've liked it, but was looking for the old "compare and contrast" from people that have been to other area dropzones as well. Some of the ones I've been considering simply for variety are: SD Orange SD The Point SD Virginia SD Suffolk Chambersburg Skydiving Center Parachutes are Fun (in Salsbury) If anyone knows the strong points of these other DZ's or things to watch out for, I'd appreciate the feedback. Thanks! Justin
  11. Specializing in night jumps, no doubt. Justin
  12. Now, if someone were to do both kinds of muff dives at once, then I'd really be impressed. Justin PS Pardon my being in the gutter. I was just following the thread.

    38461!

Dangit! I never remember to log in the first post each day.
  14. Grogs, Thanks for being honest and sharing the story. One more thing to add to my gear check list. Justin
  15. My certification went really smoothly in the air. I didn't have to repeat any jumps. Where my problems came in were in the landings. I think I stood up 2 out of the 7 AFF jumps. I didn't hurt myself in the others, and did fine PLFs. And I certainly won't mention the jump where I accidently sailed over the manifest building, hangar, then landed in the *cough* watermelon patch.
  16. Interesting post. I was expecting a question about picking colors for gear, which I would be horrible at doing myself. My eyesight is fine to jump (with correction), but I'd undoubtedly pick the ugliest canopy/containter/jumpsuit combination in the world. I have that kind of visual impairment.
  17. Subject: Re: Roll Call - Skydiving SCUBA Divers I agree with Zennie that people can flip out during either sport. When I was doing my checkout dives in a nasty, cold Pennsylvania quarry, one girl just totally flipped out. She came out of the water in a huge hysterical hurry and I never saw her again. From what her dive partner said, she just totally lost it underwater. Some sports just require a more level head at altitude/depth. Those that can't deal can go play golf or something. Justin
  18. I'd agree with Mike on more skydivers also doing scuba than the reverse. Many scuba emergencies actually have more decision time than an entire freefall, and way more than the actual decision-making window in freefall. Wouldn't it be neat if you could mix emergency procedures? After a skydiving mal, just do a scuba "emergency ascent" back to the plane. ;-) Justin
  19. Good thing I won't owe retroactively for past firsts while in the Army. I already need to bring a case with me the next time I get to the DZ. If I had to catch up on everything, I'd have to bankrupt myself and sponsor a kegger. ;-) 1st jump 1st night jump 1st landing through trees 1st mid-air collision 1st jump on a Dash-1 etc. Another idea is to time your firsts so that they coincide with boogies where free beer is provided. That gets you off the hook for awhile, because everyone is already drinking beer they didn't buy. Justin
  20. Tack one more to the SCUBA-Skydivers list. I got my NAUI certification about 10 years ago. They are both fun, but right now I'm a lot more focused on skydiving. I also did some SCUBA in the Army Reserves as part of Operation REEFEX, which put decommissioned and cleaned equipment on the seabed as artificial reefs. We dropped old tanks from barges. It was pretty neat stuff. Seeing a 50-ton tank go barrelling past you underwater headed for the bottom is fairly memorable. Here is one link: http://www.aquaexplorers.com/tanks.htm If anyone is interested in more info, send me an e-mail. Justin

    sabre

Hmm.. I haven't had any hard openings at all on my Sabre 190. Although I haven't put many jumps on it either. So far, I don't do any of the things people say I should to avoid hard openings. I've been quite pleased with my canopy. Hard Openings? Hah! Try a T-10 with an exit weight of 360. Now THOSE were hard openings. ;-) Justin
  22. Hi. I'm looking for two people interested in doing part of the Skydive U Basic Body Flight curriculum later in the summer at Cross Keys. I don't think I will be able to afford all 20 jumps at once, or have time to do them. I'm looking for two people that want to do 8 to 10 jumps over a weekend. A few would be with video. My home DZ is Skydive Delmarva, and I live in Maryland. Living nearby and being able to jump together first would be a plus. Let me know if any of you are interested. Blue Skies! Justin
  23. C-141 Starlifter. I never did get on a C-5 or Blackhawk jump. ;-( Justin
