  1. Damnit, Dave! Let me keep my redneck misconceptions. It just gives me a warm and fuzzy feeling knowing that all you Texans are just gun-totin', tabacca-spittin', Nascar-cheerin, sister-marrying, elementary-dropout inhabitants of the shallow end of the gene pool. j/k man!
  2. How would you know? Don't you live somewhere that has a Royal Family, granted power by divine right?
  3. That is a slower way to altitude than a Cessna.
  4. It actually works pretty well when the average American is a retarded idiot when it comes to intelligent consumerism. They don't care about the details. If the approach didn't work so well, they would find some other way. So far, there are still plenty of suckers. Personally, I am glad there are so many suckers. It makes things better for those of us that do shop carefully and use our money wisely. For example, it is all the sheep that perpetually carry high credit card balances that allow the credit card companies to make money while offering rebates. I pay my cards off in full every month, but have accumulated over a thousand dollars in rebates without paying a penny in interest. Works for me...
  5. Nigel, I'm sure it isn't easy to find a new job. There are a lot of people here (US) struggling to find jobs as well. People with advanced degrees are looking for more entry level jobs, just because they are available. But I have to ask, when was the last time the UK job climate was really good? From my ignorant American perspective, it seems like it was about 30 years ago.
  6. Abandon ship! Abandon ship! Time to leave and cut your potential losses. Sorry to hear about your news. That is a drag.
  7. Nah... You just need to add one of those "Whirlwind" gizmos they advertise on tv for cars and some of that super-duper fuel additive that is "guaranteed to improve your mileage, or your money back".
  8. My opinion on this was first formed when I was in a military jump unit. All the married guys took their rings off when they jumped. It was actually standard procedure to do so, for fear of snagging something. On a jump last year, I snagged my finger on the door track of a King Air as we did a donut out the door. I left some skin and blood behind, because once the first guy tipped out, I was getting dragged out the door. I splattered his jumpsuit from that small scrape. I can't imagine would it would have been like if I caught a ring on something on the way out the door. For me, the issue of injury is more important than the issue of loss of the ring. But when you add them together, it makes no sense to wear that kind of jewelry while jumping. Just my $.02.
  9. Although I never have been asked to bail someone out, I agree with Chuck. If you do it, do it right. Doing it half-assed only makes it more likely that the friend will continue doing whatever got them in the lockup to begin with, and maybe you with them.
  10. Quade, Inexact analogy. If my friend wants to base jump, does he put others at risk of death? Probably not. And his calling me to tell me isn't like me going to the jail and signing on the dotted line for him. Not at all the same.
  11. Depends on what his problem was. If I voluntarily accept the responsibility by bailing him out, I make his problems mine. If they are beyond my ability to deal with, I might do the best thing for my friend by leaving him there until he can get treatment/counseling/detox or whatever. I can visit and give support without putting my ass in the sling for something they might not be able to control. All I'm saying is that I have the choice of whether or not to take on my buddy's problems. If I do so, I am acknowledging the additional legal liability. It is a decision that shouldn't be taken lightly. If someone accepts the responsibility, they damned well better follow through.
  12. Meathorse, Read the article again. The father (Elliott) isn't in denial that his son did anything stupid. It was someone else (Pangle) that hit is son after being bailed out by the guy being charged (Powell). If I was the father that just lost their kid, I'd be pissed too. Powell kind of opened himself up for problems that he didn't have to. No law said he had to pick the other guy up from jail. If he did, he didn't have to leave him. The drunk could have been left to suck up and deal with his own responsibility.
  13. There are two sides to this one Quade. I was recently involved in a real discussion about this, as someone's child sat in jail. If the single parent signed the (over 18) child out and they did anything, the parent was legally responsible, including abandoning the $25,000 bond. In this case, the parent had no choice but to leave the child there, to get treatment for some psychological issues before being released into the care of a psychiatrist. If this was a friend, not a child, where does the duty lie? If you accept someone into your care, don't you owe it to both them and yourself to make sure they are... cared for? I'd have to say that I'd do one of two things. First, if they had pulled a dumb-ass stunt, leave them there. Second, if I got them out, I'd damned near duct-tape them down until their hearing, so they couldn't get themselves or me in any more trouble.
  14. Lindsey, First of all, that wasn't the scenario described. Second of all, I'm well off student status, but I still have respect for people. It seems to me that some people in this situation forgot about that. I'm not saying that everything always goes as everyone wants, but some consideration might have been in order.
  15. Not only that, but from the description, they pulled rank and basically bumped her off the load even though she manifested first, which sucks. It would piss me off.
  16. Wendy, From what I understand, the closest place would probably be Cross Keys, at about 45 minutes. One of the locals could probably make additional suggestions though....
  17. Skreamer isn't saying they don't deserve a boot up the ass. What he appears to be saying is that using the whole incident as a sales ploy is pretty damned pathetic.
  18. I'm glad you took the chance for a cheap jab that I left for you. I was almost beginning to feel sorry for you, with your boyfriend away at the WFFC and all, getting all the Illinois sheep to himself...
  19. Yeah, it should be, but I'm not sharing.
  20. My totem is Gumby, damnit! He is funny, flexible and made of clay.
  21. My parents still get occasional calls for my grandmother. She has been dead for about 15 years.
  22. Remember who you are talking to. He wouldn't even be able to fill an RJ-45 jack.

    windows help?

I'm not saying the previous suggestion was wrong, but unless you really know what you are doing, leave the registry alone. Otherwise, you can make your computer into a FUBAR paperweight.
