Hi Nick, was re-reading through the forum history a few months back, is some really good reading there if anyone is ever bored, some great storys and stuff. anyway I remember you saying just after dwaynes death, somthing along the lines of "I never knew what my trampoline was capable of till he jumped on it" I think it was your tramp. what kind of stuff was he doing on it ? and what kind of stuff do you do on it ?

what about hips, does a bad hard opening like you had expected, smash ya hips up or what ? reason I can't skydive is it smashed me hips up, like my hips were fine, then after jumps they were fucked. then after a few zillions scan's , blood tests, weeks spent in bed, months not being able to work etc etc I was told nothing can be found to be causing the issue, its just some inflimation with no cause, except opening shock and some super sensitive hips lol, so surely a bad ass opening shock would hurt ya hips ? or are my hips just that farked lol ?

the first video is some vid called "loser luke" and about some loser named luke, his the only d00d in it.
-
oh yeah I left 1 jump out they do a 20m static line into water, it looked like he could have landed safely even if there wasnt any water.
-
I only watched the first 1 from above. I find it hard to believe that thats really tom.
-
its on tape, although my computer has a capture card and a vcr sitting right next to it lol. But I don't own the rights to the film so I wont.

Hi, Just finished watching the vid several times lol was really good, I don't know if people unfamiliar with BASE would have got all the jokes on it though, they would probably have just thought ya's are crazy cow boys. for the people who haven't seen it i'll briefly describe it, sorry I can't remember the names, well I can but can't remember who done what. The vid went for about 5 minutes There is a part on safety and like 1 guy walks into a phone booth and packs his rig, he just rams the shoot into the container then walks off. then there is a bit about do ya trust the guy to pack ya rig, and like it shows a guy reaching into his packed rig and pulling out heaps of grass and leaves. another part a d00ds about to go off a bridge and the camera man says something like "hey d00d ya rig" and his like "oh yeah nearly forgot" and puts his rig on, then as his about to jump the camera man goes "hey ya leg straps". only thing about the vid I didn't like was when the d00d on the bike hits the ground hard, the sound he made sounded almost identical to the sound the guy in the dam strike video made, does every1 who F%*cks up and is still conscious make that sound ? no don't answer that I don't wanna know. also on the vid was the first part of the above mentioned which was a d00d who rode flat out on a (kinda reminded me of my GTA arm chair playstation BASE lol) push bike(camera was on his head) then he went off a cliff and (I've seen the cliff he jumped several times before and I know they don’t usually fall for to long, ) he seemed to fall for a fair bit, as it looked like he did a back flip on the bike and was kinda... stuck on the bike lol, as it looks like his about to hit his chute must deploy, (I don’t think it shown his chute deploy) and his on the ground making those noises lol. another part of the vid was 1 d00d jumping off what looked to be a terminal(or darn close) wall in France, his just about to hit the ground when his chute starts to deploy, his chute comes out of the rig, lines stretch but before it can inflate he seems to hit the ground, the last ya seen of the chute was when it was about the size of a brief case, no where near inflated. either he hit a very steep bit of ground or the canopy magically opened at the last nano second and aint on camera. the guy was interviewed and he said his injury, which I think was a torn calf muscle and a bruise and the doctors wouldn’t believe him when he told them how it happened. Also a guy on there swings out on this big rope, out over a cliff then lets go and deploys and his chute pretty much instantly comes out, even though he only fell about 5 feet, must have been the forward speed that his pilot chute ate. The rest of the show was slims vid, which most here would have seen, it won an award so did Stoopid BASE, and other stuff like the usual so called extreme sports, Skate boarding, wind surfing, motor bikes etc. No doubt stoopid base will be online s00n, if it isn’t already. If I left some parts out, they are there, I just forgot them lol.

Hi all, Got to work today and 1 of my co workers, who knows I usually spend lunch watching BASE vids on my comp handed me a video this morning. was taped off fox (australia) last night I think, its from some sports video competition 1 of the entrys is called "stupid base" or "silly base" or somthing like that, the other entry on it is the Slim tribute video "a base life" (which I've seen) I'm still at work so haven't watched it yet, so have others seen "stupid basE" (or similar name) ? its a aussie video. any good ? all aussie vids I have seen so far are great

