  1. Flight Concepts Sharpchuter 245 loaded 1:1 (do the math), its been a great starter canopy but the Tri would be a good up grade. Sabre 2 210 will be my next. Blue ones Jim
  2. Try ladera cuba... they fly mi-17's and go all the way up. . Wish I could go. Damn US travel restrictions. Blue ones. Jim
  3. I was instructed that you don't let up if your that low...rather prepare to plf the landing. And after seeing someone smack themselves 3 times it has further reinforced this point to me. A stall at 5 ft. with a good plf probably won't hurt you.
  4. On Jan 4th a jumper with greater than 50 jumps sustained a knee injury from a hard landing. Winds were light the jumper was setup nicely into the wind for landing. Shortly after coming to full flare about with 5-7 feet of altitude remaining the jumper raised her handles rapidly and completely. The canopy immediately dove and smacked her into the ground pretty hard. It Looked pretty ugly but don't think she tore the ACL. I have witnessed this 3 times previously by this jumper and am concerned for her well being. It appears that when she flares just slightly too early she's afraid of stalling the canopy and so lets up on the toggles. As a low timer i'm hesitant to give her advice on this but have talked to 2 of the more experienced jumpers at the DZ and asked them to tell her not to let up on the toggles. Any suggestions or comments would be appreciated Thank and Blue ones Jim
  5. Can you post the website thanks Jim
  6. Big thanks to Melanie, Meryl, Ron, Bob and the others on the 5 way and the hoop dives, I had an awesome time!!!... Can't will till my next trip to SD to visit Elsinore again. Anyone considering a trip to Southern Cal should try to make it out there its a great vibe for both belly and freeflyers. Oh well Eloy for New Years,,,have a happy one Blue Skies Jim
  7. Hey, I'll be visiting Elsinore after christmas (flexible on the days. I had some similar problems learning to land my new canopy. (dz elevation 4300'). You'd be amazed how more experience under the 210 will translate to better landings. A canopy control course would be excellent if you can make it to one. But there should be some old hand at the DZ willing to give you some coaching on landings (if not come see us in el paso plenty of coaches willing to help you out.) Video taping your landings is a big help... you often find what you think your doing and what your actually doing are 2 different things. I'd be more than happy to film the landing for you. (bring a digital 8 tape if you want a copy) just PM online. Blue ones Jim
  8. Had the same problem on student gear... Tries the bike shorts (no help really) tried multiple layers (not much help.... Bought inexpensive rig $2200 new ordered it to fit me and havn't had a problem since. I now look forward to being under canopy. Blue ones Jim
  9. I am going to be jumping a several different elevations over the X-break and was wondering how much the change in elevation from my home drop zone will affect the flight characteristics of my canopy. I know that higer elevatioin will be faster than lower....just looking for more quantitative answer. The elevation at my home DZ is approximately 4300MSL (fast air) Thanks Jim
  10. If out alone or first out I would track off the line of flight 90 degrees for at least 10 seconds get into a good position, make certain that the air space is clear and pull high.... would rather have the long ride down than bounce.... But that's just me blue ones Jim
  11. Its your call (if your licensed) but... You should at least do a little more research into the scenarios in which an AAD will save your life. Some have been mentioned above. Also read the incident reports over the last 10 years or so and you'll see that several people have been saved by their AAD... and many more possibly would have if they had one in their rig. Bottom line is don't make a gut decision on this one. Do the research and make an informed decision. Blue ones Jim
  12. Can you posta pic of the finished product??? Thanks Jim
  13. Ive got the Z1 and love it. The flip up lens is great and you can beat the fit. The only thing they could improve on is making the lens scratch resistant. If you look at them wrong they get a scratch. Blue ones Jim
  14. When put in a situation where you have to make a 'Low" turn, Is a braked turn better than a rear riser turn??? And Why? Thanks Jim
  15. the tube stows i purchased are too big for my micro lines. I purchased the small ones but still too big. I need the manufacturers web address or instructions on how to make them smaller. Blue Skies Jim
  16. I'm looking a purchasing a new AAD and i'm looking for some pro and cons on the vigil vs. the new cypress Blue Skies Jim
  17. Yeah I got one with my first rig. Smart 220 Got the opportunity to jump as my lines broke on my main canopy the first time i jumped it. (cases of beer were spewing out of me that day). as to opening the reserve it was quick with a sharp bite. as to flight characteristics it was relatively responsive (though i flew it ultra conservatively). The glide on landing was much longer and faster than I was used to. (just came off of student canopy PD300 nine cell). Flare was a little weak but still almost stood it up. (went to one knee after running it out... I go about 240lbs with gear) If you need anything more specific just let me know Blue Skies Jim
  18. Thanks for the direction. I see now that flat turns are just another way to say braked turns. (let me know if this is not the case. Still practice those every time down. (learning the characteristics of my new canopy) looking at the last post now it seems that the flat turn is initiated before going to brakes, so not the same as a braked turn (thanks for the link to the billvon post) blue skies jim
  19. Ive been reading about all the incidents involving low turns and their disasterous results. The one thing I hear over and over is that that everyone should be more profficient at "Flat Turns". Can someone elaborate more on what a flat turn is. Blue Skies Jim
  20. Yeah after the lines broke (all brand new out of box that day) I sent it back they put 825 spectra (525 spectra originally) and sent it back. missed one weekend of jumping. It was a different feeling donning that rig after the lines broke on the first jump. But all went well on jumps 2 thru 7. Just not have the accuracy or the soft landings yet. (i dz landing area is relatively small. Though I'm able to stand up the landings it seems to take alot of extra effort. My exit Weight is 235lbs. I guess a more appropiate question on the canopy is ... to get maximum flare should I be usining no brakes until i flare...1/2 brakes till i flare etc.??? I look forward to jumping somewhere that has nice soft grass instead of rock hard dirt... blue skies Jim
  21. After comming off student status I purchased a new set of gear with a 7 Cell Main (sharpchuter 245, f-111). This will be my transition gear ($35/ jump was limiting the amout of jumping I was doing.) to get my experience level up. I have 37 jumps now 7 on the new canopy and could use some extra pointers on how to best land this canopy. Its so different from the pd 300 9 cell. thanks in advance for any help Blue Skies Jim
  22. This is probably a stupid question... but.... why are the lines not labeled. Like A1L,A2L,A3L,A4L B1L,B2L,etc. Im trying to learn how to propack and am having difficulty identifying which lines are the a lines, b lines etc once i have the nose flaked and between my thighs. Would it be crazy to lay the canopy out and mark the lines with a felt tip marker??? let me know Blue Skies Jim....the ignorant one
  23. That is a great link Im already getting better at it thanks Jim
  24. Ive recently purchased my own gear and am learning how to pro pack it at the drop zone. The problem is every one does it a little different and the drop zone is only open on the weekend. At this rate it'll be forever before i learn well enough to do it by myself. Does anyone have a link to a site that has a good discription of how to propack so i can practice at home???? Blue Skies Jim
  25. two lines broke in the middle and the other line seems to have come off where is was sewn to the canopy
