You're not the first one to make that observation. An exit wound like that indicates that not only did it suck for him, but that it would have sucked for the truly innocent pax who could have been standing or sitting behind him. Can you say...overkill. _________________________________________ -There's always free cheese in a mouse trap.

Recap of what?? Sheesh. From the NY Times: The Miami-Dade Police Department, which is investigating whether the shooting was justified, said it had interviewed more than 100 passengers and crew members from Flight 924 and that preliminary evidence suggested Mr. Alpizar had repeatedly refused to surrender. Chief Willie Marshall... said Mr. Alpizar...reached into a bag that was "strapped to his chest." That was when both air marshals opened fire with multiple shots, he said. The marshals said Mr. Alpizar had said he had a bomb... Mark Raynor, an American Airlines pilot and local union official in Miami, said an account he heard from the plane's captain had supported law enforcement accounts of the shooting. Mr. Raynor said the captain had been outside the cockpit at the time of the shooting and witnessed it... Chief Marshall said detectives were waiting to interview the two air marshals. Unless something changes, I'll prefer to trust the Air Marshal's and pilot's ability to remain situationally aware and recall what was said above the recollection of a bunch of soccer Mom's and insurance salesmen. Caution should always be used peoples lives are at risk. 1. Screeners miss prohibited items every day, and the only person who actually knew what was in the bag reportedly said there was a bomb in it. 2. The wife could have been an accomplice, besides, the guys with the guns were probably focused on the guy who said he had a bomb in his bag, who was refusing to comply with commands, and then he goes for something in his bag....the one he says he has a bomb in. Your version and *recap* of the incident appears to be decidedly skewed. _________________________________________ -There's always free cheese in a mouse trap.

Bad things happen. There was an accident and two pedestrians were tragically killed. The woman left the scene in a panic, called her parents, then turned herself in after she got a lawyer. The victim's lawyer even agreed with the sentence.. "I've never seen a case in my 22 years take on the kind of life than this case has," said Tom Parnell, the attorney for the children's mother, Lisa Wilkins. "I think it's better for Ms. Wilkins and the family to just get this over with." Parnell said he has his doubts about a prison term for Porter. "I just don't think it's warranted." _________________________________________ -There's always free cheese in a mouse trap.

I'm in favor of capital punishment and public access to it, if only to communicate the gravity of the of the decision to legalize it, and also the gravity of the capital offense itself. _________________________________________ -There's always free cheese in a mouse trap.

It depends on what kind of job it is. Sometimes the background check and adjudication for a government security clearance can take up to 18 months. The way they do it is really stupid. The three things that will hold up a background check are; 1) Credit history, 2) How many jobs you have had in the past 7 years, and 3) How many places you have lived in the past 7 years. _________________________________________ -There's always free cheese in a mouse trap.

Yep, and the past CoE chief got fired for telling congress the truth about the direct dangers. http://www.govexec.com/story_page.cfm?articleid=32144&dcn=todaysnews I find it vey telling that Bush's first conference call was to Rove, Card, and Bennett; ruthless political operatives whose only job was to get Bush re-elected and to craft an "image" for the Republican Party... "Ok guys, this is not going to look good, what are we going to do?" Thugs. _________________________________________ -There's always free cheese in a mouse trap.

How much accommodation should a learning disability get?

Seeing is essential to performint the task of flying. If you can rationally determine that spelling there, their, and they're is essential to performing the tasks involved in physics and not necessarily to the job of an engineer, I would think that it is appropriate to grade a physics student on that skillset. _________________________________________ -There's always free cheese in a mouse trap. -
Also...even if you go with an inground pool, don't think of it as an investment that will increase the resale value or marketability of your home. When I bought it, my last house had a 38,000 gallon pool and huge deck that the pool guy said would take $50K to replace, and when I sold it, the pool did'nt affect the sale at all. Pools are like vacations...lots of fun and very expensive. _________________________________________ -There's always free cheese in a mouse trap.

Just got back yesterday from two weeks in lake country north of Toronto. The weather was perfect. Shorts and t-shirt during the day and maybe a long sleeve shirt at night. Get out of the city, Canada is beautiful. _________________________________________ -There's always free cheese in a mouse trap.

Well, that was sort of intentional. I think it encapsulates the dilemma. _________________________________________ -There's always free cheese in a mouse trap.