I usually stay away from heavily moderated forums like this when I'm drunk lol. tell us about this jump please

haha cool lowest thing I jumped was off a crane. I mainly just kept going to the top of the mountain and seeing how far I could track. the furthest ya can make it offf the mountain is to the road, if ya clear the last step of the mountain ya pull almost straight away then ya about 60 feet up, turn and land. But what I wanna try next time I play it is launch off in the car or what ever, and once I exit the car track straight away then when at full speed, stop tracking for a split second, throw a 360 then track again and see if I can still clear the bottom step I'm very new to the game, is it all set in the 1 city or is there like different levels in the game where ya in diff citys with diff mountains etc ?
-
yeah but if he dont have a capture card in his computer he will either have to get 1 or put a link on a website saying "if anyone wants to see the video email me your address and ill post you a copy snail mail" which sounds quite easy except he might not have 2 VCR's so cant copy the tape . but yeah your idea was how I orginally thought it was done, but then a friend pointed out to me the blue lines on the video make it look like it was done with a cam.

do you do aerials tom ? (im guessing so) I don't think I've seen you jump is there any footage of you on skydivingmovies or anywhere ?
-
cool I see so there is no kinda rule the more experienced try and tell the less experienced ? also what does YMMV mean ?

Hi all, was just re-reading an article http://www.basejump.org/discus/articles/golong.html the bottom part stating ---------------------------------------------- "If you really want to do aerial maneuvers from below 1500’ then an absolute minimum prerequisite would be 200 freefall B.A.S.E. jumps with at least six months of solid platform diving or gymnastics training (with an accredited coach). It’s no good pulling off 10 perfect gainers in a row if your failure rate is 1 in 20. Dive training and gymnastics will help teach you the consistency needed to survive aerial maneuvers in B.A.S.E.. ------------------------------------ what is actually the norm in base these days ? I see some pretty dodgy flips (having never done a flip with a rig on my self), do most people actually do at least 200 BASE jumps first and do diving training with a coach ? its kinda obvious some jumpers have been coached. But I was wondering with more and more aerial base videos being made, are people starting to do say a simple front or back flip earlier then they should? or is every1 playing it safe and doing similar to the above article ? also another question. when training in a pool, do jumpers ever wear a rig ? obviously it would want to be a old 1 and maybe just stuffed with pillows or something, or is there not much difference doing it with a rig as to without ? thanx for helping my curiosity.

Kevin Decourcey is the name of the injured.

I'm not a base jumper except for on a video game . the answer you'll get though is "depends how high ya jump from" some terminal jumps open low like at 200 feet where as some low level jumps are made lower then 200 feet.

nah not yet sorry. -------------------------------------------------------- A BASE jumper was fighting for his life yesterday after bungling a leap off Sydney's Harbour Bridge in the dead of night. The illegal thrill-seeker strolled to the eastern side of the bridge and jumped, with a parachute, from the public walkway at 2.30am yesterday. But something went wrong as he plummeted about 70m to the water, seriously injuring himself. Police were unsure yesterday whether the 39-year-old's equipment failed and are waiting for his condition to improve before interviewing him. The man was found floating unconscious and was picked up by a boat cruising past. He was treated by paramedics on the boat, before being taken to Royal North Shore hospital suffering extensive injuries from the impact. He underwent surgery and was in a critical condition last night. It is the latest in a series of base jumps around Sydney that have concerned authorities. Motorists crossing the Cammeray Bridge at Northbridge were horrified to see a man climb on to the edge and hurl himself off, last week. A police spokesman said security guards patrolling the bridge at the time the man jumped were being interviewed last night. Police would not confirm if the man was jumping alone but said they were making enquiries about gathering CCTV footage from New South Wales Roads and Traffic Authority cameras installed on the bridge. ------------------------------------------------ will let ya know if I hear of a name basejump.org would probably be the best place to find out.

A MAN is clinging to life in hospital tonight after an apparent failed BASE jump from the Sydney Harbour Bridge. A 39-year-old man equipped with a parachute jumped from the public walkway on the eastern side of the bridge about 2.30am (AEST) today, police said. The injured man was treated in a boat by ambulance officers. He was taken to Royal North Shore Hospital with extensive injuries. He underwent emergency surgery and was in a critical condition, police said. "The circumstances surrounding the man's injuries are unclear and inquiries are under way by investigators by the Marine Area Command," they said. Police appealed for information about what they described as a "reported BASE jump". BASE is an acronym for the four main types of objects jumped from – buildings, antenna, spans and earth (cliffs). BASE jumping is illegal in Australia and has claimed several lives in recent years. lets hope he recovers. the walk way is 59m high, the top part is 134m if im correct.

hahah cool. I'm a better digital BASE jumper then this guy though, my tracking skills are way better oh yeah and I'm more extreme haha. that vid looks kinda like it was made by aiming a video camera at the screen pretty good quality though if thats how it was made. would be cool if the next GTA is in norway

