  1. I didn't question anyone else's experience. Your comment doesn't explain why anyone should challenge mine. I'll take misdirection, smoke, and mirrors for $2000, Alex Owned by Remi #?
  2. Negative. I'm asking because I have the experience. Feel free to explain why you think otherwise. Owned by Remi #?
  3. Sure, why not? After all, the safety is engaged. According to your account, that renders the weapon useless and safe, right? After all... You can't have it both ways. In reality, I would never point a weapon at anyone without intent to kill regardless of the position of the safety. You're implying that a weapon with the safety engaged is harmless. My point is that if you're willing to stand by your words, you should be okay with having that weapon against your head, huh? Owned by Remi #?
  4. It's not a daft question at all. My point is that it's an unanswered question. If the pilot turns out to have been negligent, so be it. Let's wait until the facts are all on hand to throw his ass into the fire, shall we? Owned by Remi #?
  5. Yes, because it's an historical fact that a firearm's saftey has never, ever failed. I'm not claiming that the safety was on. I'm not claiming that the safety was off. I'm not informed and neither are you. Sadly, some people will always remain ignorant and insist on jumping to conclusions in the absense of evidence. Tell ya what. I have a handgun right here. How would you feel about letting me load it, point it at your head, and depress the trigger? I promise I'll have the safety on Edit to add: I started shooting when I was 6, was on a state champion rifle team when I was 12, and qualified as a sharpshooter with both th .45 and the M-16 in the military. You can trust me to know if the safety is on or off. Really. I promise. Just keep your chin up and close your eyes. You'll be fine. Owned by Remi #?
  6. Welcome to skydiving, Sub. If you're working on your A license, then you have instructors. They're the folks who can give you guidance on canopy / equipment choices with the most knowledge of your particular needs. Go ask them what they think you should look at. In the mean time, there are some nice references here: http://www.dropzone.com/safety/Gear_and_Equipment/index.shtml Owned by Remi #?
  7. Let's look at some of the questions and accusations being made on this thread: Q: Why was the weapon unstowed? A: The weapon was supposed to be unstowed. Q: Why was the weapon out of it's holster? A: The weapon was not out of its holster. Q: Why was the pilot's finger on the trigger? A: The pilot's finger was not on the trigger. Q: Why was the safety off? A: We don't know the position of the safety as a fact. I, for one, am willing to refrain from accusing the pilot of negligence in the absense of all the facts. A lot of mistakes and false accusations have already been made in this thread. Owned by Remi #?
  8. Press statement from this website attached. http://www.secure-skies.org/ The press release uses the words "the padlock depressed the trigger", which I think shifts too much of the blame away from the pilot since he was holding the padlock at the time, but it's not like he was waving an unholstered weapon around in the cockpit with his finger on the trigger, as some have implied here Owned by Remi #?
  9. What I've read indicates that the pilot hit the trigger with the padlock while the weapon was holstered. It seems that the TSA might require the pilot to unstow the weapon and restow it before leaving the flight deck. Owned by Remi #?
  10. I don't know how accurate this website is, but if it is accurate, maybe this pilot deserves a little slack. It's possible that he's being bashed by people without full knowledge of the procedures and what actually happened? http://www.crimefilenews.com/ Owned by Remi #?
  11. No, this isn't really the best place for such discussions. The people who post here are a small subset of the skydiving community who enjoy participating in Internet forums. Some of the people who post here are exactly what they appear to be or present themselves to be. Some of the people who post here misrepresent themselves. The best place for someone who has no experience and no knowledge base with which to help them try to determine who's posting valid information and who's blowing smoke is to go to the dropzone they are considering jumping at and talk to the instructors there. That way you're getting first hand information from a known good source. Owned by Remi #?
  12. Somewhere in these forums, Bill Booth lamented the fact that the freebag remains connected in most cases since it costs him money in freebag replacements. On my first skyhook cutaway, my freebag remained attached to my main. On my second, it disconnected but the freebag still landed about 50 yards from my main. Edit to add the quote from Bill Booth: Owned by Remi #?
  13. Well... someone would be waiting a hell of a long time then. The parachute wasn't unearthed by a plow and there's no indication it was in a field that was waiting to be plowed. It was unearthed while the property owner was grading for a road. Owned by Remi #?
  14. I've wondered the same thing about how carefully money is really checked. One thing to remember is that a $20.00 wasn't as far below the radar as it is now. It would have been more like a $100.00 back then. Owned by Remi #?
  15. Oh, I understand completely and I don't want or need your help, but thanks anyway. Here's a link to "The Story" interview mentioned earlier. There's another really good segment on women in the war on the second page. http://thestory.org/archive/?b_start:int=0 Owned by Remi #?
  16. I met Mia a couple of summers ago when visiting Nouvel Air. She was a charming, graceful, friendly, beautiful young woman who went out of her way to help a stranger feel at home. Peace to her friends and family. Owned by Remi #?

  19. This is pretty confusing. If that is the S/N and not the model number, wouldn't it be the S/N of the harness / container, not the S/N of the canopy? Owned by Remi #?