Yep, it really is a good broadcast. I just can't stomach the network/cable hog-calling format and specious "news", the content of which is determined by Pizza Hut and Wall-Mart. Geez, I'm getting old and cranky. _________________________________________ -There's always free cheese in a mouse trap.

So I tune in last night during the news hour, and switch to PBS. There was a roundtable discussion going on between four non-violent, devout followers of Islam (an Imam, a reporter, a professor, and a student) about the recent Fetwah and the struggle to supplant the hate filled fundamentalists/jihadists as global representatives of the Muslim community and Islamic faith. The message, basically, is that change must start in the mosques and neighborhoods, and that these outspoken and brave revolutionaries for peace need a world-wide platform. Why are we not helping to keep bombs off busses by supporting this peaceful jihad?? This was an important, productive, and substantive news/debate without a loudmouth moderator or 15 second sound bites, the likes of which I have not seen on the networks or CNN/FOX, etc.. WHY NOT?? Is it because when we tune in for the news we would rather hear about the latest fad diet, Martha Stewart, or Michael Jackson? Really? _________________________________________ -There's always free cheese in a mouse trap.

Then why don't you simply have him arrested instead of increasing ghetto drama? Don't talk about it or involve your other neighbors, just take care of it. It's pretty simple really, if it's a felony, (cruelty to animals)...he will learn his lesson. _________________________________________ -There's always free cheese in a mouse trap.

Bush appoints Bolton to UN - recess appointment
gmanpilot replied to kallend's topic in Speakers Corner
I was a Republican fror a long time and when I was young I appreciated Reagan's big-stick foreign policy of the cold war era, because as a nation of individuals and not corporations, I believed Reagan had our best interests at heart. GW is of another breed, however. Anyone with more than one synapse firing knows Bolton is the wrong guy for the job. He will not be America's ambassador, he will be Wall Street's ambassador. Appointing him to the UN is just like appointing the oil industry lobyist as the White House environmental policy director, who summarily manipulated science and edited peer-reviewed research reports to align with the administration's policies. Bolton went to the same school. History will not, IMO, look kindly upon Bolton or GWB. _________________________________________ -There's always free cheese in a mouse trap. -
When I was a kid, we would put a lantern battery behind the commode and run in two wires...bzzzt!! These days, I would go for a more subtle apporach. Some sort of low-load battery where he will just have a puzzled/concerned look on his face when he walks out of the bathroom. _________________________________________ -There's always free cheese in a mouse trap.

Food for thought: I realize taxes suck and jumpers need to stick together, and totally understand getting your own gear out of there,... but risking jail for "emancipating" tandem rigs because someone else didn't pay their taxes, that's a little much. The tax man is a little short sighted too, because he could be flexible and let the dz continue to operate and employ skydivers while garnishing part of the revenue to pay the tax bill. If he finds out that friends of the dzo have snatched some of the business assets, he probably won't be too inclined to negotiate and can be a real pain in the ass for the dzo for years to come. Just a thought. _________________________________________ -There's always free cheese in a mouse trap.

Or even better, the M Coupe. It's a bucket-o-fun, but with fuel prices across the pond, you had better have deep pockets. The 4-cylinder is a great engine though. _________________________________________ -There's always free cheese in a mouse trap.

Make no mistake about it, the contractors are not there because of any altruistic quest for the greater good. They are there for the cash and I have no problem with it, I have many friends doing it. They know it's dangerous and they know there's a probability that they could have to kill to defend themselves or their protectee. Killing for money and protecting for money are worlds apart, yet, the latter often involves the former. _________________________________________ -There's always free cheese in a mouse trap.

While it goes without saying that most Muslims desire peace. It is naive not to emphasise the Muslim community when analyzing the issue of terrorism. The jihadists are supported by a long established and well funded mechanism...ie, the Muslim community (fundamentalist clerics and congregations in particular). The Mafia had a free and violent reign until enough Italian Americans got tired of it. The KKK was a de-facto political entity until enough Southern Americans got tired of it. The Muslim community (specifically) does have a responsibility in this regard. The announced aim of the jihadist is the destruction of all nonbelievers, and their avowed method is indiscriminate and random murder. Until enough Muslims get tired of this and become proactive advocates for a peaceful community, the killings will continue. _________________________________________ -There's always free cheese in a mouse trap.
