Some larger ppl and smaller for that matter are not willing to give up the mechanical advantage that the large rings afford them on a cutaway. That would be probably the best reason not to go to mini risers and consequently mini rings....to that point I have mini risers and rings.

ok for real this time any info on the JSX

I with you on that one, but more from the business than the winning, as long as ppl are still buying velocities their not going to release the Z-brace, so stop buying them, we'll force it out of them It make sense, I don't know what R&D on a canopy cost and bringing it to market and advertising and all that other jazz but I'm sure its a pretty penny...their going to ride on the back of the velocity until it can carry them no longer, the second Jim releases his new canopy and it takes away from their profit margin they will introduce their Z-brace to the market....I reference the Katana to the crossfire2 -
If you get the 135, grab a 150 while your at it, I'm sure you could sell it to some1 and double your investment.

Yeah, I'm a GOD. Well, my wife and dog think so. Okay, my dog thinks so. Then again I'm picking up HIS poop. He probably thinks he's your GOD

Stiletto vs Crossfire2 vs. Katana
jenkincb00 replied to nepalaw's topic in Swooping and Canopy Control
if your willing to get out of the plane in this weather at 18,000 ft I'll drive down tonight. I'll go to 2k that is enough altitude for me. -

Stiletto vs Crossfire2 vs. Katana
jenkincb00 replied to nepalaw's topic in Swooping and Canopy Control
my posted wing loading is wrong, more like 1.7, I have jumped with weights pushing it to 2.0 I do a snappy turn most of the time but even with a slower carving turn I believe a 270 to the ground from a 1000 is an exageration, 700 maybe but not 1000. Shoot the video and proove me wrong or hell just do it and tell me I'll take your word, but I would like to see the technique used. To the other point, three 360's in one direction does not equal 270 to the ground from a 1000 ft. -
Stiletto vs Crossfire2 vs. Katana
jenkincb00 replied to nepalaw's topic in Swooping and Canopy Control
I would like to see video of that, I think you are way over exagerating both the lightness of the front riser pressure and the canopies ability to dive. I don't know how many Katanas you have jumped nor their sizes or wing loading but I haven't had that experience on my katana. The wing recovers much quicker and the riser pressure does build to the point that you can't effectively hold the risers down. -

But just because you let up because of pressure doesn't mean the canopy stops diving and you can't just hold the fronts down because of the lighter front riser pressure. And if you do you actually slow the canopy. I know when you hold a riser down past a certain point on my Katana I can feel it actually slow down. Letting up actually serges the canopy this is why your argument to me doesn't make sense. you can't just "get any turn to the ground because of the riser pressure" that is just total bs. The canopy is actually more responsive so you have to hone your set up even more it makes it more challenging for the perfect set up IMHO. If it was that simple then no one would jump a VX everyone would jump a Xaos for the margin of error that it would provide. and I wouldn't be jumping a katana I'd be jumping a XF2. Final point, if any1 gets "lazy" under a Katana or XF2 they will be injuried or worse, they are not X-braced but they are fast diving machines and just because you let up doesn't mean the canopy will. -

ok, but that doesn't answer the question. Do you or do you not believe that lite front riser pressure is a crutch? Because I believe it to be more of a "tool" and a useful one at that, not a crutch. And I would venture to say that most canopy pilots/manufactures would agree I haven't seen a manufacture advertise "highest front riser pressure on the market" as a marketing tool yet, I have seen it the other way around. -

You actually believe this? so is the lite front riser pressure of a Xaos in comparison to a VX a crutch? -
Discussion on that rear-riser tandem swoop.
jenkincb00 replied to Mikki_ZH's topic in Swooping and Canopy Control
Landing on the butt is not more dangerous than attempting stand up landings, that is dissinformation. Across the board slide in landings are the safest for tandems. -
Discussion on that rear-riser tandem swoop.
jenkincb00 replied to Mikki_ZH's topic in Swooping and Canopy Control
what type of approach does he do? I'm a TI and I personally wouldn't purposely attempt landing with the rears but it looks like he does a good job. The more I travel around the more I see TI's "hooking" tandems in it looks cool but I prefer to save the hooking for solo jumps. Thanks for sharing the pic. -
Didn't miss the point, I understood what you were saying, merely bringing it up because many other ppl read these post and apply it to their personal situation, I personal jump a Katana 107 myself and agree that he could probably transition without a problem. I'm not a canopy nazi by any means I just don't think canopy selection has anything to do with container size, if the canopy that you need to fly doesn't fit the container you own wait piece the system together when you get the coin that is all I was saying. I know you're a safety guy skymonkey and I'm sure you agree with that in a broad sense perhaps not specifically for this situation but in general.
-
Wouldn't it be smarter to buy a canopy based on what A) you can safely fly B) goals you have set for yourself C) never buy a canopy based on what fits in your current container if the 103 fits and that is what you can fly safely and fulfills your goal(s) great if it doesn't fit save until you can buy a new or used container that fits properly. just my 0.02 take it for what its worth

Word on the runway is that they have actually been rescheduled until 2006, but don't fret, it will still be called the "2005 pond swoop nationals"

assembled and inspected in 4hrs? How long does it take to get the metal in the reserve flaps to aid in opening? I'm not a rigger but I have talked to several about the Quasar II and haven't heard anything good about it (these riggers owned Quasar II and now wish they didn't)

I understand everyones concern for this jumper's question and I understand that questions such as his has been ask many times over (I don't post much but I read almost everything in this forum). People in this forum are very passionate about both skydiving and safety and I appriciate it. However, as a person who works with youth we all know that if you tell someone not to do something, chances are their going to do it anyway. IBX: These people care about you enough to piss you off, please heed their warnings. Fellow posters: I understand your frustration but please understand when you put someone down or make fun of their questions like some have you're just pushing them in the direction you don't want them to go in. Just my opinion. Keep up the constructive critisism, just don't forget the most important part of your post of these types CONSTRUCTIVE

They were talking about students who may be hanging around just waiting to jump or just watching landings
-
I totally agree. I just wanted to know if anyone else had similar experience, I happy to say that most of the people who have suggested not swooping at all because of influencing students have changed their minds, I'll work on the rest of them next wkend at safety day
-
As I progress as an instructor and swooper thats what I generally have been doing but last summer several experienced skydivers thought it was unsafe for me to be swooping on coaching jumps and the like because it was "a bad example" to be setting for students. Even though I took the time to explain to the students that the HP landing that I would be attempting (mostly 90s or 180s) was an advanced landing and they should concentrate on their straight in approaches. Essentially a do not try this at home disclaimer. I don't think that I should have to not have the most fun I can just because I'm coaching.
