  1. Reading over the last ten to fifteen pages of this thread, I feel compelled to comment that it has been remarkably civilized. I wonder if that is because the majority of my fellow countrymen have chosen not to participate. NacMac, I've been to Aberdeen, but you'd hardly recognize it. I suppose that doesn't really count. My wife and I did visit Scotland on our honeymoon and we loved it. We went through 7 countries, and Scotland was among our three favorites, along with Holland and Iceland. I have yet to get to the Scandinavian countries, Africa, or Australia, but you can all consider yourself warned that as soon as I have the money and leave time, I'll be visiting.
  2. Howard, I'm not confusing the two. Just musing that someone could do an interesting contrast between nitrogen narcosis and hypoxia, even among people that only do one of the two activities. Obviously, there are special circumstances and dangers of doing both in the wrong order.
  3. I think the SIM/FARs say anything over 15k. I'd have to look it up though. Where is Bill Von when you need him? He could give a nice summation of hypoxia and nitrogen narcosis with a handy compare 'n contrast.
  4. If I was really rude, I'd say something like, "Clean the wax outta yer ears, Newbie!" or "Who the F*&k you callin' a whuffo?" But I'm not.

    lurkers..

    * Runs away. Far away * It's the end of the world, folks! Time to die!
  6. I have done both, although I haven't been scuba diving in quite awhile. There are a lot of similarities. On the risk side... I have insurance that specifically covers skydiving. It costs me a surcharge of $2.50/$1000. I think scuba was an extra $5.00/$1000 and learning to be a private pilot was $10.00/$1000. If you believe the insurance actuaries, then skydiving is the least risky of the three.
  7. If we are gonna spend $20 on a decoy, we want it to be usable after the sniper gets caught. We want our money's worth.
  8. I dunno. If it were better looking, inflatable, and anatomically correct, he may have better sales.
  9. I agree with SpeedRacer that the sniper probably lives in the Aspen Hill area. When they had roadblocks up yesterday, he had probably already walked home. But that is just my uneducated guess. This shit is getting really old and frustrating, in many, many ways. First of all, I feel for the victims. They didn't do anything other than be in the wrong place at the wrong time. Next, the shootings are having a huge impact on the people here. Nobody wants to put gas in their car. Nobody wants to go to the grocery store. Nobody wants to do anything that involves being in an outdoor public area. The effects on our regional psyche are pretty dramatic. You can't really tell from news reports, but there is a palpable aura of fear. One of my usual rituals is to put my baby in her stroller about 2-3 times per week and walk to a grocery store in Aspen Hill, where I live. I shop, stroll her around the shopping center, then walk back home. Needless to say, I don't do that any more. I still buy groceries, but I'm not taking her with me, and I don't walk the whole way. We've also become a suspicious group of people, to an absurd degree. My next-door neighbor owns a white minivan AND a white full-sized van with ladders. I think he is a good guy, and I doubt it is him, but the whole point is that you never know. Everyone is scurrying around and playing "FBI Profiler" to themselves. I mean everyone, including myself. You just can't help it. People pretend they know what is going on because they have watched COPS or a few Law & Order episodes. Since yesterday, there were police and media helicopters overing just about over my house. I passed cop cars on every corner on the way to work (3 hours late due to roadblocks) yesterday. I'm not blaming them, but I don't want to live in a place where that is required. I won't move. I just want the sniper gone. Preferably dead. My daughter hasn't been out of the building at daycare in weeks. My wife is a teacher, and the kids have been cooped up with indoor recess for weeks. The patrols have all been pulled inside for their safety. When I pass parks and playgrounds that were a reason I moved here, they are deserted. Some of the woods where the sniper may have fired from have nice paved paths where I want to take Lucy when I teach her to ride a bicycle. She isn't old enough for that yet, but lots of kids are, and they are stuck inside. Basically, I am just incredibly angry at the person(s) causing so much pain and disruption in our lives.
  10. Yeah, I can understand that, Dave. I might be a smartass too, except for the fact that I have a wife and baby daughter. When it comes to them, I ain't laughing.
  11. Congrats. Sounds like you fought a tough battle and won!
  12. I totally agree with you, Paul. I'd like to think that your comments would fall under the "Well, duh! Of course." category, but I know better. Be careful online and don't screw your buddies, folks.
  13. Yup. I couldn't leave my house for several hours this morning because I live so close to this shooting that all the exits out of my neighborhood were roadblocked. This shooting was probably about a mile or so from my house.
  14. Not me, if I'm thinking of the same thing, but I saw a discussion of it go by at some point. However, I don't remember if it was this board or another. (I know, not that helpful.) I find its reintroduction a bit bizarre, considering the history.
  15. Around here, that means Virginia. Southerners!
  16. When she is old enough to jump, she'll be old enough to tell him to screw off too. And I'll have taught her how to deal with horny pervs like him. Hell, I know the type well.
  17. Maybe one day she'll stoop to doing hybrid jumps with her geezer dad.
  18. If you are talking about the kind of child abuse I think you are talking about, then I think she is safe. Her suit doesn't have any grippers, so it looks like she'll be a freefly chick. What's a bellyflier to do?
  19. Cash. The only way to go. Earnings - Expenses = Savings Blow savings on gear.
  20. Hmm. Let somebody grab your huevos to dock in a formation and you tell me.
  21. Dunno, Erno, but believe me, those of us that live in Sniperville are watching the news....
  22. That would be a trip. We'd have to drink beer and bet on how far they go.
  23. Thanks. We think so, but we are a little bit biased. More important than her cuteness is that she is just a really good baby. When we are at parties, she doesn't even mind getting passed around like a hot potato to adoring friends & relatives. Makes no difference to her. She only cries when she is wet, tired or hungry. Fix the problem, and she starts smiling again. None of this "colicky baby" stuff here. No, siree! Can you tell I'm a happy daddy?
  24. "Quality time" ends at "Bed time", which is usually about 9:00. Then she sleeps until about 7:00 in the morning. I have no clue what you all are talking about. Even in the first week she was home from the hospital, she went about 11:00 to 5:00.