My Digital BASE adventure. Sorry if this post is a little off topic, but hopefully someone will find this enjoyable to read. But tonight I was at my parent’s house and my younger brother was playing a game on his playstation 2. the latest GTA "grand theft auto" game asked him if its the game that I heard ya can go to the top of a building and grab a chute laying around and BASE off it. he then told me that you can jump off anything that’s high enough. So I stole the controller from his hands (hope he don’t grow up to be bigger then me) and had a quick play, drove to the top off this very tall mountain checked out the cliff's, most were very low (the vertical part), but the mountain had steep sides, so I jumped on a bike and went very fast off a jump that was coincidently aimed out over the side of the mountain. I rode it very fast hit the jump, launched out, then jumped off the bike, this was the first time I had done it, I jumped off the bike to soon and ended up facing back in towards the wall, there was an under hang (and I didn't know you could track, although I never had enough height or time to turn and track) so I didn't waste time turning around and deployed my shoot which resulted in a cliff strike which I found very amusing (game over, or at least 1 less credit life thing). So I decided to go back to the top of the mountain, this time I found it quicker to jump in a harrier jet, fly above the mountain and skydive down. Was very excited to find that I could track and all, how ever couldn’t do any flips but could do a basic 360. As I skydived to the top of the mountain I decided to see how low I could pull, my younger brother yelled, pull, pull now or it won’t open (he forgot I have 3 real jumps more experience them him haha). I pulled a little later and had a good 5 feet to spare lol (I was so like a kid with a new toy, only problem was this toy wasn’t mine). I looked over seen the bike (was only a push bike) ran over then jumped on it again. Rode it very fast and went off the jump again, I pressed the button that you do to get off the bike, and was in perfect position so started to track away from the mountain. I had thought it would be heaps cheesy and I would simply only be able to fall straight down and only for a second or 2. Turns out I found it to be very cool, as I was tracking I seen the ground where I thought id hit, then I seen that if I tracked far enough that bit of ground ended up stepping down again. The mountain had a lot of steps (if that’s what you would call them). Anyway I kept tracking and seen the last step and was wanting to clear it then deploy at the bottom of the mountain, I realized I wasn’t going to make it (very last second) so I just deployed, the chute seemed to have fully inflated but I still hit the ground to hard and got “Wasted”, that’s what it said on the screen lol. So anyway like the kid I was I went back to the top of the mountain picked up the rig again, except this time I knew I needed to get further away from the mountain, so I jumped in a bus LOL and drove it over the jump, I exited the bus and started to track, I cleared several steps then finally the last step, deployed, opened about 20 feet up, took 1 turn to the left, was very surprised to find you could even flare and flared and landed on the road. Laughed with excitement then came home. Don’t know if you guys have played this game before but if you have a playstation I’d recommend you get this game for the days where the weather won’t let you jump and you realize you have seen all you vidz a billion times and have nothing better to do. Hope someone here liked my digital adventure. I'd love it if a full dedicate BASE game came out, I'd buy a console just for it

Awesome video what actually causes such a violent off heading opening ?

the funny thing is not long back I remember a year where almost 1 rock fisherman a month was washed off rocks and dround, this went for quite a few months in a row. these were all australians and every1 had a big sea and air rescure out looking for them and/or there body and no one said anything bad against the sport, just spoke of how dangerous rock fishing was. how ever there has only ever been around 5 deaths in oz base and I think not all were australians, 2 facts though 1. majority of these deaths people would have known straight away where the body was, so no need for a search. and 2. if some1 really goes in hard there is no need for a rescue team to rush away from some other emergency and come and try and find the person then see if they are alive, as it would be pretty obvious (most of the time) if 1 is dead and a dead body dont complain much if ya arrive late. its not like a jumper is gunna get hung up on a underhang 2000 feet up after he jumped off a 3500 foot cliff in australia

hmmmmm My old man gets it , I'm not sure how often it comes out if its monthly then id say 3 months back as there is 2 on the kitchen cupboard that I think are newer.
-
I seen it But never taped it a lot of it was the usual old sensationalism of the couple the show was about, but more die hard (we base for fun not attention) basers were interviewd on there, there was some good footage of some well known aussie sites. Base has got some good press here lately, there was a real good dwain weston story in "Readers digest" a month or 2 back, took up about 5 pages, had pics of him as a kid and interviewd his mother etc.

Hi, thanx for the replys. I think my answer was missunderstood (or not asked correctly) what I meant by "can it open in under 100 feet" I didn't mean jump off somthing under 100 feet I asked this question with no object heigh in mind, it could be 2000 feet, I was just curious as to how soon on average a base chute would be fully inflated and flying
