  1. I know who you're talking about, and we're still good friends. It sucks that he moved. Not only do I miss my friend, but now I need to find a new rigger too!
  2. I totally appreciate your offer. I definitely wandered over to the school packing area a few times after my packing class saying "Jimmmmmmmeeeeeee.....Helppppppppp!" And he'd laugh and say "you forgot already?!" and show me again. one of the things I really liked about that packing class is that it was made very clear to us that if we ever forgot or were confused about something, to come back and we'd get help. I kept coming back and getting help til I was sure of myself. I must've bugged Jimmy and Doreen and Kai about at least ten pack jobs til I was finally packing over in the regular packing area by myself. I was very, very impressed with the school and the instructors, and especially, their patience with me!
  3. hmm. ok. wouldn't the DZ still have a say in who was jumping each rig? if alternating is the policy?
  4. we weren't building a room. we were building furniture.
  5. but even then, wouldn't the DZ be controlling who jumps what rig and when, rather than the jumper?
  6. I might pay a yearly fee to access a forum, but only if lots of other people did too. A forum wouldn't be fun with only a few members. I would however, probably pay for an ad slot for my web design business, if it were cheaper. I do part-time work for non-profits, private people, or small businesses that just want a basic web presence and don't want to pay out the wazoo for it. When I first found this site, I was thinking "man, a lot of people come here... I wonder if I could advertise." and then I saw the prices and thought "yeep! no thanks!"
  7. and that's exactly why many people here, including Sangiro and several mods, have said that something like talkback is necessary to keep chatter out of other forums.
  8. I don't get your comment regarding the jumper making lots of jumps on rental gear when others had to share. Wouldn't the person who rented the jumper the gear be responsible for who is jumping it and how often? I know when I need to rent gear, and I get to square 1 or ground zero, and the only rig I can jump is already rented, I'm SOL. Its a first come-first serve thing.
  9. did you try asking them? I've had home depot order some pretty odd stuff for me.
  10. no it doesn't. That person could be a full time student. First year med students or law students just plain can't work, unless they're in some kind of part-time or night program. When my friend Christina got accepted to Georgetown Law, she was told "Do not work. You do not have time, and you will suffer in law school if you try." When I start law school, even though I'm going to an evening program, I'm cutting my work hours down to part time so I can keep my grades up. That means, I'll have barely enough money to pay my rent and buy my school books. Skydiving ain't going to happen at that point, and neither is most other kinds of fun. Just because someone currently doesn't have a job doesn't make them lazy. You don't know their circumstances.
  11. hmm... I found something similar at home depot. Look in the "weatherproofing" area.
  12. What kind of glue are you using? That seems odd to glue something to a parachute rathar than create a pocket to help eliminate snag points or just sew it on directly Usually I think your posts are informative but I'm not so sure that glue is the best attachment method. Then again.. you've been doing this a long time. Do you have a link to Gotcha? I've done an extensive search but come up with nothing. um... looks like they "Gotcha", hookitt.
  13. I don't know a lot about f-111 vs ZP other than ZP lasts longer and is harder to pack... why wouldn't you use F-111 for jumping camera?
  14. This year, I had to choose between LASIK and a rig. When I finish law school, I'll get LASIK.
  15. I wouldn't want to turn a hobby into a career. I've known too many AFF Is who are burned out and say that it just isn't fun anymore. What I did when I wanted more jump money: I got a better weekday job. I jumped through a million hoops to do it. Took the civil service exam, went to upwards of 30 interviews. Once I got the job, I moved to a different town, even though I loved the town I lived in, the new one's an hour closer to work. I still have a commute that is roughly two hours each way if I drive, so I take the train and don't have the convenience of a vehicle at work. I got a roommate to share expenses with when I'd prefer to live alone... BUT, what makes it all worth it is that its a nice job, I like it, and it pays me much more than my other job did. I make 10K more than the guy two cubicles over who does the same stuff I do, because I worked my tail off for three years to get a four year degree. In another year, that degree will have paid for itself and then some. I also pick up some other income on the side. I make jewelry. I sew renaissance faire costumes. I do web design for small businesses and nonprofits. When I really need cash, I teach karate lessons, but that, again, mixes a hobby with work, which isn't something I like to do. I asked one of my AFF instructors if he ever did fun jumps. He said "I used to. Not anymore, really. I jump five or six days a week, five to seven jumps a day. I don't want to jump on my days off too."
  16. I would ask the mods if it is the plan for the forum to be kept, and would trust their word on the matter. Course, I'd probably wait a week or so just to be sure.
  17. um... Jimmy already taught me how. I think you were thinking of the other girl who posted that she didn't know how.
  18. what it amounted to was that today I was logging on because I was bored and had nothing better to do on a slow day at work. A few days ago, I was logging on because I really wanted to. Therein lies the difference.
  19. mildly amusing, yes. a service I'd toss money at, no. I didn't have nearly as much fun online today as I did a couple of days ago. if it was still a great place to hang out and BS with friends, that I'd pay for.
  20. LOL. I completely agree. Before my AFF 2, I made my instructor practically take apart a rig (he did everything but actually pull a reserve) and explain to me exactly how it worked. It took away a lot of my gear anxiety and made for a better jump, plus I learned a lot. I'm glad my instructor took the time to do that with me.
  21. I learned about packing and connecting a main at the 3rings as part of my A license packing class. Jimmy at Perris was very careful to go over all of that with us. Stuff like that is stressed to new jumpers too.
  22. the ones in the first picture you posted.
  23. Unfortunately I had to miss this one. When's the next one?
