The DZ used to be the one place I could escape the "nanney state, big brother, we know what's best for you" attitude that has crept its way into every aspect of life. The times, they are a-changin'

Why do you need permission?
-
With a smaller suit I did it all the time. Now I mostly fly a big suit. Towed my PC in full flight a couple times. I don't do it anymore.
-
Your peers already jump!
-
I wonder how many people we could get for a gizmo-free load?
-
sadly, I do. There are lots of mandatory AAD DZ's , for example.

Not trying to impress anyone. Just made me laugh, and think weird thoughts in freefall

Did a solo wingsuit flight saturday. Discovered after takeoff that my Neptune battery was dead. Oh, well. I took it off and stuck it in my pocket. Then I jumped out the plane, just me and my nylon. And it was good! No helmet, no gadgets, no beepers, buzzers, dials, and no reserve-loop-cutter. I started laughing in mid flight, thinking about how many DZ's would ground me for this, and how many on this DZ would give me shit if they knew.

I'd go with the old school guy, but only if he brushed his teeth and showered first!

Of course 98% will out vote 2%, But it's much worse than that! I fear we've reached the tipping point where 51% are voting to seize the wealth and liberty of the other 49%. We've been warned about this since 1776.

"buzzing" open canopy's doesn't mean scaring the $#!+ out of the pilot/passenger. Maybe fly-by is a better word. Passing by 200' - 300' away doesn't add any extra danger. And besides, I put a smiley on that part. Anyways... at least do the have fun part. Stability is highly overrated.

don't focus on the recording gadgets. just fly. have fun. buzz some clouds. buzz a tandem. chase the plane. do some flips and rolls. fly inverted. fly head down, then flare as hard as you can. ...

Doe's anybody remember Bob Neely?
skydave114 replied to skydiver_33460's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I remember him best for his "instant downplane" stunt. He tried to get me to try it, but I always declined. It's a Mr. Bill, where "Bill" deploys, still hanging on. He once got restricted to "work jumps only" for doing it, so some of us would "hire" him sometimes for "no fun jumps" -
Abuquerque Balloon Festival 2010
skydave114 replied to castrodavidd's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
agree. don't bother. I've tried twice @ local balloon fests. most common answer is "no way" last time one guy tried to run me off the field. -
I wish I could do that, but we adhere to the faa mandated minimum cloud clearance at all times.

Why Do You Skydive? (Psychology)
skydave114 replied to DHolland's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
"And most importantly, its a lot of fun." what he said -
Quote this thing should get me into the mid-low 20's at will. next time we get a nor'easter, we're taking Lurch to the beach and flying him like a kite.

ding ding ding we have a winner! Some of us met with our regional director sat. to discuss this issue. I got the impression that the instructor rating is unlikely to be adopted. More likely that the current jump # recommendations could be BSR's, and/or be converted to C / D license.
-
No. Experienced jumper learning a new trick vs. 1st timer? more like apples & orangutans.
-
do you want a third party telling you that you can't get on?
-
apples & oranges, Scotty. The FAA regulates pilots. uspa regulates skydivers. like I said earlier, I think we are already over regulated.
-
back to the question at hand; do we need a uspa wingsuit instructor rating? it's a fair question, and one that deserves debate. I vote hell no. such a thing will only increase cost, and restrict access. will a wingsuit license, with another tax, be required next? imo, the proper regulating authority for such things is the dzo / s&ta.

Putting all the blame on the instructors is unfair. Both these young men knew they were violating the established recommendations, and sought out "instructors" who didn't care. Who is responsible for your skydive?
