Wasn't sure if this goes in general or gear & rigging... I'm trying to take a packing class next weekend, and I was wondering if y'all have some good pointers so I can make the most of the class. Any questions I should specifically ask, things to doubly make sure of, etc. Thanks a lot! -Alex

Anyone jumping in New England this weekend?
samyueru replied to Hazarrd's topic in Events & Places to Jump
Looks like Pepperell's plane might still be being repaired. Jumptown it is for me! Maybe I'll see some of you there tomorrow. -Alex -

Omni Theater/Boston Area Skydivers
samyueru replied to samyueru's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
For all of you who live near Boston, I heard a cool ad on the radio for one of those shows at the Mugar Omni theater at the Museum of Science in Boston. "Adrenaline Rush: The Science of Risk takes audiences on a breathtaking journey from extraordinary heights, featuring spectacular footage of extreme skydiving and focusing as well on both the biology of risk-taking and the physics that make human flight possible. The audience will meet scientists and skydivers Adrian Nicholas and Katrina Ollikainen, developers of the world's most advanced skydiving wing suit, then witness their dramatic experiment in which the 15th century specifications and drawings of Leonardo DaVinci's parachute design are put to the ultimate test of flight." Sounds amazing. Going to see it ASAP! -Alex -
Thanks for the speedy advice!! I'm interested mainly in style & accuracy for now.. What exactly is a protec? Just a cheapish generic helmet? And I've heard a lot about bonehead.... I'll definately demo some out in the coming weeks. -Alex

Hey everyone - I have some money, and I'm thinking of buying my own helmet. I was wondering if y'all can give me some advice/help me throught he process? Thank you very much!

50's!!!! Keep in mind that I learned to skydive in Australia

So I think it's finally warm enough/I have a free weekend for skydiving again. Haven't done it since florida a couple of days after christmas. A bit nervous when I think about it, but wicked excited to get back at it. (my wallet's glaring at me, though) Any advice? Been reviewing my emergency procedures and everything, but I think I'm going to be terrified on the plane ride up. -Alex
-
Yea, definitely so you can know what it's like to be upside down and be able to deal with it. During my progression, at the beginning, I got upside down and it took a few seconds to get back up - which was def. a little scary. (this was before I was on to backloops) Needless to say, I learned how to do a quick barrel roll that jump. Plus, besides just the instability thing, it's another thing to get you used to skydiving, I'd guess. The more comfortable you are in the air, the less nervous, and more safe.

nah, didn't pay extra..wish I had now... I doubt it's gone through - I put in the application on the 8th.

Got a question.. Last week I signed up online for my USPA membership, so it's still being processed. Can I not skydive in the US until this goes through? I've got my old APF membership, but I'm pretty sure it just expired. Alex

Jumping while in the military
samyueru replied to napaguy99's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
One of the key reasons I'm picking Aviation as my branch choice (fmr army enlisted [MI], now a cadet) is so I'll know other helicopter pilots. That = helicopter jumps!!! Haha, if I can corrupt them enough to overlook someone falling out of their military aircraft. My 2nd choice is Ft Huachuca, Arizona...so good weather for jumping.... I couldn't imagine being told not to jump...I think I'll avoid asking. Hooaaaaah. -
Do you have to wear a helmat
samyueru replied to jump_or_die's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I'm not ready to do this myself...but, what do you guys think about not wearing once once in a while just to feel what its like? Or is even that tempting fate a little too much? -Alex -
I'm starting to get it. Well, no. But I had fun.
samyueru replied to Michele's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Wow, I'm soooo jealous!!!! some day, hopefully I'll get some tunnel time!! For now, waiting for a sunny weekend just to jump. Thanks for the great read..definately encouraged me to start saving for tunnel time (after I buy a rig, of course!) -alex -
wah! I called orange and they're not open on the weekdays yet. I Figured, but still... Spring Break and beautiful weather and no jumping! :( And I've got drill next weekend, so no jumps!!
-
Anyone from Massachusetts thinking about jumping soon with all this nice weather we've got headed towards us? -Alex
-
Yea, they're pretty awful for ROTC. Not nearly as much punch, or fun as they were in the real army!
-
sooo...for ROTC this friday, we've got a military ball. Was all set for my date - and she cancelled on me THREE days before! (job thing excuse...grrrreat) So now I've gotta scrable to find a 2nd-class date. AND IT'S TOO COLD to skydive to release this stress!!! When's it gonna get warm here!?!?

Cold -> wear jacket -> jump = not fun
samyueru replied to vonSanta's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Hmmm.. Guess I'm too much of a wimp to try jumping in the cold...gotta hope for a break in the weather in February. If i try it.. I have a fairly tight jumpsuit - would it be a better idea to try wearing some thin layers under it, or screw the suit and wear some nice polypro etc.? -
Cool - thanks everyone
-
hmm, yea, probably...didn't even count the digits, just looked at the #..sounds good.
-
So, I just got my APF A license in the mail - It says, Certificate A Number 8590, issed to (me) #1146374 Which is my license #? I'm assuming the second one, am I correct? -Alex
-
Sounds awesome...I'm definately going to try and make it down there. (going with the family, so may be difficult) About how much money should I look to bring for about an hours worth? Thanks!
-
oh, keep in mind that AU you get your license with less jumps, so I've had about 5 more fun jumps than US novices of the same number, I THINK.(??)

Hey everyone - Going to florida a week. Debating checking out the wind tunnel in Orlando. Is it worth going to with only 27 jumps? I know there was a pretty specific post in safety & training, but what about it's value to low jump time students? Thanks!
