  1. When I first started reading this thread I thought "Wow, Ron and PhillyKev are back" and then I realized it was 4+ years old. 600-800 feet seems to me to be a perfectly acceptible opening range. My Sabre2 170 takes 900 easily and my 150 takes about 600-700. Does anyone else think those are 'potentially dangerous"? I'm really happy with the slow openings. My 170 also has closed end cells almost every opening. Those don't bother me either. Pulling down on the rears pops 'em right out. Owned by Remi #?

  8. Thought I'd share :-) I got up this morning at about 6am. Put on a pot of coffee.... read some emails. Browsed dz.com.... Drank some coffee... took a shower.... walked my dog. Tried to eat the last banana I had left... too many brown mushy spots to make it edible.... dog wouldn't touch it. Trashed it. More coffee Went to work.... tried my best. Took off a little early to deal with problems with getting a title for a car I just bought. Got yelled at by a stressed out BMV employee for no obvious reason other than I didn't know where to go to get the actual title for the car. Decided to cut the guy some slack and not complain. He looked stressed. Went home and weeded a plot for a vegtable garden. Felt a little energetic and also got the soil turned and ready to plant. Took another shower. Poured a whiskey and soda. Browsed dz.com again. Yes folks, another depraved, immoral day in the life of a homosexual. This lifestyle is kicking my ass. Where the hell do I go to get converted? Owned by Remi #?
  9. What Lindsey said was that perception of morality wasn't absolute. How do you translate that into "you dont think that laws are founded on morality?" Owned by Remi #?
  10. I married an ass 25 years ago and no one objected. I sure wish that had been against the law. Owned by Remi #?
  11. Or drop your elbow and knee a little bit on the side you want to "slide" to. At least that's how I do it. Your opposite side reach might be more effective. To the OP, ask your instructors to show you how to side-slide. Owned by Remi #?

  13. Could we spice this up a bit? Anyone can pull low enough to qualify. Let's add crater depth... Tombstone example: Lifetime member of the low pull gang. At time of death, 2.5 meters deep without assistance Owned by Remi #?
  14. Ah, I didn't take your post as a "head bite" I realized in general that I was wrong about instructors being able to sign off the proficiency card for all license requirements, including jump numbers, and your post was clear about the mistake, that's all. I make the very inconcise mistake of thinking of myself as an "instructor" wrt skydiving because in my non-skydiving life I work as an instructor at a university. I have done for almost 20 years. In the skydiving world, I am a coach only. Not the same as an instructor and I am sorry for blurring the line in my posts. Owned by Remi #?
  15. As you move east, it gets a lot quieter. By the time you get to Ohio, it's almost silent. In New York State they can't even use audibles because you can't hear anything in freefall. In fact, if you jump in a far eastern country, you go deaf when you experience freefall. That's why so many Japanese tourists travel west to do tandems. Owned by Remi #?

  18. Sorry about that. I stand very corrected. Owned by Remi #?
  19. Instructors do not assign or approve licenses. They instruct and sign off proficiency requirements for licenses. Any one instructor could sign off every single item on an A license card but they can't approve the actual license. An instructor can't verify that "25 jumps" have been completed to the USPA's satisfaction. Owned by Remi #?
  20. Please explain why it matters. When I jump with a student, I sign their log book and make any comments I think will be helpful. What does that have do with whether or not the jump counts towards a license jump number requirement? I note whether or not they've met a proficiency requirement. Am I missing something here? 21. There's a great point. Note that they define the use of a parachute during all or part of a descent as a skydive. Pretty tough to get freefall if all of your skydive is under canopy. I agree with what others have said. The SIM days nothing about freefall defining a skydive and the A license requirement says 25 jumps, not 25 freefalls. But hey, once you have 2500 does any of that really matter? Owned by Remi #?
  22. Nope. The B license has a freefall time requirement (30 minutes). The A does not. The A does require at least 5 freefall group jumps of 2 or more, but it doesn't specify that all 25 jumps must include freefall. Owned by Remi #?
  23. That section requires that you log freefall time. It doesn't say anything about how long it needs to be or whether there has to be any freefall at all. Just that it be logged. Owned by Remi #?
  24. Well... I'm sticking with what the SIM does say. It says you must complete 25 jumps. It doesn't say you have to complete 25 self deployments or 25 freefalls. It says you have to complete 25 jumps. My home DZ is owned by a USPA national director and she counts any exit as a skydive. Maybe she's wrong Owned by Remi #?
  25. Wow, well.... that's a lot different than what I've been taught. Owned by Remi #?
