  1. Big thanks to team Mojo for the great tunnel camp last weekend. Ron Hill, Alex Pincus and Chromy... you guys were excellent coaches... each with your own style that meshed well with everyone in our carolina group. This was my 3rd Mojo Camp and they just keep getting better and better... Whatever your secret is, keep it up! I cant wait for the next camp. Ron: thanks for taking time at the end of the camp to talk with us about team dynamics and what you think it takes to make a successful 4 way team. The discussion was very enlightening and helped put several things into perspective for me. Thanks for showing me the "turbo-button" in my 360/540's too! . Also, your work with Insane in the Plane... wow... those guys cleaned house in the CaSL. Alex, Chromy and Ron: Thanks for the comments and tips during our 4 way sessions. Those little observations you guys made were very helpful. Some of the drills were challenging and sometimes pedantic, but you guys made them fun. See you guys in Feb? Oh, Yeah... Alex, thanks for the beer at the airport... and of course, the late night tunnel session last camp!
  2. I have one word for you... Action Hank... well, I guess thats two words...
  3. Hey! Just cause I'm wearing booties doesnt mean I'm flying on my belly. I wont be able to make it tomorrow though. I F'd my shoulder up in my soccer game yesterday... so I'll be on the ground for a little. Mike (do you have a mike number yet?): Yes... its SkyBlade from now on... haha
  4. haha... yes. as long as you wear something other than those colorful freefly pants of yours. Find something more suitable to a BK jump... something with black, white, grey... maybe a little brown in it.
  5. Yeah, we missed you Ellis. Wish you could have been part of the catapult. I still think we can do that again... this time on purpose. haha BK's: I think its time we put all this internal turmoil to rest and settle our differences in the sky. Can anyone say, SPEED STAR!
  6. I dont agree with that... and werent you banished from the Order of the BKs after the dodgeball game? Karen- We miss you and Stuart very much.
  7. Hey Katie! I miss jumping with you and heather (and greg too ). haha What happened to ICE?
  8. Marci (haha), congrats on your 500th! That hybrid was so much fun... and the video makes it all make sense now. I wonder if we could do that again on purpose? I bet the BK's could pull it off. Speaking of which... I think youre right... speed star this weekend and all the BK No's are up for grabs. Dawn #2, congrats on the 200th!
  9. hmmmm... too many exclamation points. Sounds like you have been hangin out with Ellis too much. Speaking of which. Ellis, we need to talk. Your use of the exclamation point has just gotten way out of hand... consider this an EP intervention. Dawn #1: sorry to hear about your cold. Yurginix is also under the weather. He seems to think that the BioGen group did some kind of bio thingy to the DZ while they were here... maybe he's right...I dont know... I just do math... but not that arithmetic crap. See all ya'll (yins) tomorrow...
  10. Sweet! I'll bring the glue... (insert evil laugh here)
  11. The wind board is updated in the morning and then adjusted throughout the day if major changes are needed. The board stated the ground wind was 15 at 050 and at 3000 ft it was 28 at 060 (and around 30 for 6k, 9k and higher). I think that was relatively accurate, however I think at 1000 ft the winds were closer to 28 than they were to 15. That might explain the lack of penetration into the wind during the first part of your final approach. Oh ya, ask John Lyman about the notation on the windboard (or one of the other instructors for that matter). He will even tell you how they decide what jump run should be given the condition of the winds.
  12. I was on that load too and landed in the same field (There was poop in them there hills!). The winds were not at 30mph, they were at 15. Also, the reason the "spot was bad" for the people in the back of the plane was because the 8way took much longer than the 6 second exit separation on that load... most of the load landed on the DZ.
  13. No 3 got demoted to No 4, leaving a vacancy in the No 3 slot. Its the first time in the history of the BKs that this has ever happened. Looks like we are looking for a new No 3... (haha)
  14. Beer light is usually *after* the last jumper is back on the ground and the planes are tied down. As far as what type to bring... bring what *you* drink. The sport-beer cooler is right around the corner from manifast. And No 3... didnt you get demoted to No. 4? See you guys this weekend!

  16. Well... it is freefly fridays... so leave your belly-suit at home! See you guys tomorrow!
  17. AAAHHHHH! You Bastard... Now that song is stuck in my head again...
  18. ya, but sqrt(xy) = sqrt(x)*sqrt(y) is only true for non-negative reals....
  19. http://www.cnn.com/2004/TECH/space/01/13/mars.rover/index.html Quote: Spirit's parachute opened 4.6 miles above the Martian ground as the craft traveled 920 mph. The parachute slowed the descent rate to 152 mph --slower than expected. "[At] 152 miles per hour, the vehicle is actually going 30 miles per hour faster than a skydiver with the parachute open," Manning said. "So we are going very fast, and in fact in our animations, some of the early animations we've been working on, you can see the ground coming toward you, and you realize robots have nerves of steel ... or copper as the case may be. It is nerve-racking to see the ground come at you that fast. But it worked fine, apparently." Braking rockets fired as planned, and the lander bounced 28 times before coming to rest in its target zone: the Gusev Crater, a nearly 100-mile-wide pockmark just south of the Martian equator.
  20. Actually... I dont agree...I really cant think today... To calculate the average velocity, calculate the distance at each time using y(t) = -9.8/2*t^2+1000. Then the avg_vel is change in distance / change in time. This results in: -20.0900 for (2,2.1) -19.6490 for (2,2.01) -19.6049 for (2,2.001) -19.6005 for (2,2.0001) the avg velocity approaches -19.6. The instantaneous velocity at t=2 is given by dy/dt = -9.8*t which evaluated at t=2 yields -19.6. So in the limit as the change in time goes to zero, the avg velocity approaches the instantaneous velocity.
  21. That looks good... but dont you mean velocity requires direction also, since it is a vector quantity... and that makes speed the magnitude of that vector. Math is cool.... and I cant think straight today...
  22. The way I read that is to calculate the average velocity on the following intervals... (2,2.1) (2,2.01) (2,2.001), etc... The open interval is shrinking closer to the point {2}. Then they want you to compare the avg velocity with the instantaneous velocity at t=2. Its analogous to the secant line approximation to the slope of the tangent line. Does that help at all? So you prob want to calculate the average velocity by: v_{avg} = change in distance / change in time for those intervals and compare that to the instantaneous vel you get by using the time deriv of the position. Does *that* help?
  23. "Toggles! Get your ass over here!"... I like it... time to get another dog... Both my girls also respond to "Stinkies", "Stinker" or just "Girls". I wonder if they think I cant remember their names...
  24. My girls are named Joxer and Zoe... But the name definatly has to pass the "Hey ______, get your ass over here!" test.
  25. Does anyone who wears earplugs notice a difference in the way your body reacts to the pressure gradient with them in? Do your ears "pop" more or less with them in or is their no distinguishable difference? I too was thinking about wearing ear plugs but the idea of sealing up my ear cavity while going through the change in altitude makes me a little nervous. -bb-
