I voted speakers corner, because there are some who can't just say "he was a good guy, sorry bout Nancy's loss", but have to put in their own political opinions, liberal or conservative. While a discussion may start out as a "sorry he's gone" thread, it won't stay that way, no matter where its posted, so it should probably be in speakers corner to begin with.

I'm thinking toshiba. I'm open to suggestions, though. I don't want a dell...don't like their keyboards. I tried out toshiba, dell, and HP at best buy, and liked the toshibas, best. What I need: 512 meg of ram good quality graphics/video card (nvidia or radeon, I think) lots of hard drive space (60 gig or so) good quality, fast processor wireless internet capable lightweight able to plug in an external mouse (I hate trackpads!) I'm going to be using it for MS Office (word, powerpoint, excel, mostly) and gaming (Everquest and Diablo II, probably). I'm figuring that many of you know more than I do about stuff like this. I've got about $2000.00 to spend. so... this is what I'm thinking of: Toshiba Tecra M2 (customized) Intel Pentium M Processor 1.70 GHz 512 MB PC2700 DDR333 SDRAM (256 MB x 2) 14.1" XGA display (1024x768) 60 GB HDD (5400 RPM) DVD/CD-RW Intel Wireless LAN (802.11g) NVIDIA Graphics w/64MB, Gigabit Ethernet, Firewire port, bluetooth Weight: 4.76 lbs with battery PCABS/Magnesium Alloy case $2100.00

ok. I was just making sure you'd thought it through, rather than just a gut reaction because you'd had an injury on a fairly new canopy. sounds like you've thought it over, and now, you've got a month or two to sell your old canopy and find a new one you like.

I'd fly into ontario any day. much less hassle, security wise, lower fees, shorter car rental lines, less traffic to get whereever you're going. Also, check into flying into John Wayne. Its very close to Disneyland. Ontario is probably about the same distance as LAX is from D-land, but getting to d-land from ontario is a much quicker drive, because there's a lot less traffic. Just take the 15 south to the 91 west to the 57 south, exit Ball Road, head west and follow the signs. From LAX, take Sepulveda Bl. south to the 105 freeway, head East. Take the 605 south to the 91 east. take the 57 south to ball road, head west and follow the signs. Expect to sit in traffic for some time around the LAX area, especially if your flight gets in after 2 pm on a weekday. From John Wayne, take the 5 north and follow the signs.

have you talked with your canopy coach about that? I know you heard from many people that you were ready for the downsize. it seemed like a freak accident to me.

depends on who was saying it, and the context.

hehe... she'll listen to her doctors... no doubt about it. plus, she knows that the second any of her friends at Perris or Elsinore sees her with her rig on without doctor's clearance, someone's going to yank her reserve handle.

relax, Ro... your break was a minor one, according to the doc. have you called an orthopedist yet? or made an appointment with your regular doc? try to see someone today to make sure the x-rays were read right, and to find out about treatment options and all that.

Lost And Loved, Than Have Never to Have Loved At All...
Nightingale replied to aprilcat's topic in The Bonfire
I voted "loved and lost" because each love, even if it doesn't work out, teaches you something, so when you do finally meet the right person, you know what you want, and you know what not to do. -
Feel like crap after jumping?
Nightingale replied to atsaubrey's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Drink more water! my first few months jumping, I woke up feeling AWFUL the next morning... Turns out, I was forgetting to eat and drink enough water. Then, I'd go home, fall into bed exhausted, and wake up feeling like shit the next day. Now, I make an effort to stay hydrated, and it makes a huge difference. -
In case you want to know more about yourself...
Nightingale replied to karrigirl's topic in The Bonfire
Kris, you are somewhat left-hemisphere dominant with a balanced preference for auditory and visual inputs. Because of your "centrist" tendencies, the distinctions between various types of brain usage are somewhat blurred. Your tendency to be organized and logical and attend to details is reasonably well-established which should afford you success regardless of your chosen field of endeavor, unless it requires total spontaneity and ability to improvise, your weaker traits. However, you are far from rigid or overcontrolled. You possess a degree of individuality, perceptiveness, and trust in your intuition to function at much more sophisticated levels than most. Having given sufficient attention to detail, you can readily perceive the larger aspects and implications of a situation or of learning. You are functional and practical, but can blend abstraction and theory into your framework readily. The equivalence of your auditory and visual learning orientation gives you two equally effective sensory input systems, each with distinctive features. You can process both unidimensionally and multidimen- sionally with equal facility. When needed, you sequence material while at other times you "intake it all" and store it for processing later. Your natural ability to use your senses is also synthesized in your way of learning. You can be reflective in your approach, absorbing material in a non-aggressive manner, and at other times voracious in seeking out stimulation and experience. Overall you tend to be somewhat more critical of yourself than is necessary and avoid enjoying life too much because of a sense of duty. You feel somewhat constrained and tend to sometimes restrict your expressiveness. In any given situation, you will opt for the rational, and learning of almost any type should be easy for you. You might need certain ideas explained to you in order to fit them into your scheme of things, but you're at least open to that! -
:2:0 1 hop n pop at Elsinore on friday. 1 jump at MJ's two way camp before James and I decided that the fourth dust devil rolling though the landing area meant that it was time to quit for the day.

I log it with my skydives, but I keep a separate total for "tunnel time" and don't include it in freefall time: example: two way, time: 60 sec. total time 00:52:41 tunnel, time: 5 min. Total time: 00:31:00 two way, time: 60 sec. total time: 00:53:41 tunnel time: 10 min. total time: 00:41:00

although Federal law is 40 and over, most states have non-discrimination laws protecting age starting at 18 (protecting the employer's right not to hire a minor)
-
Age is a protected class as well.

I'd put the last sentence of your "objective" as the first sentence, but other than that, it looks good!
-
I have the video of our "blender jump". James is going to put it up on skydivingmovies.com. =) I'll let ya know when he gets around to it.

Yup... the road to Hana was much fun! My uncle rented a mustang convertible, and I got to ride shotgun.
