Does anybody know the NPS' logic (rational or not) around permitting hang-gliding? I seem to recall some discussion around fixed-wings vs. airfoils in some older posts. It would be helpful to understand the precedent that was set allowing hang-gliding. I like the momentum this is gaining. I know it's a lot of Internet talk right now, but I really can see this going somewhere. -C.

With the $20k figure Abbie proposed, we donate the remaining amount to a charity, after any of those pesky legal fees or fines imposed on us by the NPS. "Well, we had $20k, but X amount of that went to 'overhead'..." -C.

Awesome news, Russel! My newest rig and your rings are being shipped today. I'll get them to you soon. Glad you're back. Looks like I'll be jumping again in the next couple of weeks, too.
-
Knew what you were saying, man. I was just playing with the additional banter that should be in a separate forum. (See? Did it again.) I like Abbie's take on it all, particularly this statement: It's not a stab at any jumpers out there individually. It's they way we'll win this and jump legally. As for your ability to jump NPS lands, you know what I'm willing to do. Name the time and place. -C.

What? As opposed to Abbie!?!? Just kidding both of you. I'm all over his plan. -C.

Now the rangers know where to send the pizzas. Good stance, Nick. -C.

Dude, you know I'm in. -C.

Well there's a challenge. Let me know if we're still friends after you come back and check your Email next week, Jaap. -C.

By this post, I can count three of us in the thread that have recently had surgery. But I'm sorry, Jaap...I'm fresh out. -C.

This what they're paying you to do on your last day, Mr. Maashal? -C.

I'm willing to make the trek and be present, but I'd like to defer to the locals (are there any true locals) and be there in support. Having not jumped there, it's my thought that we should certainly be represented by some of those who have, if possible. -C.

Just some clarification from Nick's article... The article specifically mentions Snow Canyon State Park in southwestern Utah, which is just NW of Ivins, UT. The pictures in the article are of a well-known, oft-jumped E in Moab. Are we jumping to conclusions here about one location vs. the other? If we are, the differences in the two are that the majority of the heavily jumped E's in Moab are BLM land, while the area described in the article are Utah State Parks. Those are two distinctly separate "authorities". Personally, that's only a small part of why I jump, but once again, that's the statement the media's always looking for. -C.

Congratulations to Katie, John and Steve! -C.

A suit, tie...and Hanwags (http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?post=1690412#1690412. The look that's always classic. -C.

Tuned mine while I was working up to solid objects. Wasn't happy with what I was getting with factory deep brake settings, so I took the canopy to ToddS at Apex Perris. He made the factory DBS' slightly shallower (to accomodate the bar-tacks) and added in an additional, third setting. I've been EXTREMELY happy with them and they helped a lot when a certain game hen PCA'd me one time. -C.

Tom, I thought this was a great point and deserved repeating. It's the perfect counter-argument to "So-and-so said I'd be 'just fine'." Oh, really? If that's the case, why don't we see So-and-so splitting more hospital time. Not sure how or if it factors in with this jumper, but I'm glad to hear he's okay. -C.

What would you do if .....

Knowing where you live, Clint...? I'd check the winds and head into BLM land for the day. Sucks about your pilot, man. Sorry to hear that. -C. -
I get to speak with a Federal Psychological Evaluator

Hey, Tim. So, maybe I'm missing something here, but how'd The Feds get involved instead of the local police? -C. -
And this is the thread for it...

I gotta echo this as well. For all the shit I like to give him here, over Email, in person...he's a good guy to jump with. First jump I ever made with him, I didn't know what to expect. I'd met him once in Moab and, well, anyone who was there or has met him knows what I'm talking about. I didn't know what to expect at the exit or on the way to it. But I was impressed with everything he did, except maybe his PCA skillz. I could say a lot of complimentary things about a lot of other jumpers here, too...and you all know who you are, but I'm going to leave this post as it is and just work to damage Abbie "Stiffler"'s reputation alone. -C.

Eric, I was there with Abbie, too. You met us while we were in town with Jaap and Russel, as well as a couple other guys from CO. Hung out with us while we (and your buddy Paul) were packing, and came out with a few of us to the exit. I'm gonna echo Jaap and Abbie's sentiments. Not knowing if and who you took an FJC with, if you haven't, it'd be a good idea and would help you get setup with more experienced jumpers like Jaap said. Hell, I'm no mentor and Abbie only takes scantily-clad underage students with no previous skydiving experience. And again, since jumpers before us showed us the objects, if you were to burn one, once we killed you, they might still come after us. I think you said something about jumping at Perris during the week. If you're still doing that, pop over to BR (edit: Apex Perris) when they're open, if you haven't already. That would definitely be a good start. -C.
-
I know it's not the same, but maybe Abbie will grace us with his presence. I've put him on notice to get back to non-sensical posting and frankly, I think he's falling short of his commitment. -C.
-
-Cornishe Which, if anyone does any Interpol research, will find is actually one of Abbie's aliases. It's open-season and he's Deathcamping everywhere. He's got THE BEST stairwell training of anyone. Love ya, man! -C.
-
Thank you, Abbie. That's more like it. As for walking off, good call. Sucks that the winds didn't cooperate, but you needed the exercise anyway. -C.
-
Yeah...when I first saw the clip, I was like "WTF?!" I couldn't believe what I thought I saw. Glad that I just hadn't seen it right. Thanks for the reply. -C.
